The second series has really hit its stride as Peter ends up in hospital after a gardening accident. Alun Armstrong plays a fellow patient also waiting to be seen to. He tells Peter he is about to get rigor mortis as he has been waiting for so long.
It is nice to know that jokes on the state of the NHS go back as far as the creation of the NHS.
Maggie Jones, better known as Blanche in Coronation Street is the stern matron trying to get Peter to swallow his pills and then tries to take him to the bathroom.
Richard Wilson plays the doctor who is more interested in gardening and is an effective contrast to the matron.
Some good laughs here as Peter tries to give Alun a cigarette and then later tries to adjust his bed. As I remarked on the previous episode, there is more of an emphasis on physical comedy in the second series.
