In theory, an anthology horror film should be a great way for some filmmakers to put together a half-decent horror movie. As the V/H/S films (and, to a lesser degree, The ABCs of Death) have indicated, if you have a few dedicated squads of filmmakers (and some decent story ideas, of course) you can sew some short videos together with a simple framing story, and voila, you have a solid horror film. Or at least an amusing one.
But what happens when people with very few ideas (and even fewer filmmaking skills) try the same formula? The result is something like Locker 13, a broad, obvious, and consistently tiresome collection of "campfire tales" that are about as scary as a half-eaten donut. Given the final product's drearily predictable format, its 20+ producers, and its handful of familiar character actors in very small roles, it seems like Locker 13 was...

Locker 13 is a horror/thriller anthology, a collection of five cautionary tales about making the right choice. The wraparound story, The Other Side, stars Jon Gries as Archie. Archie is introducing Skip (played by voice actor Jason Spisak) to the night shift at a western theme park. As they tour the park Gries tells all these tales to Skip. They are meant to serve as cautionary tales, tales about making the right choices. Before Skip takes over the night shift he is warned not to tough locker number 13 in the employee change room. In each story locker 13 is the common point which draws them all together. The anthology itself ends with Skip's story, as curiosity overwhelms him and he looks into the locker and...

Horror anthologies aren't easy to pull off, given the difficulty maintaining quality throughout. This is especially the case with Locker 13, where the linking element isn't even consistent from vignette to vignette.
It's a breakroom locker in the principal story, involving an ex-con janitor at a Wild West theme park and his existential philosopher supervisor (I had to check if Wes Anderson had a story credit).
In "Down and Out," starring a dishearteningly craggy Rick Schroder as a boxer with only dementia pugilistica to look forward to, it's a gym locker. True, all are designated by the number 13, but unless I missed the interstitials where the sinister storage compartment winged through space-time like a hinged Loc-Nar, that's like making each character in each...

In anticipation of the upcoming release of Hellhounds on DVD (February 16th), we thought it might be interesting to talk with child actor-turned-director Rick Schroder. With Hellhounds, Schroder is a far cry from his days on the set of “Silver Spoons” or even “NYPD Blue.”
Schroder is taking genre fans to the underworld in an epic journey of a young Greek warrior who must rescue his love from the murderous grips of Hades.
Below, Schroder talks about Hellhounds, what film made him want to be an actor, and his upcoming projects, including Locker 13, an anthology film comprised of six vignettes that are connected by a mysterious Locker 13.
Heather Wixson: How did you get involved with the Hellhounds project?
Rick Schroder: I knew the producers since 1988. I worked for them on the western Lonesome Dove. I had just finished making the TV version of “Journey to the Center of the Earth...

Last seen getting blinded on the Fox Network's "24", journeying to the center of the earth on the Hallmark Channel, and battling the Andromeda Strain on A&E, Rick Schroder is now taking his silver spoons over to the Sci-Fi Channel to direct Hellhounds.
Set in 500 B.C., Hellhounds tells the tale of Kleitos, a Greek warrior who leads his companions on a mission to rescue his bride Hades and bring her back to life. Standing in their way are the guardians of the underworld, the hellhounds.
Shooting begins on Sunday in Romania on the film written by Paul A. Birkett (Escape Velocity, Crash Landing) with Schroder in the director's chair and Scott Elrod of the recently cancelled "Men in Trees" in the lead role.
Schroder is no novice behind the camera having made his directorial debut with the Native America boxing drama Black Cloud and is currently slated as one...
