Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV co-directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz have denied Marc Summers’ claim that he was “ambushed” into appearing on the Investigation Discovery docuseries.
“We are clear with each participant about the nature of our projects,” the helmers said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
Their response comes shortly after the former Double Dare host appeared on The Elvis Duran Show, where he alleged that the directors did not disclose the nature of the feature, which launched March 17 and 18 to big viewership, when asking him to appear.
“I got called by these folks saying they wanted to do a documentary on Nickelodeon and so I said sure,” he explained.

It’s been 20 years since Jeff Wadlow began his career in the entertainment industry, and he’s since created a name for himself as a highly reliable Swiss army knife. He can write, direct and produce across film and television, and he also has the added reputation of being an “idea guy.” When his career was at a crossroads in the early 2010s, he wrote his way out of it and sold spec scripts for what would become Kick-Ass 2 (2013) and Bloodshot (2020). And throughout the 2010s, whenever his next movie needed a bit of time to get off the ground, he’d put on his writer hat and join Carlton Cuse’s writers’ rooms for Bates Motel and The Strain.

A trailer has dropped for the forthcoming festival darling feature ‘Wild Fire’, writer/director Jennifer Cooney’s scintillating directorial debut.
The story centres around seven acquaintances who get radically honest about their lives one night around a fire after a party. Unknowingly, they all come to the gathering at a crossroads—one they each have been avoiding for their entire lives. After an unyielding game of Truth or Dare, the exemplary couple opens up about what they’re going through—that they’re not as perfect as they seem. This sets the stage for the rest of the group to open up about their lives, unspoken desires…and secrets. Each couple must choose a path the following morning back in their bedrooms. Will they integrate their newly exposed truths…or act as if nothing has changed?
Directed by Cooney, the cast includes Celeste Marcone, Madeleine Dee, Jillian Geurts, Siena D’Addario,...

Netflix unveiled its first look at the highly anticipated second season of “Heartstopper,” the swoon-worthy high school coming-of-age romance that tracks the budding relationship between Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).

To even comment on the Dare, the provoca-pop project of 27-year-old private-school substitute teacher turned downtown NYC enfant celebre Harrison Patrick Smith, is to have lost the game. The Dare, which released its debut EP last week, feels like a musical pseudo-event, existing only for the purpose of feeding its perpetual-motion publicity machine. Listening to The Sex EP doesn’t do much to ease the feeling that the songs are only tangential to Smith’s nascent project’s overall point.

I love horror anthology movies ... at least in theory. I really love the idea of an anthology — a series of short films tied together in one neat package. But the truth is, there are more bad horror anthologies than good. Even the best of the best almost always have at least one segment worth skipping. The "V/H/S" franchise might be the worst offender — there are five films in the series so far, and I can count the number of good segments on one hand. The best of the best is, without question, Timo Tjahjanto and Gareth Evans' "Safe Haven" from "V/H/S/2," a brilliantly-conceived and genuinely scary story about a death cult. But nothing else in the series has ever come close to that tale.
In fact, I've found the series so miss-heavy that I kind of gave up on it. And then came "V/H/S/94," which ended up being my favorite in the entire franchise.

‘American Horror Stories’ offers its unique take on a classic trope, but thin characters and predictable plotting result in a shattered episode.
“You light a candle in a room and then you say her name three times…”
There’s a natural shorthand that exists with creepy characters like Bloody Mary that have become omnipresent in pop culture. Not only are most American Horror Story audiences aware of Bloody Mary’s urban legend, but there’s been a demand to see her worked into the series for some time now. The twisted “monkey’s paw” logic that accompanies Bloody Mary and similar specters is ripe material for the horror genre to explore and low-rent Blumhouse material like Wish Upon or Truth or Dare (or Shudder’s Kandisha) do exactly that. American Horror Stories finally finds a suitable story to explore this staple, but “Bloody Mary” is arguably the weakest application of this premise.

If we have learned anything from movies of recent years, it is that moving into one’s dream house will surely lead to terror and death. That improbable yet familiar arc is traced again in “Intrusion,” wherein the domesticity under threat belongs to a wide-eyed Freida Pinto. Director Adam Salky and writer Christopher Sparling’s thriller will provide uninspired if serviceable fodder for subscribers when it launches on that platform Sept. 22.
The Parsons have just moved from Boston into a luxe, secluded New Mexico home that Henry (Logan Marshall-Green) designed, in part to provide him and Meera (Pinto) a fresh start after her difficult recovery from breast cancer. After dining out one night, they return to discover the place has been ransacked, though the intruders took nothing apart from a laptop and two cellphones. An alarm system is hastily installed — yet there’s another break-in, this one while the couple are asleep in bed.

“We’re friends, yeah?” Sydney Zaruba asks Gary King in this exclusive sneak peek at tonight’s episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht (airing at 9/8c on Bravo). After their one-night stand in last week’s episode, it’s safe to say these seaside teammates no longer share a strictly professional relationship.
In the preview, Gary tries to go to bed but Sydney continues flirting and climbs into his bunker. Though Gary deflects (“You think this is gonna become a f–king sex cabin?” he jokes) and says he’s trying to get Sydney to leave, he ends up climbing into bed with her.

The late-summer reactivation of the film festival circuit presented fest directors and programmers with an array of challenges, both expansive and restrictive. On the one hand, they’ve had a bounty of withheld titles to choose from; on the other, the industry stasis of the past six months has put any number of previously expected projects indefinitely out of reach.
2020’s London Film Festival, in particular, has felt the domino effect of the year’s other cancelled and compromised events.
A predominantly public-oriented affair, the Lff has always placed less stress on major world premieres — though organizers often manage to secure a heavyweight or two — than on cherry-picking the best the year’s other festivals had to offer, and bringing those highlights to British audiences for the first time. What happens to a festival of festivals, then, when the fests haven’t come through?

Adult Swim’s “Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal,” FX’s “Archer” and NBC’s “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” are among this year’s first batch of Emmy victors, as the Television Academy announced juried award winners on Tuesday.
The juried categories included nods for choreography, interactive programming and motion design, which will be handed out on Thursday, Sept. 17, during the fourth night of the 2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
Juried categories don’t include nominations, but instead all entrants are screened by a panel of professionals in the appropriate peer group. Winners are determined by a one-step evaluation — which include an open-discussion deliveration of each entrant’s work — followed by a “thorough review of the merits of awarding the Emmy.”
Among this year’s juried Emmy award winners, choreographer Mandy Moore won outstanding choreography for scripted programming, for “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.” It’s Moore’s third Emmy.

TV academy voters are faced with a daunting task when they fill out their 2020 Emmy Awards nominations ballot, They have to consider 199 shows for Best Drama Series, which is 35 more than last year. At least they no longer have to winnow their choices down to just 10 favorites. As with last year, they are being told to “Vote for as many achievements in this category that you have seen and feel are worthy of a nomination.”
This year’s Emmys are guaranteed to have a new winner for Best Drama Series with reigning four-time champ “Game of Thrones” no longer on the air. Of its unlucky seven rivals last year, six of them –“Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark,” “Pose,” “Succession” and “This Is Us” — are back on the ballot. The seventh, “Bodyguard,” did not air any new episodes during the eligibility period from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020.

Netflix seems to have found its niche. In the films department, the streamer has invested heavily of late in prestige content from some of Hollywood’s most respected minds, resulting in awards-friendly (if not award-winning) output like Marriage Story, The Irishman and The Two Popes.
The TV department has different priorities. Bingeable true crime documentaries and soapy dramas fill the site’s television slate, driving clicks and social media conversation often with markedly less investment. Think Locke & Key, Riverdale, You.
Dare Me is the quintessential new addition to that latter group. A ten-part series which first aired in the States on the USA Network late last year, joining Netflix internationally March 20, the show is a claustrophobic and occasionally bloody look at the always-competitive dynamic of high school teens. Cutthroat is the key word. Spoken in ominous voiceover, the show’s first line – “There’s something dangerous about the boredom of...

Sony, Columbia, and Blumhouse’s star-studded reimagining of Fantasy Island has officially been rated PG-13 for “violence, terror, drug content, suggestive material, and brief strong language.”
The horror pic, itself billed as a darker reinvention of the classic TV show, stars Michael Rooker, Charlotte McKinney, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Austin Stowell and Lucy Hale, the latter of whom reunites with Truth and Dare director Jeff Wadlow.
But Wadlow’s latest is more concerned with dumping its lead stars into a Fyre Festival-like scenario, one which soon devolves into a waking nightmare. So when the Enigmatic Mr. Roarke (played here by Michael Peña) extends an invitation to Fantasy Island, perhaps it’s best to politely decline…
However, this being a Blumhouse-produced horror joint, it isn’t long before Lucy Hale et al. are caught up in a whirlwind of mystery and genuine terror, and the above trailer is a testimony to the surprises in store.

How close is too close for a coach and her students?
That's a central question throughout Dare Me Season 1 Episode 3, as Colette gets closer and closer to Addy and also endears herself to the rest of the squad after a rager at her home.
Well, she endeared herself to everyone but Beth, who still isn't buying what Colette is selling.
Addy is a teenager, and thus she's impressionable, and to her, Colette is unlike anyone else she has in her life.
To her, it feels like Colette sees her and appreciates her. She's more than just Beth's sidekick when she's hanging at Colette's house. And it feels her with a sense of importance.
You could argue that part of the reason Colette is so eager to be Addy's buddy is that she needs her to keep quiet about Will, but she also seems to like Addy.
But their relationship is starting to getting blurry.

Sony’s sequel Jumanji: The Next Level is looking to file a $40M+ opening when the PG-13 family pic hits theaters on Dec. 13. Moviegoing typically doesn’t explode until after Christmas Day, which falls on a Wednesday this year; the Star Wars pics being the exception to that marketplace rule. Hence, the projections this morning might appear a little damp.
