Idris Elba is poised to fight for survival against a ravenous lion when Beast roars into theaters this weekend. Joanna Lumley, the Paddington 2 actress and BAFTA Film Awards host, is to embark on her latest adventure for ITV — this time seeking to get under the skin of the Caribbean.
ITV has commissioned Burning Bright Productions to make two-part Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean: Havana To Haiti, in which she will aim to showcase the history and secrets of different Caribbean islands on a 1,500-mile trip.
The miniseries will air in spring next year and follows similar documentaries Lumley has made for ITV with Burning Bright, including Joanna Lumley’s India and her Trans-Siberian Adventure.
Clive Tulloh is the executive producer, while ITV factual controller Jo Clinton-Davis commissioned the series. Ewen Thomson is the director.
“Joanna’s enthusiasm for and curiosity about the countries and cultures she explores always adds a layer of interest and excitement for viewers,” Clinton-Davis said.

When “Crawl” opens in theaters this week, Alexandre Aja’s latest film promises to do for alligators what other offbeat horror movies have done for such wacky villains as tires, worms, and tigers. While the monster movie subgenre has long enjoyed scaring up audiences with traditional baddies like zombies, werewolves, vampires, even alien beings and large-scale kaiju, it’s also played home to a number of films that capture the terror of some unexpected evildoers.
From hurricane-crazed gators in “Crawl” to a strikingly similar hurricane-crazed tiger in “Burning Bright,” giant worms in “Tremors” to a giant formaldehyde-fed sewer monster in “The Host,” and even man-made freaks in “The Fly” and “Splice,” monsters don’t only spring from the ill-fated Dark Universe or the wide world of Godzilla and King Kong.
Sometimes, they’re swimming in your flooded house, popping out of your desert dirt, and even rolling along the highway on rubber edges.

This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This feature contains broad spoilers for several horror movies featuring cats, including Alien, Cat People, Drag Me To Hell, Fallen, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Pet Sematary and The Voices.
The relationship between humans and cats over time has given way to a number of cultural impressions and outright superstitions. Ancient Egyptians associated them with gods. In the Middle Ages, they were linked with witches and killed en masse, which probably hastened the spread of the Black Plague through the rodent population. And in the modern day, it's interchangeably lucky or not if a black cat crosses your path.
Like anything with such a wide array of symbolic links, movies have presented cats as characters in different ways over the years. It's their abiding...

Director Ron Bonk, who has been in the B-Movie business since 1992 and was responsible for distributing some of St. Louis’ own Eric Stanze’s work onto VHS, is trying to get some money together to make an homage to Jaws called House Shark. Not to crib from the campaign of Pieces but, it’s exactly what you think it is. Sure, Burning Bright had a family trapped in a house with a tiger (Awesome flick, if you haven’t seen it) and even Bait, starring You’re Next’s Sharni Vinson, where people are trapped in a supermarket with a shark. House Shark is something entirely different. Instead of taking it seriously like the two previous movies I’ve mentioned, this one is going straight for the absurdity. Hear his pitch below:
Bonk has an IndieGoGo campaign where he is trying to raise $15,000 to get this film made, with a...

Despite being a hit with the critics, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 was less so with audiences, pulling in a franchise-low of $102 million during its opening weekend, according to official figures.
Relative to the series’ trailblazing success, analysts deemed the film’s opening performance to be a disappointment, with Mockingjay – Part 2 now standing as the lowest-ranking installment of all four films based on its opening box office weekend.
For the sake of perspective, Catching Fire holds the crown for the highest opening in the series, reaching $158 million in 2013, closely followed by the original Hunger Games at $152 million. As such, considering that Mockingjay – Part 1 clocked in with $121 million after its first weekend, it would appear that interest in the dystopian Ya series began to wane as it neared its two-part finale. Burning bright before fading away.

When Life of Pi released in theaters, I wasn’t exactly sure how to feel. I read the book back when it first released on the suggestion of my English teacher. Yes, I was that kind of student. Visionary director Ang Lee crosses over into the digital world of 3D with his Oscar-nominated film Life of Pi. The film, which has been celebrated by many, might just be one of the best-looking 3D films ever made, but does it have what it takes to stretch beyond being just a visual spectacle, much like Fox’s previous box office success Avatar? No. Lee’s attempted inspirational tale between a boy and a tiger lost at sea unfortunately collapses on itself early on and never washes ashore to safety. Life of Pi is a special effects achievement without a doubt, but it’s far from a masterpiece.
Pi (Suraj Sharma/Irrfan Khan) is an upbeat and courageous young man that embraces every religion with a smile on his face. His life is presented through two lenses, both as an adult and a young boy. Clearly, his younger self is full of hope and adventure,...

Fox has announced Ang Lee’s latest visual masterpiece Life of Pi for 2D and 3D Blu-Ray combo packs in March. The film stars Suraj Sharma and Irrfan Khan.
Ang Lee is without a doubt one hell of a visual director. His stories range depending on the film, but he almost always knocks it out of the park from a visual standpoint. Life of Pi is his first foray into the 3D world and the result is nothing short of spectacular. I didn’t care so much for the film’s story or characters, but looking at it through 3D glasses was perhaps one of the biggest theatrical highlights of 2012 for me. I was beyond wowed by how he presented the story of a boy and his tiger stranded on a boat.

While down at Fantastic Fest, ShockTillYouDrop.com had the privilege of catching up with the legendary Martin Landau who lends his vocal talents to this week's release Frankenweenie as Mr. Rzykruski.
You may recall, Landau previously worked with the film's director, Tim Burton, on Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow.
Shock also spoke with Frankenweenie's Charlie Tahan who plays Victor Frankenstein. Tahan's genre roots can be traced back to the tiger-in-a-house thriller Burning Bright.

To round out our first week of Movie of the Day I thought I’d start another trend for the feature. If Monday’s are to be “New Movie Monday” then Friday’s are reserved for the “Friday Night Fear Flick”. This weeks is the fantastic Burning Bright.
When 20 year old Kelly wakes late at night during a hurricane, she finds a hungry tiger stalking her through the halls of her home. With every door and window boarded up from the outside and her stepfather nowhere to be found, Kelly fights frantically to stay one step ahead of the killer beast while dragging her autistic brother Tom through the house, but with every turn the situation becomes more complicated and desperate.
Burning Bright is one of those films whose concept sounds so amazing that it has to qualify as a must-see movie, and luckily it doesn’t disappoint. The film starts off innocently enough,...

As far as ludicrous movie pitches go, the "'Speed' with a piano' logline for "Grand Piano" is up there with "Snakes On A Plane" and "Burning Bright" (don't remember "Burning Bright?" That was the one where the girl from "Step Up 2" and her autistic brother are trapped in their house by a hurricane, only to be stalked by an escaped tiger. Seriously). The film, announced a week or two back, is set to star Elijah Wood as a concert pianist with stagefright forced to play the concert of his life in order to save his life, and his wife, after finding a threat on his sheet music. Again, we're not making this up.
It comes from producer Rodrigo Cortes, who's an old hand at confined-space thrillers after directing "Buried," and the evidence continues to rack up that it's an actual, genuine movie, as another name star is in discussions to join the project,...

Following on from the trailer that arrived online last week a new still has come to light from Eduardo Rodriguez's home invasion thriller 'Stash House'. The new pic features the shifty looking pair of Dolph Lundgren and John Huertas. The thuggish duo wreak havoc on their new neighbours Briana Evigan ('Sorority Row', 'Mother's Day') and Sean Faris ('Never Back Down') as they try to get into the house for its secret stashes. Rodriguez directs from a script by Gary Spinelli. The sexy Evigan really doesn't have much luck when it comes to home invasions. What with tiger invasion in 'Burning Bright' and psychotic Milf invasion in 'Mother's Day' you'd have thought she might have learnt her lesson by now. Anyhoo check out the new still below....

Step Up 2, Burning Bright and Sorority Row star Briana Evigan is the latest big name to join the now-filming The Devil's Carnival, the latest genre offering from Repo! The Genetic Opera, Saw II-IV, Mother's Day and The Barrens director Darren Lynn Bousman. Evigan also starred in Bousman's episode of "Fear Itself" entitled" New Year's Day". She joins Taryn Manning and horror icon Bill Moseley, who can also be seen in Bousman's Repo! The Genetic Opera, as well as horror classics Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Army of Darkness House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. The Devil's Carnival is a 45-minute experimental short about a carnival run by the devil. There will be singing and dancing, much like Bousman's Repo!. The genre mash-up was teased the other week with a new website alongside a lengthy video.

Director: Carlos Brooks.
Writers: Christine Coyle Johnson, Julie Prendiville Roux, and David Higgins.
Burning Bright was loosely created from William Blake's 18th Century poem called "The Tyger," which begins " Tyger! Tyger! burning bright/ In the forests of the night,/ What immortal hand or eye/ Could frame thy fearful symmetry?" Just as symmetrical is Briana Evigan as Kelly who tries to survive a night with a tiger on the loose. If that was enough, then a hurricane brings further terror in this exciting but repetitive popcorn flick from Lionsgate (2010).
Kelly has just lost her mother to a suspicious suicide and now she must help with her brother Tom (Charlie Tahan) who is autistic. Kelly must also deal with a greedy and manipulative stepfather who already has a series of plans for his ex-wife's inheritance. Strange how his plans go into effect right after her death with no period of grief.

The gorgeous Briana Evigan (below) just cannot help herself. She seems to be popping up in horrors and thrillers at every turn. Already with sub-par 'Donnie Darko' sci-fi sequel 'S. Darko', slash-happy remake 'Sorority Row', hungry tiger tale 'Burning Bright' and home invasion set-piece 'Mother's Day' already under her heaving horror belt the girl already has another trio of thrillers set up including 'Rites of Passage', 'Stash House' and Richard Gray's 'Mine Games'. The latter is Aussie helmer Gray's new time travelling thriller which will also star Ethan Peck, Joseph Cross, Alex Meraz, Rafi Gavron, Rebecca Da Costa and yet another smoking hot addition, Julianna Guill. Director: Carlos Brooks. Review: Adam Wing. It was my girlfriend who explained to me why Carlos Brooks' debut feature is called Burning Bright, apparently it’s a reference to a William Blake poem published in 1794. Glad we cleared that one up. The concept is nothing if not unique, a young girl (Briana Evigan) is trapped inside a house with her autistic brother during a hurricane while being menaced by a man-eating tiger. You read that right, a man-eating tiger. It might read ridiculous on paper but it works, probably because Burning Bright introduces the scariest tiger since Tony started enticing small children with his sugar coated cornflakes. As with all good horror movies, you also need a strong female lead and Briana Evigan (Sorority Row) more than makes up for her annoying little brother. It feels wrong to insult a child actor portraying an autistic boy, but even older...

Before there was such horror spoofs as Scary Movie starring Anna Faris. Before there was such self referential horror films such as Scream from director Wes Craven. After there was Student Bodies. There was Rolfe Kanefsky's independent horror spoof of "There's Nothing Out There". There's Nothing Out There arrives to DVD today in a 20th Anniversary Edition courtesy of Troma Team Video. There's Nothing Out There went virtually ignored when it first came out, but over the years this trend setting film has went on to find an audience with multiple DVD and video releases over the years. There's Nothing Out There is a criminally underrated film that is still attracting a slow, but surely following. What was especially noteworthy about There's Nothing Out There was the fact that it featured a character who had seen every horror film there was out there and realizes that the actions that...

Well 2010 is almost over and it’s time for my obligatory Top Ten of the year. As with last year I’ll be compiling two movie Top 10’s – one cinematic releases and one direct to DVD list. Why? Well the majority of movie sites and blogs give credence to all the big releases of the year but, as I try to do all year, I want to highlight some films which you might have missed that you really should hunt down and watch.
This list is completely subjective, and you may not agree with any or all of my choices or the order in which they appear. Either way I’d love to read your thoughts on my choices good or bad, so don’t forget to leave a comment. Anyway, onto the list:
10) Hunt to Kill
Jim Rhodes (“Stone Cold” Steve Austin) is one bad ass Border Patrol Agent.
