Dead Love is new unorthodox love story from writer and director Chris Gallagher, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask Chris a few questions about making the film, working with Lloyd Kaufman and the seminal casting of Emily Booth whilst writing the script.
What can we expect from the film Dead Love?
Talking tables, cannibals, exploding hearts, an awesome soundtrack and many scenes of murder-sex (a term the actors coined on set). It’s essentially a love story concerning a man named Allan, a woman called Anne and a sentient piece of furniture! We’ve got all bases covered – if you want gore, we have scenes where some cast & crew had to watch through their hands. There’s a bit of comedy (hopefully) and underpinning that is the tale of two mismatched people finding love in an unlikely situation.

As Deliver Us From Evil lands on disc in the UK, we look back at key lessons the movies teach us about possession...
The idea of demonic possession goes back thousands of years, to before we had film. Most religions carry their own interpretation of what it means for a person to be 'possessed' by a demon or a spirit and it's a complicated, arcane subject shrouded in mystery and ritual.
The Sumerians, thousands of years before Christ, believed all diseases were caused by 'sickness demons' and had their sorcerers attempt early exorcisms as cures. The Quran talks extensively of Jinn (demons) that can drive people to insanity and may only be expelled via worship. In the Bible, Satan and his demons are very much at large using human beings as vessels for devilish deeds. Jesus casts a whole bunch of them out before he's accused of being demon-possessed himself...

Once upon a time (read: the '80s), movie fans could count on the fact that at some point, someone in the movie would randomly drop trou or rip off their shirt for no apparent reason whatsoever. And frankly, it was great. After all, why worry about things like plot or character development when you can have some good old-fashioned gratuitous nudity instead?
Nowadays, of course, such moments are rare, usually happening only for comic relief or in grade-z, video on demand dreck. Thanks to Internet porn, there's kind of no reason for movies to bother, right?
Once in a while, though, there's still a shining light — or shining headlights, if you will — such as Rosario Dawson's turn in the new Danny Boyle thriller "Trance," which already has people buzzing and whipping out their iPhones to grab a quick screenshot. So with that in mind, we...

Michael Hoffman is a bright up and coming presence in the horror community who directs amusing homages in the horror genre. He is also heading a DVD distribution label that has plans to make President's Day its first release. However, he also has plans to release some of the lesser known titles of the genre along with some camp classics. His most well known title to date is Spring Break Massacre starring Reggie Bannister and Linnea Quigley in their only on screen role to date. Rumors are running rampant that there will either be a sequel to this film or a remake to it with Hoffman behind the director's chair yet again. Here's what he had to say about his career to date:
So you've been directing entertaining homages to the horror genre for the past 9 years, what made you want to get into directing?
You know, I'm not really sure.

Bobbie Weiner, Aka Bloody Mary, is an FX artist with her own line of specialty makeup for literally any kind of transformation. If you're wondering where you might have seen her work, try the Oscar-nominated romace-catastrophe flick Titanic; she was the special effects make-up artist who transformed hundreds of actors into blue-lipped, icicle covered corpses. She also was in charge of the makeup for the horror films Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings and Voodoo.
Bobbie's got a whole lineup of her own FX supplies and original makeup; scary stuff, of course, but also any kind of makeup anyone might need. And you can read the comic she created, Tales of Bloody Mary, in any comic book store. Bobbie shares her recent work with Pretty/Scary's staffer Andrew Shearer...

The minute I got the go ahead for this blog, I e-mailed Victor Bonacore hoping to score a sit down. After meeting at the La Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in early 2008, I had quickly become a fan of his short films, and I wasn’t the only one. Not only has Bonacore won praise from numerous critics for his shorts Pretty and Eat Me (which have found distribution in the UK), they have been screened at festivals around the world. Most recently, his music video for Johnnie Lee Jordan’s The Wigly premiered, garnering early raves for his unique take on the love song. Infusing his work with a rare blend of horror and romanticism, and recently founding the production company ChainsawKiss, Bonacore is determined to expand his work. And with 2009 seeing the completion of no less then three shorts, he is truly a talent to look out for.
