The 9 character all numeric VIN on the pickup is totally incorrect. Modern vehicles use a 17 character VIN that has numbers and letters. The plates are riveted onto vehicles, not screwed on as shown. The closeup shot was that of a prop dashboard constructed for this shot.
Contrary to what was shown here and in many Lifetime type films, if brake lines are cut or tampered with, the driver finds out about it as soon as they step on the brake pedal. In this case, it would be at the end of the driveway slowing for the gate. As such, the crash could not have happened as shown, which leads to a second plot hole of the Hollywood (Vancouver?) exploding vehicle. A motor vehicle involved in the crash shown would not explode.
Teresa says it is illegal to check a VIN for ownership. Vehicle registrations are public record and can be accessed by anyone, usually for a fee. Various professional firms buy subscriptions to this information, to include lawyers such as her former boss, which explains why she had the software to check it immediately.
The VIN on the pickup is shown as 555 40 9090. When Nicholas reads it to Teresa, he gets the third character wrong, reading 558 40 9090.
The Seattle detective tells Nicholas there is nothing he can do. Richard gave him cause to at the very least investigate driver license fraud, as Francis had obtained licenses in different identities.
