Exclusive: James Badge Dale will be joining Cate Blanchett in writer-director David Mamet‘s thriller Blackbird. Dale plays a military major who is trying to discover the truth about the political secrets of a woman’s grandfather who worked for the U.S. special ops during the 1960s. Currently, Dale is performing in the off-Broadway play Small Engine Repair and recently completed filming three pictures: Universal’s Stretch directed by Joe Carnahan (they previously teamed on The Grey), Miss Meadows opposite Katie Holmes, and the Civil War drama Relative Stranger. James Badge Dale is one of Hollywood’s hardest working actors right now, starring in three of this year’s biggest films already – “Iron Man 3“, “World War Z” and “The Lone Ranger“. It’s definitely time that the American actor got his big break and a lead role, and maybe an indie drama can help him [...]

A reminder for B… As part of MoMA’s Charles Burnett retrospective that began last week, today, at 4:30Pm titled Charles Burnett: The Power To Endure, you can watch a program of short films by Charles Burnett when they screen tonight at MoMA – films that I doubt most of us have seen! These are films he made between 1969 and 2007, since his student days through the recent past. So, consider it a treat!
Titles, years and running times include: Several Friends, 1969, 21 min; The Horse, 1973, 14 min; When It Rains, 1995. 13 min; Olivia’s Story, 2000. 14 min; and Quiet As Kept, 2007. 6 min.
That should be interesting viewing, and I’m looking forward it!
And keep in mind that the retrospective runs through April 25th, with practically Burnett’s entire oeuvre in the lineup of films to screen, although a week into the series, several have already been shown. However, there will be some repeats; for example,...

Damn! I totally effed up and scheduled our podcast season debut tonight, completely forgetting that the MoMA Charles Burnett retrospective also begins tonight! And with his masterpiece too, Killer Of Sheep, which I Still haven’t seen on the big screen, and really want to. I have the recently released DVD issue, but, I think this is a film I’d really love to see in a theater, in all its gritty black and white glory.
Anyway… I already alerted you to this about 2 or 3 weeks ago, so consider this a reminder! MoMA sent out the below press release which details the entire retrospective.
But I’ll break it down for you:
What is it? Charles Burnett is being feted at MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art, here in New York City) with a series titled Charles Burnett: The Power To Endure.
When is it? April 6-25, 2011.
Where is it?...

So another year has passed and its time for another round of awards for the people who make the television shows we like to watch.
Television is interesting these days. Never before have we seen such great, creative output. Never before have we been subjected to such drivel. It all gets paraded before us tonight, as we watch the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (handed out, it should be noted, by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) on CBS, CTV in Canada.
8:00
Interesting that the Emmys chose to introduce the 2009 edition of the Primetime awards by harkening back to the early days of television. Especially as the business of television has never been closer to a complete collapse. Oh, announcer who is trying so hard to sound like a TV host from the '50s. You don't sound at all like you're a three pack-a-day smoker.

The Emmys are once again almost upon us and there is nothing I find more satisfying than looking down a list of nominees. I don’t know, I just really like it. Anyway, I know many people might not care too much about the Emmys, I’m more of a Golden Globe man myself, but you do have to give it to them for giving 30 Rock the Emmy for best comedy two year in a row, if you don’t know that show Rocks!! So here’s the list and a few comments I thought I’d add to the nominees.
Best Comedy Series
Entourage
Family Guy-Really hope this show doesn’t win, not a big fan as so many others are.
Flight of the Conchords-i’d really like to see this show win, but it definitely won’t.
How I Met Your Mother-I’d also like to see this one win too.

The 61st Emmy Noms are here and some Oscar, Grammy, and Tony winners have been invited for the first time to the dance this year. While HBO’s series ‘True Blood’ was glaringly left off the list for Best TV Drama, it’s brilliant mini-series ‘Grey Gardens’ received a stellar 17 nominations!
