Bollywood seems obsessed with foreign bombshells! And why not? One after the other, the international beauties seem to keep making a mark. So the list is growing.
Arab Brazilian model Bruna Abdullah generated quite a buzz with I Hate Love Storys alongside Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor, while Welsh model Lisa Lazarus impressed with Salman Khan in Veer. Swedish-Iranian model and dancer Maryam Zakaria got a chance to shake a leg with Kareena Kapoor in Agent Vinod; that too for a mujra number.
Half-Sri Lankan half-Malaysian beauty Jacqueline Fernandez has been managing to bag quite a few movies like Housefull, Murder 2, Housefull 2 and even Aladin; co-starring megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
Half-Czech half-Pakistani American fashion model and actress Nargis Fakhri became a sensation of sorts opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar, while South African Playboy model Candice Boucher romanced dashing debutant Sachiin Joshi in Aazaan. Not to forget the Uruguayan-Mexican actress...

Any independent film producer will tell you that the completion date of a film is significantly less important than the release date. Rajshree Ojha's Chaurahen (Crossroads) was completed in 2007 and has been traveling the festival circuit for several years before finally hitting Indian cinema screens this last Friday. The distributor, PVR Director's Rare, also recently released Sudhish Kamath's intimate rom-com, Good Night | Good Morning, which opened to rave reviews and unfortunately little business. Chaurahen seems like it might be destined for a similar fate, though perhaps less critical fanfare for a film with a lot to say and relatively little to grab you.The film charts the paths of three groups of people in three different parts of India over the course of a...

Victor Banerjee whose torrid 65-second long smooching sequence with Keira Chaplin in Chaurahen has been voluntarily snipped out by the film's director, is very angry with this year's National award jury. His wrath is directed at the jury for rejecting the Assamese director Bidyut Kotoki's film As The River Flows for not being Assamese.
Victor plays a central part in this highly-acclaimed film. Lashing out at the jury, Victor says, "We should set rhinos and wild water buffalos on those members of the jury whose constipated vision needs a socio-cultural suppository shoved into them."
Victor can't see the logic of an Assamese film being rejected for not being Assamese. "I'm flummoxed by the absurdity of a National jury watching a film in the Assamese language, directed by an Assamese, shot in Assam being proclaimed as being 'not Assamese'. Hello? How much more Assamese did they want the film to be?...

Mumbai, Mar 17: ‘Chaurahen’, the low- budget film, directed by Rajshree Ojha in 2007 is finally seeing the light of the day after 5 years of lying in the cans without a distributor for releasing it.
Kiera Chaplin, Grand- daughter of the world- renowned comedian and director Charlie Chaplin, plays a character of a foreigner in the film and is only too delighted about the film hitting the theaters. Kiera, a model turned actor, met Ojha at the Student Academy Awards where Ojha’s film ‘Moment’ won a prize. It was there Ojha narrated the film’s story to her and Kiera agreed pronto to be a part of the film.

After directing a film that is as commercial and Bollywood as they get, Rajshree Ojha returns to the screen with her film Chaurahen, and this time commercial is anything but what the film looks like. Originally completed in 2007, Chaurahen went on to screen at 11 international film festivals before securing theatrical distribution in India by PVR Cinema and global online distribution by Mela.
Chaurahen (Crossroads), a film directed by Rajshree Ojha, who previously directed Aisha, in addition to two other popular specialty projects, boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Soha Ali Khan, Victor Banerjee, veteran Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman, and Kiera Chaplin, granddaughter of the silent film superstar Charlie Chaplin. The film is an adaptation of short stories by celebrated author Nirmal Verma. Ojha describes the three vignettes that comprise Chaurahen as “snippets of collected photographs, bringing together similar disconnected people trying to find their path.”

Director: Rajshree Ojha, Writers: Rajshree Ojha, Anuvab Pal (based on the stories of Nirmal Verma), Actors: Victor Banerjee, Roopa Ganguly, Soha Ali Khan, Ankur Khanna, Kiera Chaplin etc.
There aren’t many literary adaptations in Indian cinema these days. So an effort to render Nirmal Verma’s stories on celluloid is a welcome endeavor. However, it is also a tad too ambitious. The stories that are simple yet delve into the complexities of human relationships may appear visually-oriented, but to hold them together cinematically via an engaging narrative demands much more than an adept ensemble cast. This is where Chaurahen disappoints: it limits itself to a high-flown, philosophical montage of scenes where it is difficult to identify with or feel for any of the characters. Because they spent most of their time philosophizing about life instead of behaving like mere mortals with motives. Not to mention, the fact that they...

If you follow my Indian film coverage here, you've noticed that I've been able to get reviews of new releases that haven't gotten theatrical distribution in India a few times. Those reviews have been thanks to the Mela VOD service, who are formally introducing their new First Day First Show initiative with the day and date release of Rajshree Ojha's Chaurahen/Crossroads.The film, which has played in eleven international film festivals, will open on Indian cinema screens tomorrow, March 16, and on the same day become available on demand through the Mela service worldwide. Previously, Mela have released Bollywood horror film Ghost (review here), and the wonderful little indie Good Night | Good Morning (review here) in the same manner, but this formal initiative is hopefully...

Mumbai, March 12: After telling the story of a fashionista in her directorial debut "Aisha", director Rajshree Ojha returns to tell human relationship stories with her next venture "Chaurahen". The film is based on four short stories by eminent Hindi litterateur Nirmal Verma and she says that this time she had all the creative freedom.
Ojha's "Aisha", which had Sonam Kapoor in the lead role and was produced by Anil Kapoor, was an adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma".
"When we decided to do an adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma, there were many layers to the character. I don't know where those layers vanished. While doing Nirmal.

Charlie Chaplin's grand-daughter Kiera Chaplin is preparing to release her first Bollywood film Chaurahen. The Rajshree Ojha-directed project gets its theatrical release next month, four years after it was originally completed, reports Hindustan Times. Speaking about casting Chaplin in the film, Ojha explained: "She had watched my first film Moment, which I made when as a student in America. It fetched me a Student Academy Award. "She showed an interest in working with me and I told her that I was shooting it in India. She had no issue with that, so I sent her the script, which she liked." The 2007 film, (more)...
