- Twenty Years Ago
A young Damion stops riding halfway across a bridge, dismounts, and looks down on the water below. He remembers Father taking Ana away, then climbs over the railing and prepares to jump. Damion finally jumps but stops, suspended just above the water. He remembers Father saying that Damion will always be his son. His concentration broken, Damion falls the few feet into the water.
Now
Damion lies on the floor of the cell in St. Theresa's. Dr. Katherine Reynolds examines him, proclaims him dead, and tells the guards to take Damion's body to the morgue and call Hastings.
At Damion's house in the living room, Crow advances on Gabriella. She threatens to throw herself through the glass window, killing the unborn demon within her. Hastings and Victoria arrive, and when Crow is disrupted Gabriella hit him over the head with a lamp. Crow falls to the ground, stunned, and Hastings tells Gabriella to take her car and go while she and Victoria deal with Crow.
In the kitchen, Finn wakes up and hears Hastings and Victoria talking in the living room. He goes there and demands to know where "the vessel" is. The women say that Finn won't catch them, and Caretaker arrives and stabs Finn in the chest. As Crow recovers, Finn falls to the ground and telekinetically throws a discarded poker at Caretaker. Hastings leaps in the way, and the poker taker her in the back. She falls into Caretaker's arms, and Finn and Crow go after Gabriella as Hastings collapses in Caretaker's arms.
The next morning, Ana arrives at the house as the EMTs take Hastings to the hospital. Caretaker tells Ana what happened, and Victoria comes out and hugs Ana. Caretaker goes in the ambulance with Hastings to the hospital, and Ana asks Victoria if Caretaker has the other half of the knife. when her mother confirms that Caretaker does, Ana says that she needs it to get Basar out of Daimon.
Ana and Victoria go to St. Theresa's, and Reynolds tells them that Daimon is dead. She tells them that his body is in the morgue. In the morgue, someone tackles the attendant and stop him from cutting Damion's body open.
Gabriella goes to a church and prays. As she finishes, Terrazi comes in and says that he's glad to help her with whatever problem she has. He sees her pregnancy, and she asks him to call someone for her.
Ana arrives at the morgue and finds the attendant unconscious on the floor. His uniform has been taken and he's bleeding from a head wound.
Damion/Basar goes to an abandoned carnival, where Crow and Finn are waiting. Crow says that they don't have the child but will find it. Damion/Basar grabs Crow by the throat, then tells Finn that the two demons were supposed to protect the child. Finn says that he can find Gabriella through his host body's connections with the Blood, and Damion/Basar released Crow and walks away.
Esther and her Blood thugs arrive at the church in response to Terrazi's call, and surround Gabriella. Terrazi says that it's his fault for putting Gabriella with Daimon. When Gabriella says that Daimon wasn't the one who impregnated her, Esther doesn't believe her and tells the novice to stop making excuses for Daimon. Esther tells her to accept that Daimon is Father's son.
Gabriella tells Esther that she had Terrazi call her because she needs answers, and asks if she can stop Kthara from coming into the world and if she can survive it. Esther tells her that there's no chance.
In Hastings' office, Ana and Victoria meet and Ana tells her mother what happened in the morgue. Victoria insists that it's Basar, not Daimon, and asks how Ana knew that Daimon wasn't dead. Ana says that her brother is "special", like her, and they talk about how Father said Ana and Daimon were special in the basement, the day when he tried to set her on fire. Father said that Ana was stronger than the other kids and would survive being burned. Victoria and Daimon arrived before he could do it, and stopped him.
Victoria asks Ana how she got away from Father, and Ana says that she didn't and Father buried her alive after he caught her. He told Ana that he needed her to understand real pain and suffering, but she could survive it. Ana did, and that's how she realized that she was "special". Victoria hugs her, just as Chris arrives and tells them that he has an eyeball in his throat.
Gabriella asks why Daimon can't exorcise the child, and Esther says that Daimon is gone and they have to kill it the old-fashioned way. She tells Gabriella and Terrazi that her thugs will protect the church from keeping the possessed demon hordes from breaking in. Gabriella will deliver the child, but it won't be powerful enough to stop them, and they'll contain it in a coma. Esther says that they can't kill evil, because it's in them, and Gabriella notes that good is in everyone as well. The older woman says that the demons will kill Gabriella as soon as the child is born, and asks Gabriella what' she's going to do about it.
Ana and Chris go to the hospital waiting room, and Caretaker tells them that Hastings is still in surgery. Ana tells Caretaker that they need him, and Caretaker checks the reopened marks on Chris' arms. Caretaker warns that Chris is a Keeper now, but Chris refuses to take the "job". The older man says that it could be a good thing for Ana.
Gabriella sits in a pew and prays, and looks up to see Damion/Basar watching her. Basar tells her that Daimon is dead, and Gabriella refuses to believe it. The demon tells her that it doesn't matter what she believes, and her fate has already been decided. Gabriella appeals to Daimon, inside of his body, as Crow and Finn come in.
Terrazi, Esther, and the Blood thugs surround them, and Terrazi sprinkles holy water on them. Damion/Basar tells Finn and Crow to kill the others while he takes Gabriella. Gabriella tells them all to stop, and asks Daimon to let them out. She tells Esther that she'll go with the demons, insisting that no one dies because of her. Gabriella tells Damion/Basar that he can have what he wants without killing anyone, and leaves with the demons.
Caretaker, Victoria, and Ana give Chris the two parts of the blade, and Caretaker tells Ana that the blade has to be reforged and its energy reconnected. Chris overhears them, and says that it takes fire and blood. He says that Ana is the only one who can do it. He says that he knows it through "Keeper intuition", and Victoria is sure that Ana can do anything Daimon can. Victoria tells her daughter that she will take the pain as Ana holds the blade. Ana warns her that it's torture, but Victoria says that she's felt it before and is still there. Victoria insists that Daimon needs her.
The demons take Gabriella to the carnival, and Gabriella says that she's not giving birth to the spawn. Finn says that they'll raise the child, and then their way against the "oppressors" will begin again. Gabriella asks if the "oppressors" violated Kthara the way that Basar violated her, and Basar says that he isn't Daimon but Kthara's herald. He insists that the blood of the men hunting demons lives in Gabriella, and the day is coming when the strongest demons will come and end the war once and for all. Gabriella insists that Daimon won't let it happen and will exorcise the demon before the spawn is born. Basar says that Daimon will fail her, as all men do.
The demons take Gabriella back to the bedroom.
Chris, Victoria, and Ana go to Victoria's cell Chris hastily leaves. Ana takes the two blades and reforges them, while Victoria absorbs her daughter's pain from the contact. The two of them relive Father cutting Damion's chest with the blade, and the blades forge into one weapon. They drop the knife and collapse from the strain.
Later, Victoria goes to the hospital waiting room and asks Caretaker if there's any word on Hastings. She hasn't come out of surgery yet, and he starts to leave to help Ana and Chris. Victoria warns him that he can't do any good, and Caretaker stays. Victoria convinces him to talk about when he learned about demons and the Blood. Caretaker says that he chased his own dreams instead of staying and running the family funeral home. He went abroad to study, and then come home to find his little brother inhabited by a demon.
Victoria and Caretaker's brother were both marked by Father. Caretaker admits that he couldn't save his brother. The surgeon comes in and tells them that Hastings is out of surgery but isn't stable. They revived her on the operating table twice, and the next twelve hours will be critical.
Damion/Basar helps Gabriella into a tub, and she tries to get through to Daimon. Basar tells her that no one is coming to save her, and Gabriella asks what happens when the spawn is born. She says that they have no appreciation for what life or love means, and Basar tells her that when Kthara is born, Gabriella will truly experience what life means.
Gabriella moans in pain as the labor contractions come on, and Basar takes her hand. She tells Daimon to "wake up", and Basar steps away and tells the other two demons that it's time
Ana and Chris enter the carnival gates, and Ana tells Chris to look for Gabriella while she takes care of Daimon/Basar. They split up on their missions.
Gabriella moans in pain, and Daimon/Basar senses the knife and goes to investigate.
Caretaker and Victoria stand at the unconscious Hastings' bedside. Victoria puts a comforting hand on Caretaker's shoulder.
Ana walks along the boardwalk, spots Daimon/Basar, and goes after him. She chases him into a haunted house ride, and Basar calls from the darkness saying that Daimon tried to exorcise him but failed. The demon telekinetically throws severed dummy heads toward her.
Crow and Finn passively watch as Gabriella goes through her labor pains.
Basar calls from the darkness, telling Ana that Mother is coming to make their "family" whole. He says that she could join them, or he could kill her. Ana is unimpressed and asks why Basar is hiding, and the horror dummies activate.
Finn tells Gabriella to breathe through the pain.
Hastings goes into arrest, and Caretaker calls for the nurse.
Ana continues through the haunted house, and Daimon/Basar leaps at her. She dodges and then comes at him with the knife.
The surgeon arrives and checks on Hastings, and has Victoria and Caretaker ushered back.
Gabriella mutters The Lord's Prayer.
Ana and Daimon/Basar fight hand-to-hand. The struggle for the knife and Ana knocks Daimon/Basar through a nearby wall. He telekinetically pulls it to him despite Ana's efforts, and comes at her.
The spawn moves beneath Gabriella's skins, as Crow and Finn look on.
Ana calls to Daimon, as Daimon/Basar tries to drive the knife into her chest. He drives the knife into her shoulder, and Ana knocks Daimon/Basar to the side.
Finn performs a C-section on Ana to cut the spawn out.
Daimon begs Ana to kill him, but Ana refuses to kill her brother. As Daimon/Basar stands up, Chris arrives and grabs Daimon/Basar by the shoulder as he holds the demon in place. Chris warns Ana that he can't hold Daimon/Basar forever, and a fiery spear appears in Ana's hand where the knife she's holding is. She drives the spear into Daimon/Basar's back, and the scar on Daimon's chest burns as the spear reverts back to a knife. The Basar demon parasite is impaled on the knife, and it disintegrates as the knife kills it.
Ana goes to her brother and tells him not to die on her. He tells her to give him the knife, and Chris looks at the Keeper scar on his forearm. Chris tells Ana that they're too late.
Finn holds up the Kthara spawn, and says that it's a girl. He puts the baby girl in a basket, then tells Gabriella that Mother needs her. He assures Gabriella that when it's over, she'll be just like them: embraced by the shadow side.
Daimon arrives, knocks Finn back, and drives the demon Raum out of Crow's body using the knife. When Finn tries to leave with the baby, Ana and Chris block his escape. Finn insists that they've already won, and Chris takes the basket while Ana telekinetically holds Finn and Daimon exorcises Magoth from Finn's body using the knife.
Daimon goes to the comatose Gabriella and begs her to come back, saying that he's there. She mutters as the baby cries, but doesn't respond to Damion.
The next morning at St. Theresa's, Caretaker holds the unconscious Hastings' hand. She wakes up and says that she's hungry. Caretaker is amused and relieved, and tells her that they operated on her. They took out one of her kidneys and cut out part of her bad lung. He assures her that she no longer has the cancer and smiles at her, and she figures that since Caretaker is there, everyone else is alive and well. Caretaker tells her that they're alive, but not well.
In the cell, Chris looks at the baby in the basket. Ana comes in and says that Damion will take the baby home as soon as he's sure the baby won't destroy the world. Chris says that's his job, and reveals the Keeper scare still on his left forearm. He tells Ana that he can keep the baby from harming others and herself, but he'll need Ana's help and the knife.
Damion sits at Gabriella's bedside, and tells her that the baby is apparently normal. He figures that the baby has a chance if she grows up in a nurturing home. Gabriella says that the baby needs to die, and Daimon suggests that Gabriella hold the baby first. She insists that it's a monster, not a baby, and will grow up to kill millions.
Gabriella says that Daimon has no idea what she's gone through. When she gave birth, she had an epiphany that everything she though she knew changed. Gabriella questioned her faith and believes that she's now being punished. Daimon says that she's not alone, and Gabriella tells him that she can't trust him and he's "his kind". When she tried to reach him, Daimon wasn't there. Whether Daimon realized it or not, she convinced him that the world around them is well. She figures that Daimon is either ignorant or evil, and either way she regrets the day she met him.
On Chris' instructions, Ana puts the knife to the back of his head.
Daimon goes to the same bridge he went to as a child and looks down on the water. He imagines himself there as a young boy, and the boy briefly looks at Daimon before disappearing. Daimon goes down to the river bank, and Ana arrives. He says that he's fine, but Ana knows better and after a moment, Daimon agrees with her. Daimon thanks her for saving him, and she thanks him for never giving up on her.
Ana assures Daimon that he owes her nothing because they're family, and Daimon tells Ana that he loves her. She smilingly agrees and hugs her brother, and says that she loves him as well.
Back at Daimon's home, Ana and Victoria make tacos... together. Caretaker brings Hastings there in wheelchair, and Daimon and Hastings hug as he lets them in.
Ana and Caretaker look down on the baby, and Ana lets Caretaker change the baby.
Hastings tells Daimon that Gabriella refused to take her calls. Daimon asks why Hastings didn't tell him that she had cancer, and she insists that it was her business and no one else's. He sympathizes, and Hastings tells him that they were both wrong.
Victoria tells them that they have five minutes until meal time, and they joke about her cooking. Ana comes in and says that Chris is heading back to San Francisco to try and win back Derrick. Meanwhile, Daimon takes Caretaker a beer. Caretaker advises Damion to live in the present, then joins the others at the dinner table. Damion watches and joins them, and Victoria proposes a toast. She says that she knows from experience that horrible things happen to good people. What is important is how they get through the suffering to the other side... together. Victoria offers a toast to her amazing children, and the people who raised them. Everyone joins in the toast.
Esther, Finn, and Gabriella get together and drink.
As the adults eat dinner, the baby lies in its crib.
One Month Later
Chris is taking his supposed niece Lily on a ferry when he senses something and wavers. A man, Papa, strides through the crowd to Chris and recognizes him as the new Keeper. Chris tells Lily to run, calling her "Kthara". Papa tells her to think hard to recall her real name, and Lily says that her name is "Lily". He tells her to think hard and remember who he is, because it's a long time since they last saw each other. Lily recognizes "Papa" by name, and Papa tells her that nothing makes his heart melt more than hearing that word.
Papa tells Keeper that he and Lily will be on their way. Chris refuses to let the girl go, and says that he's been marked and Papa can't touch him. People in the queue collapse behind Papa, and Chris realizes what Papa is capable of. Lily takes Papa's hand and goes with the man, smiling. He suggests that they find her brother and sister, and they have a lot to catch up on. More people collapse as they pass.
