“It’s always humbling because every show has its moment. I’m glad we’re still in the conversation,” declares executive producer Tom Campbell about the continued success of the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” TV empire. For our recent webchat he adds, “I still remember for eight seasons when we were on Logo. Any year, the show could have been canceled for a million reasons. So, I feel like “Drag Race” is the tree that grew out of the crack in the sidewalk. You know, it’s really this miracle thing that keeps giving.” We talked with Campbell as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with 2022 Emmy Awards nominees. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

The 2020 Berlinale marks the 70th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival. The anniversary, which took place from February 20 to March 1, 2020, was the first festival headed by director duo Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian. This year, seven Chinese-language films[1] produced by filmmakers from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan were screened at Berlinale. This article discusses the films individually through a brief account of their content and an introduction of their filmmakers.

The official lineup for the 70th Cannes Film Festival, which will run from May 18–28, was announced April 13. While a few more screenings will undoubtably be added as we creep nearer to the festival, the selections announced feature a lot worth getting excited over — including, for the first time, two television shows (Twin Peaks and Top of the Lake) and a virtual reality film (Carne y Arena). Also, considering that The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Beguiled are both in the main competition, there is, assuming equal probability, an 11.1% chance that a film starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell will take home the top prize. Figure 1: The 400 Blows.
"In my view, the concept [the move] does not refer to the literal, physical movements of either the performers or the camera (although it can include these elements). It does not necessarily involve powerfully dramatic (or comic) large-scale alterations in plot. It does not have to entail any grand-slam subversion of social, ideological or cultural conventions. But something, in a filmic move, will indeed have to shift, perhaps gently, but tellingly so."
—Adrian Martin (2010: 23) [my emphasis]
Before being frozen, framed and immortalized in the static final shot of Les quatre cents coups (1959), Antoine Doinel undergoes its antithesis—a sequence of camera movements that re-frames, follows and foregrounds his actions. Escaping the juvenile delinquent centre, the character runs on a rugged country road, the destination of which neither he nor we know; the camera tracks the dash laterally in a medium shot. Visualizing his exuberance, Antoine performs a childlike half-run,...

Sales may be bad, but they're not that bad for Fortissimo. Wouter Barendrecht recognizes that business continues to be down since AFM last year, but rather than drive distributors out of business, he has sold six titles. Food, Inc. went to Golden Village for Singapore, Cafe Groove for Japan, A-Film for Benelux, United King Films for Israel and Deltamac for Hong Kong and Taiwan. Todd Solondz's Forgiveness went to Israel's Shani Films and Russia's Maywin Media. Paul Schrader's 1985 cult favorite Mishima went to NonStop Entertainment for Scandinavia, Wild Side for France, Avalon for Spain. The tipped for Cannes title Face went to Maywin Media for Russia and to Switzerland's Columbus Film. The Song of Sparrows was acquired by Taiwan's Cineplex Entertainment and Germany's ARD Degeto, which also acquired Son of a Lion.
