This Chupacabra doesn't suck
This is a standout episode of the History Channel's program MonsterQuest. Anyone complaining that the show's investigations always turn up nothing should be pointed here, because this one gives us photos, bodies, skeletons, hair, DNA and bones of the unusual cryptid- it's nearly a slam dunk.
The Chupacabra is a legend that since 1995 has spread throughout Latin America and eventually to the Southern United States. The mysterious creature kills and drinks the blood of farm animals. Although often described as a two-legged reptilian creature with spikes, sightings in the US describe more of a hairless canine.
Unsurprisingly, it's not the reptilian version that it proved to exist in this episode. We have one story of a man who saw the beast on his window, and while like other MonsterQuest eye witness accounts it is somewhat entertaining, it leaves no tangible evidence. Likewise, setting up cameras in the creature's habitat, as usual, turns up nothing.
However, the bones, hair analysis, and DNA analysis all point to diseased canines- coyotes, dogs and wolves. This is very good evidence that the nearly-hairless four-legged creatures with fangs that have been spotted are real. All that's missing in this episode is concrete proof that these are the creatures killing rabbits and chickens and drinking their blood- but I'd say their proximity to the crime scenes makes them fine suspects. In spite of witnesses (untrained in science) insisting it's a new animal at the end of the episode, MonsterQuest has gone a long way in explaining a phenomenon that is Latin America's equivalent to Sasquatch and the Loch Ness Monster- a rare achievement.
