Interesting Turn
zachmetzgers20 December 2021
This episode is unlike any of the others in season 2 as it follows Mitch and his unexpected visitor (Alex) in Italy. I like that they've continued to follow Mitch, because it brings up interesting concepts - what is the aftermath like for the canceled, and should they have a chance at redemption? True to season 2, there are a few moments of moral signaling but for the most part, the episode attempts to present flawed characters and allow you to draw you own conclusions. The character of Paola really grew on me, and she was great in this episode.

Alex is hard to take at times. She's not particularly strategic. She's very aggressive and reactive, so it's kind of amazing (maybe a bit unbelievable) that she made it this far in her career, but I assume her unraveling is reflection of where she is now but she wasn't always like this. In Aniston's capable hands, this character is still incredibly compelling to watch.

So ultimately, this episode follows 2 flawed characters and shows you their vulnerabilities. I found it interesting.

Reviews are missing the point
cosmochickita7 November 2021
Most reviews here, in my humble opinion, are missing the point.

1. Those saying they now hate Jenn Aniston or Steve Carell... they are depicting atrocious characters, if they are successfully making you hate the characters and somehow you're associating it to the actor, means they are doing a great acting job and the "celebrity actor" is disappearing behind the character. That's a good thing.

2. In case they're any doubt, they are atrocious selfish characters, feeling sorry for themselves because of how each element makes them look and that each of those creates an existential crisis in their mind... when we see that it's actually so inconsequential that the next item can displace the previous in this 24 hour shallow news.

3. If you're hating the show for making atrocious characters the main point of the story (instead for example, focusing on the Mitch's victims), then I THINK you're missing the point: they are not glorifying those characters, but they are giving a subtle portrayal of how horrible selfish people are... mind-knowingly horribly selfish.

Watching a viper pit and being disgusted by it is what they want you to feel. Doesn't condone them or ignores those they bit (sorry terrible analogy I know).

How can you redeem the "unredeemable"
DantiMovies20 January 2023
This is a good portrayal of what happens to a person that realizes that they did horrible things and now have the guilt to carry.

Mitch wants to be a better person even though he knows that he will carry the weight of his sins for the rest of his life. This does not excuse the severity of his mistakes but the show wants you to see what happens after a person's life is destroyed by their own doing.

The media world is taught will not forgive even thought people want to do better.

I read someone say that Jennifer Anniston and Steve Carrell's acting was terrible but I have not idea what that person think talent is.

The episode I've been waiting for
hlamparter-962846 February 2022
This episode was so well done. The writing & the acting were perfection. I felt as if Alex's loss of Mitch has just been hanging out there and here we finally see her grieve. And I love the show was brave enough to show a depth in Mitch that he desires to be a good human without fear of backlash from our culture who wants to villianize without leaving opportunity for genuine remorse and change.

Excellent acting from Steve
csflih29 October 2021
Steve's acting in this episode takes it to another level. To be honest I didn't think he was such an actor until now, I know he is good but not this good. I was wrong. Top notch acting which really stood him out from other A list Hollywood actors. The micro expression and his eyes are pulling you in, into every inch closer to the heart of the character.

Alex Levy is the worst.
AlexxAmadeo30 October 2021
Although I cannot pretend that most other characters aren't pieces of garbage pretending to be humans either. I don't know how long I can keep hate-watching this utter catastrophe of a show.

Blue Water Exit
bmcraec6 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This season has not had the same feeling of coherence to vision that the first season delivered. Could this be the panicked slog of a creative team that hadn't thought this far ahead, and is too tired and distracted to really build enough in that world to persuade an audience. These things are subtle, and that lack of subtlety shows in this episode. The writers couldn't sketch a strong enough character arc for Jennifer Anniston to really make the audience believe she is this person. The entitlement, the impatience, the inability to get what she wanted in extremely childlike outbursts, seemed to play more to a sitcom than to a serious drama about one of the most challenging aspects our culture is addressing. It's subtle, but it's bothersome to anyone comparing the almost effortless performance of Paola, and Steve Carrell's Mitch, a bit less. A worthy story arc for Mitch, if all too predictable. At least he wasn't in mid-speech at his scene exit, pursued by a stare.

Great Acting. Upturn
bobetjo29 October 2021
Steve Carrell is a great actor. So watchable. At last season 2 has an upturn. Jennifer Aniston was also very creditable. She looked how she was meant to feel. On the edge of a breakdown with no sense of proportion over a comment in a book. I did not miss the rest of the show or cast.

Carrell playing Mitch is amazing. I really hope for redemption for that flawed character.

Episode 207
bobcobb30121 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There were moments of this that were good, but it dragged on for far too long. I feel like they could've wrapped Mitch and Alex up in 5 minutes and not devoted a whole episode to it.

Intense
tdgraphicarts29 October 2021
The buildup was intense. The editing and parallels worked well. Just a gut wrenching scene. There is a lot of balance in this show that has many sides.

Oh Look. They're Arguing Again.
danekera-9771730 September 2023
He argues with her. She argues with her. He argues with him. Young argues with old. Brother argues with sister.

LOL. At this point in Season 2 it's just commonplace that every single scene is someone arguing with somebody else. It's just never ending. Is 'argument' the only type of dialogue that the writers know?

TMS is the most toxic place to work filled with the most toxic and unhappy people. Nobody is happy. Nobody has a happy moment.

And Mitch just needs to go away. The whole Italy side story is just boring and bizarre. Adds zero to the series.

Which is depressing after the delight that was Season 1. Season 2 has just become nothing but people arguing in circles with absolutely no point whatsoever.

This show should be put out of its misery
king_cameron29 October 2021
First season was excellent, novel, engaging and exciting. This dull, dragged out second season is a pitiful sequel. It's been obvious where it would lead from last season but the sheer length of time they've spent with boring scenes juxtaposed with overreacting from Aniston is horrendous. This would've been far better as a miniseries as there just isn't enough material for them to spread it out over multiple seasons. It's a shame as it drags down the entire tv series as a whole, when the first season really was excellent.

This episode deserves an Emmy
kmlwakelaw30 October 2021
The writing, the acting, the timing, the chemistry - all of it - spot on. And, yes, I agree with the other reviews that talk about what garbage people they are, but that's the entire point. These are characters that are so self-involved and so out of touch with reality that they have absolutely no awareness of their own actions and behavior. But both Steve and Jennifer played it beautifully. And the dialogue and even physical comedy was perfect. It was at the same time touching, moving, infuriating, and hilarious. And all very simple. In my opinion - for the very little that's worth - this was the best episode of the series...

Steve C is amazing

I had a feeling he was entertaining the idea of harming himself which I totally get. How hard would it be to be known worldwide and shamed, ostracized and canceled? I feel for him.

Phenominal acting
marilynevanik29 October 2021
This episode continues with the deep emotional torments of the actors. Phenominal acting on their part.

Unfortunately, many parts of this complex essay on life will relate to those who have or are experiencing this now. Aniston's character is very believable when she overreacts to a mounting number of events in her life. Highly recommended.

Weak episode.
gkimmarygleim29 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately this episode highlighted that the character of Alex is the weakest in the show. The writing gives Jennifer Aniston nothing to work with. Slow, dull, boring episode. Alex plods along, stops, looks puzzled, turns, repeats, puzzled again, and always can't believe it's about anyone else but Alex Levy. The show is much better back in New York where the characters bounce off each other ("March on, March on".) Regarding directing/editing: it was very difficult to see if Mitch actually took his hands off the wheel or not. I think he did, but was such a tight shot on his face, well ...? Is the audience supposed to be puzzled?

I do want to praise Paola. That character has several dimensions and is so lively. I hope down the road Alex does end up helping her.

I guess next week Alex will add more lies to her growing pile. No, of course she wasn't in Italy when Mitch died. No, of course she hadn't spoken to him lately. But no matter about anything else, Alex and Mitch did not sleep together. Right ...

Best hour of television I've seen in a long time
admin-8025 November 2021
Put two incredible actors together, handling sensitive situations with complex characters and you've got yourself a masterpiece episode. Lots of haters for this episode because they judge the characters but people are complex and not one dimensional and this episode does a stellar job handling that.

Boring Episode
wrenleung2 November 2021
This episode is likely used to help Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carrell get Emmy nominations because their dialogue and acting were good but dang this was boring. Season 1 was way better.

Steve Carell is great.
joaniston29 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I think Steve Carell's performance is very convincing. He shows the complexity of Mickey's role and some characteristics in his soul, which is very rare. This episode makes Mickey more complex and plump. You will hate him and reflect on what abandoned him. Is he really a devil? Obviously not, but he unconsciously became a villain under the shadow, but he was unconscious. This is also the terrible part of the environment. A bad environment will penetrate people's hearts and pollute human nature unknowingly.

In this episode, the relationship between Mickey and Alex is also very thought-provoking. There is no doubt that Jennifer Aniston's performance in this episode is just right. She also fully explains the contradiction and selfishness in Alex's character and the human shadow left by the erosion of her soul by the environment. This episode is really good, Saved the shortcomings brought by the Procrastination of the previous episodes.

The problem here is that the processing of the end makes Mickey, a character that could have been excavated more deeply, disappear at once. The end of the game, I'm afraid it will make the last three episodes lose luster.

Heartbreaking and Human
nickgraywilson1 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not since Breaking Bad's Ozymandias has an episode of TV been so heartbreaking and human. Two deeply flawed people coming to terms with the end of their friendship. Alex needed to see her friend, and still loved him in spite of his horrible flaws. Though the characters are unlikeable, the acting and the closure we received was sublime. Steve will win his long deserved Emmy for this.

Just the pits
bsconsulting31 October 2021
This is getting worse by the episode. The plot is going nowhere. Can't believe Alex would just turn up, then drink loads of wine before driving to the airport. Such a disappointment after series 1. I keep hoping that the series is going to turn round but it doesn't seem it's going to. What a waste of talent.

Great in all aspects.
mironin-230 October 2021
Very deep, very touching. Great acting, tears. I would highly recommend this show, but this part will make real all efforts to watch the whole show. I can't believe in the world of double standards it is still possible to show real human feeling without making all aspects of life black and white.
