Naughty talks
AvionPrince162 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Diana and Charles get Separate.

We found also Camilia who get more focused on the episode because of Charles and we know that they are still talking together and become pretty naughty talks. And get recorded by a man in his truck. And that will have repercussions in the society. And they talked about somethings pretty intimate and that will get them in trouble. And that will get repercussions on. The newspapers and repercussions on the royal family and mostly Diana. That we will feel her pain and her suffering like the family.

I didnt know Charles was into these kind of things and i really felt bad for Diana and that disgusting talks about Charles and Camilia. Pretty surprising.

Camilla Get's Treated Like a Human!
wz-372178 March 2023
How nice to see, after all these years, a few drops of sympathy for a woman whose marriage had become an "in name only" situation for the sake of the children, and had fallen back in love with her old flame, Prince Charles. Why the world chose to idolize the self-centered, chronically adulterous Diana and direct so much hate to Camilla is a mystery to me.

It's always nice to see scenes between Princess Ann and Charles, their sibling relationship seems to have been one of the best parts of their childhood and extended into adulthood.

It's still jarring to see Dominic West play Prince Charles, they are such opposites in every way, but it was a good episode.

Honest and open
victoriajayne-3328012 November 2022
Wonderful to see this year, wth benefit of 30 years hindsight ....Charles wasn't ,like Margaret, allowed to marry the love of his life and like Margaret the results were a tragedy for all parties. So sad to read that some reviews still pillory Charles for this.

Sympathetic writing and very great acting all round especially Domenic West. Outstanding.

Great recreation of the early 90s fashions and styles too.oh those haircuts, dresses and suits.

But especially that outrageously fabulous revenge dress of the bonkers but gorgeous Diana...I actually thought that was news footage not a recreation.

Fumbled the bag.
W011y4m522 November 2022
"The Crown" has really chickened out of going for Charles' reputation & I'm therefore undoubtedly disappointed how "safe" the creators are playing it, behind the scenes. Trying to rehabilitate his public image whilst simultaneously depicting his infidelity is so disingenuous when the grudge people adopted (in response to the Camilla tape scandal) is still presently held against him to this day & attempting to negate the sheer selfish callousness of his (& her) actions by drawing focus to his charity work is so desperate, it's almost cringey how brazen the attempt has become to limit any damage to his general perception - as a consequence.

Where's the bite in this adaptation? The series has rendered itself utterly toothless.

Historically Inaccurate
Hitchcoc20 November 2022
The foundation for this episode is a phone call between Charles and Camilla that is intercepted by some sleazy reporter. Their interaction is really raunchy (I was uncomfortable when I heard it). It is published three years later after Charles and Diana announce their separation. I too remember that the response was to go on the offensive and show Charles to be a saint. Now, let's face it. He has become a leader in women's rights, education, the environment, and so on. But at this time, his efforts didn't work. The British people were up and arms and called for his head on a platter. I really found this one wanting in reality.

This chapter seems to be written by Charles himself.
iamangelcortes12 November 2022
Total disappointment in this chapter. Why dedicate a chapter to Carlos's charity? In the previous 40 episodes that The Crown had, I never wanted to cut an episode like this episode did.

And that final scene of Charles dancing. I said what the hell happened here?

The worst mistake Peter Morgan (creator of the show) made was not ending this series this season. The episodes feel filler. The actors try their best, but the script doesn't help them.

This season was originally going to be the last, but the creator of the series changed his mind at the last minute and it shows.

Season 6 looks like it's not going to get any better.

Emotional incontinence
dierregi14 November 2022
What I found weird about the Charles-Camilla-Diana melodrama was the emotional incontinence of the Britons. As a foreigner who can swear on their coldness and formality, their giving in to crude emotions was astonishing and not particularly endearing to witness.

To this day, you have a reviewer (female and British, I guess) calling Camilla "Cruella". How pathetically childish is that? Obviously, the side one takes in this farcical story depends on one's background, therefore I guess scorned women and those suffering from any sort of "victim syndrome" will still idolatre Diana as a saint martyr, conveniently forgetting that she might have been a virgin prior to her marriage, but she also had her flings during and after, namely with Barry Mannakee, James Hewitt (who was even suspected to be Harry's father), James Gilbey, Oliver Hoare, Hasnat Khan...and obviously Dodi.

But the evil cheater was Charles, let's not forget that ... and some Britons may be barely literate but claim the right of interfering in political decisions and state that Charles should have handed over the throne to his son, because they just cannot "forgive" him his indiscretion and being in love with Camilla.

You certainly would give up the job you've been after for 50 years because someone don't like you and your spouse... You wouldn't? Well, neither did he.

Episode 505
bobcobb30131 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I understand that I was quite young at the time, but it is still a little bit difficult for me to truly embrace what is going on in the world and get in the weeds of the complex Charles and Diana dynamic. Today we are so used to bitter divorces and people hating each other and getting out of it quickly, but that is not the case here. With royals it is different and the show is smart to lean into that tension and that dynamic, but so far it does not feel like they're fully getting it across the screen to the viewer. It all still feels simply a little bit too relaxed, all things in the situation considered.

The Rehabilitation Of Prince Charles
cskeefer11 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, Camillagate is shown, but rather than showing the full fallout of what happened in 1993 where Prince Charles almost had to step down from the line of succession, 'The Crown' decided to try to rehabilitate Prince Charles. They show a documentary that Charles commissioned to rehabilitate himself in the public eye which actually fell flat. They show his sister criticizing the royal family for not supporting him which didn't happen. They have Dominic West, a very attractive actor who doesn't look anything like Prince Charles, portraying him. And they played up The Prince's Trust, Charles' charity. Perhaps it's because he's now King Charles and married to Camilla, but it is disingenuous.

Charles' world through his eyes
fh_314 November 2022
I understand the show is classified as fiction and takes some liberties with real history to fit into the story framework. This episode was a stretch and shows how Charles felt he was right and everyone else was wrong.

I like Dominic West as an actor but he was miscast as Charles. West has more charisma and class standing in the background of a scene looking at his shoe than Prince (now King) Charles has ever had.

The writers did not review their history or forgot where season 4 left off. Charles was a whiny, petulant brat who had many girlfriends but only wanted to marry the bitter tramp Camilla. Camilla and her husband had many affairs and the Camilla - Charles relationship was a very open secret. He did not want to marry Diana, they had no chemistry, and Charles was immediately jealous of her popularity. He was a dull rock while she was a shining gem.

The Royal Family turned and walked away right after the wedding and ignored the brewing tension between the two. Charles continued his public affair with Camilla and had spies watching Diana to make sure she did not stray. Charles continued to act out against his wife and his family.

The late 80's and most of the 90's Charles intentionally did things to annoy the Queen or act out against her wishes by acting "unroyal." The Princes' Trust is one of those actions - a good program but still not what the Queen wanted. Other personal interests that raised the Queens' ire were talking at length about environmental issues (coal and manufacturing are critical to UK), alternative medicines (UK has a national health plan), and open support of other religions (Queen / King head of Church of England). All good thoughts but Charles was a future king not a member of Parliament and the Royal Family made sure not to openly make statements where they could be seen taking sides.

The Royal Family had low public approval driven by many factors but primarily by Charles. They did nothing to rein him in. The marriage to Diana was a mistake, allowing him to marry a much younger women at the age of 33 was a mistake, and tolerating his complaining about his responsibilities was a mistake.

Sadly this episode supported Charles being mistreated and spied upon by the family rather than showing Charles was acting out and undermining the source of his wealth and privilege.

Oh Really?
helenahandbasket-9373412 November 2022
For those of us actually cognizant during this particular period of time, I can say with absolute confidence that the majority of human beings, let alone those of British descent, felt nothing but disdain and disgust for Charles.

Coupled with his gross disregard for decency within his marriage, should have never married Diana in the first place, and without even a moment's thought for anyone other than himself (or at least that of his own children) he never gave a moments pause to what he was doing other than to please his own needs.

Public perception of him was in the toilet, and persisted long after his very ridiculous public appearance. He is still looked down upon for this incredible lapse in judgment, and that his 'Queen consort' is this same person who saw fit to destroy not one, but two families.

If one didn't know better, one might be under the impression that Charles himself wrote this particular episode.

Struggling with the casting and inaccuracy
sarahm171 June 2023
When I first saw the actor playing Charles I didn't know that's who was gonna play him. I like him Dominic West a lot. He's a very good actor. I've seen mostly everything he's in but I don't get Charles from him. There's just too much spirit and not in the right way. Not just the look and build, the hair as well which he definitely didn't have, he was balding pretty early on in his young years. He's too charming and good looking. They've always casted him more handsome but it just worked. Unfortunately it doesn't this time. It's the way he acts and speaks. I get more of a reserved and dull vibe off him than the route they went with his character. Also they watered down the leaked call between Charles and Camila as well. Which was raunchy and shocking. Let's not forget him saying he wish he could be her tampon. The public have never respected or liked him. I wish they showed that more. He still hasn't lived that down. Charles as a whole in the show is just not right in any way. Everything is exaggerated, his facial expressions are too dramatic and over the top. I don't mind since it's Dominic and his acting, is just 10/10 always and I guess they're doing something different but The queen is also not capturing it for me but least her voice and expressions seem right. Only great casting I think was Diana. She's great. Some scenes i thought it was actually her and Camila and a few others but so far it's disappointing and I just don't believe they're who they're playing.

Charles & Cruella were despised during this period of time. Why the writers tried to make him look good and guilt-free is beyond me!! I couldn't stand Charles in the late 8
news-surfing-813-88762612 November 2022
Charles & Camilla (aka horse face aka Cruella) were despised during this period of time - and rightly so. Why the writers tried to make him look good and guilt-free is beyond me!! I couldn't stand Charles in the late 80s and. 1990s, and Camilla was never suitable material as a future Queen. She cheated on her husband for years and, like Charles, had/has a mouth that needs washing out with soap. Charles may be King of England but he is still a spineless, wimpy person who should have handed over the throne to William. Season 5 makes Charles seem like the victim instead of the guilty party he was. Imagine poor Diana's plight. And she was only 20 when she married the unfaithful jerk. Ugh.
