Sex & Nudity

  • A man thrusts his pelvis against a table while mentioning maturation in a song.
  • Maureen pulls down her pants exposing her buttocks while another woman slaps her.
  • A male dancer pantomimes oral sex on a female dancer
  • Sex and Nudity:
  • There is no actual sex or nudity (aside from one brief view of a woman's butt as she jokingly moons someone) in the show, but the entire plot revolves around homosexuality and HIV, so the topics are discussed a lot.
  • In one scene, there is a brief simulated sex scene with multiple fully clothed characters moving in suggestive positions while singing sexually suggestive terms. The scene is the most adult in the show, but it is more interpretive than erotic or suggestive.
  • One song contains brief and light-hearted references to masturbation, S&M, sodomy, and homosexuality. There are also jokes about exotic dancing and erections.
  • There are many passionate kisses between both same-sex couples and opposite-sex couples.
  • One of the female leads is an exotic dancer.

Violence & Gore

  • The only violence is in the beginning when a character being mugged is simulated.
  • Police officers harass a sleeping homeless woman as a man tries to film her she then lashes out at him and then begs for money
  • A man plans to evict the tenants of a building he owns as well as some homeless people who take shelter in a lot next to the building.
  • We hear a dog dies by jumping out a window in a song.

Profanity

  • A Priest says "Off the premises queer"
  • The "F" word is said 6 times, and other mild language ("damn", "hell", "ass") is used a lot. There are also lots of sexual references, most used in only one song. "Gay", "faggot", "dykes", and "lezzies" are used to describe gay characters.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Cocaine is thrown around referenced and used.
  • Marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol are all mentioned. One character has a heroin addiction, but nothing graphic is ever shown.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The reprise of "I'll cover you" is very emotional.
  • This film may be emotional for viewers who have been affected by AIDS, however it has an uplifting message about living life to it's fullest and embracing the world around you.
  • There are some tense arguments between the leads
