- War breaks out in Nottingham as the Sheriff attacks with everything he has. Robin and the gang fight to defend the castle, but are forced to retreat. Finally it comes down to the feared few: Robin, Gisborne, Isabella and the Sheriff. Who, if anyone, will survive the bloodiest of battles?—Anonymous
- The second part of Something Worth Fighting For picks up where the first part left off. Blamire orders his men to ready the trebuchets, while the Sheriff Vaisey ('The Sheriff' refers to him, not Isabella, for the purposes of this episode's synopsis) gleefully anticipates destroying Nottingham and killing Hood.
Robin and Guy ride out to meet the Sheriff and Blamire. The Sheriff demands that Robin surrender or everyone dies, while taunting Guy about his failure to kill him; to prove he can back up his threats, he has one of the trebuchets fire at the town. The projectile causes devastating damage, its Byzantine Fire impossible to extinguish.
Robin and Guy ride back. The gang prepares to defend Nottingham and cremate Allan. Meanwhile, Guy goes down to the prison cell where Isabella is held and demands she tell him if she knew about the Sheriff being alive. She denies this. As a final mercy, Guy gives a small bottle of poison to Isabella which she can use to commit suicide quickly.
Kate tries to sneak away in the night to get to the King and inform him about the situation at Nottingham, hoping for reinforcements. He is stopped by Little John, but after some persuasion, he lets her go.
Robin discusses defensive strategies with his gang. He is criticised by Archer, who condemns him for using a peasant militia against a professional army and eventually storms out of the room. Finally, they agree that the trebuchets must be taken out. They decide to have Robin, Little John, Tuck and Guy sneak out under the cover of the darkness and sabotage the siege engines (they leave Much behind to command the defenders in case they don't make it). They manage to rig them in such a way that they would fire completely vertically next time, and thus destroy themselves. This is exactly what happens. When the Sheriff realizes they've been tricked, he spots Robin and his gang trying to sneak away and orders his soldiers to attack. Though they are outnumbered, they are rescued by Archer, who rides out and covers their retreat.
Archer has acquired a flask of the chemical required for Byzantine Fire. Tuck claims he might be able to work out the base components and make more.
Eventually, the Sheriff's army builds a battering ram and decides to just storm the castle. After a while, they break down the gates. Using groups of peasant bowmen and a defence-in-depth strategy, Robin's army causes casualties to the Sheriff's troops, but they are quite organized (by the standards of this series, anyway) and manage to cause casualties as well, so the heroes are eventually forced to retreat into the inner keep.
Isabella manages to seduce the horny, unnamed prison guard who was tasked to oversee her, steals his knife and kills him. She sneaks out. Meanwhile, the Sheriff's army breaks through the second gate. As Robin prepares to shoot the attackers from behind a portcullis, the Sheriff drags Kate forward, revealing he has captured her. He gloats that no reinforcements would be forthcoming - King Richard had been captured by Duke Leopold of Austria and held for ransom (which is something that did actually happen in real life history), and his troops won't fight without him. While Robin initially disbelieves him, eventually they realize they are doomed.
However, while the Sheriff is blathering, Much sneaks up on the walls with a rope, then descends to grab Kate. Quickly, the rest of the gang pulls on the rope to pull the two of them back up before the Sheriff's men can kill them. The furious Sheriff and Blamire call off the assault and regroup.
Robin instills some morale in his men, calling upon them to fight for justice and set an example with their bravery. "Is this not something worth fighting for?" The Sheriff's army soon renews their assault, but the Sheriff himself, along with Blamire, go to the secret tunnel entrance. Archer's trap sealed the entrance shut, but the Sheriff blows it open with the equivalent of a grenade.
Meanwhile, Tuck figures out that nut oil can be used as a component to create Byzantine Fire of their own, and orders the others to get as much as possible. Archer and Guy notice the secret entrance in the throne room that leads to the tunnel from the inside is open, and realize Isabella escaped there. Guy goes in with Archer to hunt down his sister. They hear the Sheriff blow up the entrance (thinking it's Isabella doing it) and Guy tells Archer to go tell Robin.
Guy manages to find Isabella and hold her at swordpoint, but the Sheriff and Blamire intervene. Guy and the Sheriff begin to duel again. Robin leaves Tuck in charge of the castle defence and goes down to the tunnel with Archer. Eventually, it ends up with the Sheriff, Blamire and Isabella facing off the three (half-)brothers. They battle for a while, then the Sheriff manages to impale Gisborne on his sword, while Isabella scratches Robin's neck with her dagger. It is revealed that the dagger was coated with the poison Gisborne had given Isabella to kill herself with, and thus Robin is not expected to survive for long. Blamire is also knocked down at some point, apparently by Archer, although it is not clear when. Having effectively taken out Guy and Robin, the Sheriff and Isabella retreat.
Robin goes back up. They decide to evacuate the people through the tunnel, through an alternate route. From behind a grill in a narrow passageway, they observe many soldiers, along with the Sheriff, moving in (Blamire also gets up at this point). Little John breaks down the grill and the people sneak out behind the advancing soldiers, only encountering a few of them. Little John is commanded to lead the people to the forest while Robin goes back to the castle courtyard.
The Sheriff & co move in, only to realize everyone has escaped. Barrels of nut oil-based explosives are stacked in the command room, where the Sheriff is. Robin manages an impossible shot from outside with a flaming arrow that hits one of the barrels, then runs away before the fireworks start. Too late, the Sheriff realizes what will happen. The whole inner keep is demolished, collapsing to the ground; everyone inside dies.
Outside, the gang and the people celebrate, but Robin, exhausted, just walks towards the forest (everyone is still in the plains just outside). Tuck reveals to everyone that Robin has been poisoned and is going to die. The gang follow Robin and they say their goodbyes to each other. Robin eventually passes out, and hallicunates Marian in front of himself. Soon afterwards, he dies, and the others resolve to carry on his legacy.
