We are watching the struggle between the Spanish police and drug dealers in the Strait of Gibraltar from the perspective of the police. An explanatory, traceable documentary, but stuck at a slightly narrow angle.

Four eps of whining cops.
Whining how everybody hates them while they're the 'good guys' harassing people over hashish, or breaking into a man's home without a warrant and then acting surprised when the evidence is inadmissible lol
Well made and informative.

I was particularly interested in this documentary as I live quite close to the Strait of Gibraltar, well only a couple hours by car. The Costa del Sol in Andalucia is very praised by tourists for its perpetual good weather but it also attracts gangsters from various nationalities. In La Línea: La Sombra del Narco it's mostly Spanish and Morrocans drug traffickers as the two countries are only seperated by a small piece of sea. I've never been a big fan of police, certainly not the trigger happy cowboys from the USA, but in this case you kind of feel sorry for the cops here, that try to keep the streets clean and it's not an easy job. The documentary shows their battle against the drug lords, against a population that benefit from the trafficking, in a city where unemployment is very high and where the temptation to make a lot of money is big. It's well made and is worth watching, certainly if you live in Spain and want to understand what is going on in La Línea.

I lived there from 1990-4 and it isn't really a tourist town. If you stick to the main drag's you can't go far wrong. Atunara is where the fags from Gibraltar get chucked off the speedboats and in seconds they have disappeared into the side streets and it was where you went for puff. At that time it was smack central you couldn't miss it and I can't see why it would have disappeared. I never had any trouble really well only once but that's life. Had a great time.
