The Munsters in color! And full body paint too!

Warning: Spoilers
Hot on the heals of Will Ryder's popular 'Sitcums' series of adult features, Hustler decided to copy the formula and grab a couple of classic TV series for themselves. So instead of 'Not the Bradys' and 'Not Bewitched' here comes 'This Ain't The Munsters'. Now I've always loved the look of the Munsters, so I was very interested to see how this would be adapted to porn. Unfortunately the costumes are on the whole ill-fitting, the wigs are unconvincing and the set looks cheap. The casting also isn't 100 % perfect. Lee Stone is impressive as Herman and Roxy Deville is sexy as Lily (if you look past the aforementioned crooked costume and wig) but Sahwna Lenee just doesn't remind me of any previous version of Marilyn Munster at all.

Obviously the biggest challenge the filmmakers faced in copying the look of the original Munsters lay in the make-up department. With a little help from camera tricks and digital color correction, they managed to pull of the climactic sex scene between Herman and Lily quite well. Eddie (Trent Soluri) also gets into a threesome, which in his case is supposed to be a grainy night vision version of a sex-tape (Eddie's a rocker in the story). This means all three participants are bathed in a eerie greenish blue light (and makes it possible for Trent to perform the scene sans body paint). Unfortunately it also makes the entire scene a bit of an eyesore.

Surprisingly, Grandpa (Gavin Wells) gets a lot of action, but only after transforming into younger, healthier looking bodies, namely Sammie Rhodes and Evan Stone. And with the current trend of limiting each performer to one sex scene, most of the running time features a bunch of uninteresting side characters getting frisky with each other. One of these is Jenna Haze, aka Samantha from the aforementioned Not Bewitched, only this time she plays a punk girl (no crossover references here). If this movie had been attempted ten or twenty years earlier, Herman, Lily and Marilyn would surely have seen a lot more action in a lot more interesting combinations, but alas, it was not to be.

Unlike Will Ryder's films, this Not Ain't does not confine the proceedings to the sixties, as evident by the sex-tape scandal subplot and an amusingly rendered computer generated gossip show hosted by a talking skull. All the other establishing shots are made out of pixels as well. Still, Larry Flynt did notice the difference in production values between this production and the two Bradys blockbusters, so he made a deal with Ryder to have his X-Play features be distributed by Hustler and have him direct the next installment in the 'This Ain't' series as well: This Ain't The Partridge Family.
