Please Save Yourself the 90 Mins
mikejneu29 January 2023
Literally one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The over-acting, repetitive plot points, and dramatic music will make you regret ever pressing play. I'm honestly surprised this movie is even on Showtime. It should be on a list of bad student films. Also, there's a 'twist' at the end that tries to be smart but it just adds to the B-level cheesiness of the entire production. I honestly fast forwarded about 10 minute increments at a time just to get through the whininess and whimpering that half of the script contained for these overgrown fratboys on their drunken trip into the woods. Don't do it.

It's unwatchable
fgamez-0680922 March 2023
I watched the first thirty minutes and then skipped to the end to see the solution. To anyone who sat through the entire movie, why? The writers apparently have a vocabulary of eighty words. Obscenties run rampant. In an attempt to make it real or gritty? The effect is to induce complete and utter boredom and disgust.

In addition to the awful dialogue and obnoxious, ridiculous characters, the "story" is nonexistent. Consisting of antics reflecting the fantasies of a fifteen-year-old boy; followed by actions which defy reality, logic, and any sort of common sense.

And for the twist at the end, the less said the better. I normally don't give one or two star since I caan usually find something redeemable but not in this one.

Who killed reasoning
orkneyislander25 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seeing the reviews here I thought this movie might be something special. Unfortunately not. A bunch of unstable morons go camping in the woods and end up running around killing each other and yelling hysterically for no real reason after one of them is found dead. So much for life long friendships. For supposedly intelligent adults who had their own businesses it took them all long enough to remember that they had a camera set up that recorded all the movements around camp and which could likely solve the mystery of what had happened during the night.

It took a female detective having a bad hair day to finally get to the truth with a few questions delivered in an aggressive manner that would have promoted zilch in the way of co-operation.

VIEWS ON FILM review of Who Killed Cooper Dunn?
burlesonjesse516 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Who Killed Cooper Dunn is not a question, it's a movie (in the form of a question). Other people die in "Cooper", there's plenty of F-bombs being thrown around, drugs are inhaled, and a disco ball just happens to be in the middle of a forest. It's a pitching tent nightmare that seems well, dream-shared.

Starring unknown actors who are initially unlikable, exhibiting some sort of arrogant, male bonding from a Richard Linklater vehicle, Who Killed Cooper Dunn finds its dramatic footing the further it goes along. The film is about some dudes on a camping trip, waking up to find that one of their brethren is dead (that would be Cooper Dunn, duh). How they deal with the situation turns "Cooper" into a disquieting thriller, the kind of bickering, cover-up genre piece that always seems to suck me in.

In "Cooper", unseasoned director Nino Aldi stages flashbacks and flash forwards, never revealing too much to the audience member. Added to that, he sets up scenes like in a stage play, with his characters gnawing back and forth with each other a la the would-be accused in some whodunit slasher.

Now is Who Killed Cooper Dunn a messy viewing experience? Yup. Is it a layered one however? For sure and that's its saving grace. "Cooper" harbors elements of stuff like A Simple Plan, Bully, and even Scream (that's a broad range). Oh and I almost forgot, I thought it was kind of amusing that one of the personas in "Cooper" was named Dawson. I mean the flick does take place near a few creeks (har har).

Who Killed Cooper Dunn has a gotcha, 180 twist and a cast composed of Nino Aldi, Carlena Britch, Mike Foy, and Paul Elia. Some of the time I was put out by their dialogue readings. Other times a lot poignant, fear speak came out of their mouths so they get a pass. Endorsed "query".

Swiss cheese the movie
sikihac20 December 2022
More holes than swiss cheese going on here, along with the typical fantasy logic and scenerios that are required for all movies and tv, sports, politics etc Lots of absences unexplained and people showing up at the perfect time, that shouldn't be even able to do so. Also how being near and/or witnessing murder is somehow confounded with the witnesses being charged, doesn't work like that in normal honest cases. There has to be some real evidence and logic to the story, that is unless you're talking about gun events, lone gunmen serial killer setups and such, THEN the story can make no sense have obviously planted evidence, fake evidence, tampering, corrupt lawyers, judges, LE, coroners, "experts" and such. Really bad movie and regret watching it, just popped up in the queue really was doing something else and this was in the background so it's not a total time loss. Werid looking dr protag as well, strange chosentribe weirdo. Also they were sure to break the second commandment all the time, offensive use in our faces like so many other movies, gross industry of monsters. The marine had the wrong finger ratio for a biomale as well, more transteincultists. Garbage fire.

Channel surfing & recognized the BWCA
rhibbard-0432330 March 2023
I saw what looked like Knife Lake while flipping through channels (I spent 8 days & nights last summer paddle boarding a 60-70 mile loop solo through the BWCA: fishing, catching some sun, watching Rick & Morty in a dry cozy tent in the pouring rain while hitting the vape pen 😀, etc. - just a great place - a black bear swam 30 feet in front of me crossing one of the lakes in a narrow channel); The movie - absolutely awful. I couldn't watch more than about ~30 minutes. Just dumb in pretty much every way; the plot is nonsensical and the acting is atrocious. The only redeeming thing about this movie is that its a valuable reminder that I'd rather be doing something outside. I gave it a free star because I love the BWCA, but don't waste your time on this.

MUST watch until the END!!!
jessicaleeolas6 October 2022
I did not expect the ending... completely took me by surprise. You must watch until the end!

The picture was gorgeous. The talent was incredible. I loved the sound track. The story felt very complete and satisfying. I honestly have watched it multiple times already because of how great it was. You have to add this film to your MUST watch list IMMEDIATELY!!!!

SO WORTH my time.

Paul Elia absolutely crushed this role. All the actors seemed to have an amazing chemistry.

Nino Aldi played Richie very well. I can't believe he not only co-stared but also wrote, produced, and directed. This is a filmmaker we all need to keep our eyes on. He is going to do incredible things!!!

An Unpredictable Whodunit
waltermanj29 October 2022
This mystery was both thrilling and beautifully captured. No matter how many assumptions audiences may make throughout the story...twists and turns will keep them guessing "Who Killed Cooper Dunn" all the way to the end.

Well told and committed by the cast and crew - lead by multi-hyphenate Nino Aldi. The talent was evident and leaned into all throughout this modestly budgeted indie feature.

As a bonus: Ely, near the Minnesota Boundary Waters, was both a scenic backdrop while simultaneously defining the clear isolation for our unraveling characters.

Would recommend watching with your old lifelong friends!

Creative Twist on a Classic Thriller Plot
kcallaway-1724817 November 2022
A solid thriller that does a good job keeping the audience guessing. Usually in these types of movies the viewer has a pretty good idea of the "guilty" party. This film departed from a standard formula and kept you guessing throughout with unpredictable twists and turns, where it could have easily followed the same formula often used in the genre, instead there was a creative effort to make it its own, unique version of a murder mystery.

Aside for the story, I really noticed the effort made to capture the remoteness of the location with lots of beautiful landscapes and moody camera work to perfectly accentuate and maintain the mood of the film.

Unsuspecting thriller!
alanamonroe10 October 2022
This film was amazing! It was suspenseful and thrilling. It seems like a typical group of friends from high school reconnecting, but then, so much more happens. The twists and turns seemed predictable at first, but I was wildly wrong in my assumption of "Who Killed Cooper Dunn"!

This film kept me guessing till the very end, and after. The acting was believable and the story was not far fetched. This feels like the kind of event that could really happen!

Well done. It is a must watch if you like to solve mysteries and be left assuming that you know the truth.

A great film to watch with friends!

LOVED IT!!!!
bodieostrowski12 October 2022
An unexpected thrill for sure. If you're looking for a good mystery / thriller this is definitely one to check out. I loved the ending and thought it was a great little film. The production value was fantastic, the actors were well cast and all delivered solid performances. This small film surprised me in that it looked bigger and more polished than most small films I've seen lately, the fact it was filmed in practical locations was refreshing. It's nice to see a film set somewhere as remote as this one seemed to be. I highly recommend this film and have added it to the list of my favorites. Nicely done film makers.

Stunning
stevenmonroe-110 October 2022
Who Killed Cooper Dunn is a remarkable, very intriguing, film. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Outstanding direction and script by Nino Aldi, solid production values, sound design, visually compelling cinematography, and very engaging cast, with standout performances by Aldi, Tyler Ritter, and Paul Elia. I found myself drawn into the camaraderie of the friends, each with their own charm, but also their own unique struggles, that catapulted the film to a flashpoint, and shocking twist. Outstanding execution of all production elements. I applaud the cast and crew alike. I look forward to seeing more from Mr. Aldi. Great film.

A Suspenseful Thriller
tessaraepatterson11 October 2022
Couple of things off the bat: beautiful scenic storytelling, engaging plot, and talented performances.

Who Killed Cooper Dunn? Is a gripping suspenseful film that will keep the viewer guessing until the last scene.

Aldi brings a masterful directing eye to the film that captivates and engages the viewer through the entirety of the piece. This, accompanied with a masterful cast, makes the film a delight to watch.

I'm looking forward to more from Aldi, and if his other films are like this one, I'm sure they will be a smash hit. Thank you for your hard work and dedication, as evidenced in this masterful piece of cinematography.
