- The New York lawyer Willam Singer receives three letters, that his father's cousin from Germany wrote to him over the last 5 decades, describing, that she hosted three people in her cellar for more than 60 years. Singer tries to find out, if she wrote the truth.—W-film
- On the 5th of June 2007, the New York attorney William Singer receives a few personal things from his recently deceased sister. Among them he finds a suitcase which belonged to his father and which his sister had been looking after since he died.
Amongst several personal things in the suitcase, Singer also finds a letter and two partly burnt fragments of letters which his father had received from his cousin Josefine Eylandt in Germany. What Singer reads in the letters from 1953, 1968 and 1994 causes him to doubt the sanity of his German relatives: Josefine claims that for decades since the war she and her family have been keeping three people hidden in the cellar of their house in Duisburg.
Even though he wastes no thoughts on the idea that there might be some truth to the story, it nevertheless keeps nagging on his mind. And therefore, in August 2007, he commissions a private detective in Germany to look into the whole affair. And the first findings of the investigation quickly arouse the suspicion that the letters are hiding a story which until today nobody believed could be true.
The documentary "The Eylandt Investigation" follows the enquiries and investigation into Josefine Eylandt´s letters and takes us on a journey whose preliminary climax is the Europe-wide power blackout on the 4th of November 2007, but whose real end won´t be foreseeable for years to come...
