A singer that needs to learn basic acting skills but a decent plot in the beginning
johmil-1837429 December 2021
A series that have many similarities with the old time soap opera like Vita lögner. But somewhat better since the plot have a somewhat more focused theme (a murder).

The acting is ok but subpar from a singer from Eurovision acting a plumber in the series and he really needs to do some acting preparation before he does a scene. Also an actress returning from the states in the show always looks like she is acting. When this two are in same scene it is nearly comical and the only thing you think about is that they are acting. I hope both can do better than this.

... outside of some scenery.. not much to enjoy
bjarias6 August 2021
... started watching thinking this was going to be one of the many worthwhile Scandinavian-crime-dramas have come across recently ... turns out more-clumsy-soap-opera than anything else ... couldn't get far in at all ... had to quit ... a first for Swedish-TV-dramas.

Unbelievably bad
DocHolmberg21 October 2020
Have we officially hit rock bottom now? Author Camilla Läckberg has created a weird mix between an 80's soap-opera and your ordinary murder mystery with dialogue and acting that's everything but natural and up to date. Only for those out there who always wanted to see singer Martin Stenmarck as a hunky plumber.

How in the world could this even get aired?
k-b8526 November 2020
Some of the actors are good and it did have potential...

But when you produce and write a series please make it believable. Policethat are too young to be where they are, storielines that simply are pathetic, and stuff happening that does not make any sence what so ever. Failure in script with what's actually happening in many scenes. It's actually quite embarrassing and painful to watch.

Yes it's a tv-series and not reality of course, but it's a tv series about life, crime and people.

Camilla Läckberg knows better but she totally lost her magic since she must have given green light on all the episode scripts. Swedish television can be so much better then this. Do not waste your time, better off to be cancelled.

Cringe
Ms_Nite21 December 2021
I never write reviews, but I have to with this series.. I think it's one of the worst shows I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot - good and bad. Most of the actors are mediocre, some are good, some plain awful. You know when you eat something sour and it starts hurting in your jaw? Well, this show will give you that many times over. The worst part? I watched 2 seasons, and that's just embarrassing.. So, if you think you are in for some good, Swedish crime: Look further- this ain't it! (I love Swedish crimeseries, BTW.)

Well, that was terrible... with a bunch of spoilers!
TalulaGrey24 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching because I thought this was going to be a show about solving a crime. In some respects it was, and at the same time, it took 15 episodes to solve the crimes. That's one episode short of two seasons. None of the characters are likeable especially Nettan and Louise. How Nettan gets to keep her job is beyond me, talk about lazy and she's such a cow not to mention a blackmailer. And Louise wanted to burn down Joanna's house because she wanted a view! Joanna's brother is a piece of work, and if I had a brother like that, I'd never speak to him. Joanna is a bit of a loser, which is sad because she's the main attraction. She gets dumped only to go after someone who is already married. So overnight her feelings for the old boyfriend just vanish? Add to that she gets pregnant by the new guy ---> but he's actually someone she new back in the day. Talk about convoluted. I'm surprised that Vanessa and Elvis didn't go to jail for telling the police that Vanessa was attacked by the serial killer. Madelene is a liar and tried to get Pernilla in trouble for murder. She stated that she saw Pernilla strangle the girl found in the trunk of Madelene's car. There should be consequences for telling such lies, but in this place, you can say whatever you want and nothing happens. I wanted to find out who the killer actually was and yes, I'm going to tell you.... it was Christian. He was guilty of all four of the murders, and for attempting to murder Stephanie and Joanna. That Felicia is a sneaky wench, full of lies and treachery. They are going to try and bring this back for another season but I'm done. These people are just hateful, nasty people and I can't take any more of their stupidity. The only redeeming quality of this series is the scenery. The quaintness of the town is quite lovely. The camera work was excellent as were production values but over all I cannot give this higher than a 2 out of ten. I do not recommend this series.

Crime series about everything else but crime
callenordstroem19 December 2020
This show is highly entertaining but only because there's just enough space between the scenes to ad-lib each episode. Bad actors delivering non believable characters. And the music is so out of place it just adds to the whole "what-the-hell-am-I-watching". Can how ever be used as a drinking game if you have a bit imagination.

Flawed but very entertaining
Lisahogrelius21 December 2022
Like others have mentioned, the acting isn't great. The dialogue can also be quite unnatural, sometimes with phrases that seem to be badly translated from English into Swedish.

However, I feel that the storyline makes up for those flaws. There are multiple families that are intertwined through relationships and friendships. We get to follow both the adults and teens, therefore it could be interesting for parents and teens to watch together. It's a good mixture of drama, mystery, and romance.

There's a lot going on in the show, yet it's an easy watch. The nature shown in the show is very pretty, featuring lots of greenery and water bodies.

I finished all 4 seasons in less than two weeks!

Bad acting and unrealistic manuscript
vegaisland7124 November 2020
I really like Camilla Läckbergs books but this serie is an unrealistic story with an acting you can wish morefor. With an other director and more time for movierecording this can probably be better, but now- it's speedrecording and the actors are stiff an unnatutal. Even those who has a great acting in other movies and series.

Bad script, bad cut, even worse acting.
MimerQ20 January 2021
It's almost good, as you laugh at how bad it is. The script and story feels like something written by 15-year olds for a school play. And the acting matches with the exception for a few actors, but I guess even the best actor in the world couldn't save it.

I'm not watching another eight episodes to find out whodunnit
laduqesa22 February 2021
I sat through this tripe to find out who the murderer was. Well I'll be blowed, we are not told. We have to sit through another season to know. I promise I am not going to lose another seven hours of my life on this.

I usually love adaptations and scripts with Camilla Lackberg's input. OK, they're samey - overgrown village by the sea, everyone knows each other, loads of eccentrics. Yes, this one had all of it, but the magic had deserted the writers, producers and director. It was simply awful. It couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Was it a detective story? Clearly not as probably only ten per cent of the action was devoted to solving crimes. Was it a teen drama? Nearer, as much of the story was taken up by teenage angst, pregnancy, blogging, break ups, puppy love. Or was it some sort of short soap series? Well, we had adult affairs too and infidelity as well as evil businessmen plotting and loathsome family members trying to cheat relatives out of their inheritance. The series just couldn't work out what it was.

Then we had the utter cliches. Everyone's seen the one where the person who can solve the murder rings up and tells their favoured cop that they have a major clue but they "can't say it over the phone" but need to meet later in person. Well here it was even more ludicrous. The witness came to the cop shop to say that they couldn't tell all here in the completely secure and safe police station, but would reveal what they know later in the deserted, closed-down, dangerous industrial docks.

Then we had the most absurd characters. A cop who looked fresh out of police school leading a murder investigation while the experienced city cop is sidelined. A police station receptionist who sits around with her feet up in her slippers and sits doing make up or surfing all day and neglects her work. A plumber who is totally incompetent. A fake report of attempted murder. No one is punished for this. No one is sacked, disciplined or charged.

The story trails off into side roads and these are simply dropped. Ridiculously, in a town of twitching curtains, a pair of adulterous lovers who have already been caught out once and would be, one would have thought, much more careful, spend a whole weekend together with their cars in full view of the whole town in front of a seaside summerhouse. A state prosecutor is prepared to commit arson and shield alleged criminals. A shop owner removes a listed museum. It is totally unbelievable.

Then the acting. It's just shy of being so bad that it's good. It's not possible to watch for the pleasure of seeing how bad it is but only possible to groan at the fake smiles, anger, attractions.

This series could have had so much going for it. It was set in a lovely part of Sweden, it had a famous writer as consultant and creative, it had an unsolved murder. It should have been exciting.

The second season seems to be airing right now. I'm not going to waste my time. I don't care that I won't discover the murderer. I'm going to save myself some time and look at the official site and find out after the season ends.

Honestly, don't bother with this nonsense.

Unbearable

The nicest thing is the pictures fro Sweden. The rest is horribly slow with totally uninteresting subscenes that add nothing to the story. Could've been told in 30 minutes. Waste of time. Sorry.

Only 4 episodes viewed. Is a "detective on trees", more than a thriller, it is a silly soap opera.

Camilla Läckberg's name drew me to the show
scheaffers276531 January 2023
But the acting is by far the worst of her mysteries put on air. Others who liken it to a prime-time soap opera with a murder thrown in for good measure have hit it spot on.

To view a better representation of Läckberg's genre-and Scandi Noir in general-I recommend watching the 2012-2013 television series, Fjällbackamord. Real detective work-and a plus: real acting in this series is what is missing from the Lyckoviken attempt.

That being said, if you are a Scandophile, as I am, then watching the show for the background and nuances of the Swedish language, would not make it a total waste of time! (Back-handed compliment, I realize...)

Extremely bad
dalimorchadze12 February 2022
It is very seldom one comes across this kind of bad series. I mean it is on next level bad, dull, slow, cliché in a worst way. The main character, polis girl, has one expression on face no matter what happens, of course its not much that happens in this series but I mean she has just one expression as an artist...

This is a terrible soap opera on speed
hovmedia26 July 2023
I never write reviews but this is really really bad. There is so much intrigues between the 10-15 main caracters that this is plain stupid. This is not crime nor drama but a soap opera on speed. There are some murder myseteries here, but it has zero priority and they spend a minute or two on it in each episode. And it not the smartest police work... only makes mistakes to keep the case unsolved to the final episode.

The rest is couples and family members arguing, breaking up and getting together again.

I think the actors are ok, but the script is terrible. Crime series from Scandinavia usually holds a high level but this is more like the restored Jesus Fresco in Zaragoza.

Bad actors
mailbox-248782 February 2021
I wonder if Sweden have some of the worst actors on the screen. Maybe it´s because swedish is my mother tongue that I experience that. Most of them are either vacuous or grinning!
