Heavenly...

For anybody who loves Lully(an extremely important composer in revolutionising and developing french opera and also opera in general) or are introducing themselves to his style, Cadmus et Hermione will not disappoint. Neither will this production. Why it's so lowly rated here I do not know, lack of votes perhaps? The visuals are entirely captivating in how colourfully rich and ornate they are, and the use of candles give a very hypnotic feel to it, leaving you in a trance as you at the same time try to take in everything else. The beautiful music is done justice in the elegant and very authentic orchestral playing, while the choreography is of light-on-your-feet and enchanting quality and also matched equally in the dancing of it. The stage direction matches the dream-like and imaginative feel of everything else that is treating your eyes and ears. The performances are also top-notch, André Morsch is a noble Cadmus and Claire Fefilliâtre a beautiful- in every way- Hermione, in short performances that match their role attributes exactly. Overall, a heavenly production in so many ways. 10/10 Bethany Cox
