Kari Matchett: Councilwoman Jean Rankin

Quotes

  • Guardian : You're not gonna hurt this city anymore.

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : With this power, I can transform the city, sweep away the useless and the weak and make it perfect. And no one will stop me. I'm going to destroy this whole city and rebuilt it from the ground up.

  • Guardian : There is something wrong with you.

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : There's nothing wrong with me. Everything's finally right.

    [she conjures a sledgehammer]

Guardian : [blocking blows with her shield]  You have to stop!

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : I won't be stopped by you.

[dodging a kick, she vanishes and reappears in another spot]

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : You're not strong enough.

  • Councilwoman Jean Rankin : You don't know what you're doing.

Guardian : I know exactly what I'm doing.

[the Super Friends land next to her]

  • Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Yes, the disaster two nights ago was horrible for all of us. But as you can see, I'm back working for this community.

Reporter : I'm hearing that there are still people in the hospital injured from the explosion.

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : All I can say is I feel great. I'm back on my feet, and I'm here to show everyone that they shouldn't let their own weakness hold them back.

Orlando Davis : So you just got better, huh? Just like that?

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : I'm not taking questions from the public right now.

Orlando Davis : I watched you leave the hospital. You get some fancy treatment and get better? What about my brother? What about all the people in that hospital?

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : I want to help the people of this community. I want to help you pull yourselves up by your own bootstraps.

Orlando Davis : It's not us who are the problem, it's you and the whole system that supports you. The same system that puts us down while it tells us to pull ourselves up. People deserve better.

  • Doctor Parson : You inhaled a great amount of particulate matter. You just have to rest.

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : [laughing it off]  Resting is not an option. I need to get back to work. I heard about that... what was it?

[her aide shows her his phone]

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : RP-90. That new drug for respiratory issues, you can give that to me.

Doctor Parson : RP-90 is still very much in trials and extremely expensive.

    Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Oh.

    [beckoning him closer]

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Come here. You tell your chief of medicine...

    [coughing]

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : ...that if he wants those healthcare grants approved by City Council, then I get the medicine.

  • Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Things have changed with the Ormfell building gone. Now we can add five new tech companies in there instead of just one. We have a real opportunity, Councilwoman. We need a new vote.

City Councilmember : The people in your district seemed to really need housing.

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : The people in my district don't know what's really good for them. Wouldn't you like to have your whole re-election campaign funded?

City Councilmember : Sure, who wouldn't?

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : [surreptitiously conjuring a stack of cash and placing it on the desktop]  Don't worry about it. That's just the beginning if you vote with me.

  • Kelly Olsen : Councilwoman Rankin, are you okay?

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Yes, I'm... I will be fine. Thank you so much for your concern.

Kelly Olsen : Well, 'cause the hospital's overwhelmed. They've run out of beds, and they really need more equipment and more aid.

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Don't think I would take any bed from anyone here. I'm gonna make some calls. Let's go and open up a bed for one of the good people of this community.

    [her stretcher is wheeled away]

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : Thank you so much for bringing my attention to it.

Kelly Olsen : [Orlando approaches]  Uh, she said she'd help... and she just left.

Orlando Davis : Of course she did. Aren't you friends with Supergirl? She got the council to listen to me about the Ormfell building. Maybe she can help here.

  • Councilwoman Jean Rankin : [pulling up to the ruins of the Ormfell building]  And just like that, it's gone. Now we have a second chance. No building, no commitment to affordable housing. Oh, that treatment I got has me feeling amazing and hungry. I would kill for a sandwich right now.

[as her eyes glow blue, her aide falls unconscious and a sandwich materializes in her hands]

Councilwoman Jean Rankin : I did that. I... I thought about it and then it appeared. I could transform this entire neighborhood.
