Before watching this movie, expectation is set on high note for the strong acting team from Singapore & Malaysia. The frequent marketing campaign has also stimulated the interest of crowd towards the movie.
With this, we walked into cinema expecting a first-class Singapore movie that could display the distinct media culture while fusing it with western formula. In the story, both Christopher Lee & Fann Wong are to get marry for catching the limelight and hence clinching to more advertisement fee. At the same time, this couple is announcing their marriage right in between the showing of this movie. The sense of commercializing is just too stiffening. This typical storyline also restricts room of flexing a more touchable stories.
Beside, some scene is definitely a cinema NO-no scene, where flashy & vivid background shown at the big cinema screen to create visual uncomfort to audiences. Knowing this TV host show would cut in & out for so many times, the director may want to spend more time on touching up the background.
Then, the acting of couple has not failed, but not been well challenged. Bringing in 小黑 only stirs the coherent tone of Singapore culture. To compare against Jack Neo'e movie, "The Wedding Game" is very non-Singaporean, a movie that lacks a distinct culture that could impact audience.
While being picky, the film does offer good laughters at certain points. If the good dots are better connected, the film would probably mark up Singapore standard in film making, also breaking through the typical Jack Neo style.
I would give a 3-rating now, but hoping to see a 7-rated movie soon.
