Rosamunde Pilcher in post Nazi Germany
DLochner3 December 2021
Black GI loves young country women: The six-part series tells of the encounter between US soldiers and Germans in the post-war period and a little-discussed episode in post-war history: the encounter between the German population and the GIs stationed there - and the love affairs that arose from it.

The cast is great. Elisa Schlott convinces as an energetic Marie, who is torn between the desire for a self-determined life and the obligations that she has entered into towards her family and her best friend Erika Strumm (Franziska Brandmeier).

The story is a little reminiscent of Rosamunde Pilcher. Too many clichés. The story of a young woman who stands between two men and has to choose between heart and reason has simply been seen too often to be really interested. Almost every twist is predictable. The story is told too gently but still worth seeing. A little surprise from German films.

Surprisingly good acting work

The series is a.well done, with "German Gründlichkeit". I would give the story 7 stars, but the acting work almost 9 stars, overall thus 8.

It is well worth to watch, altough it puts nothing news on the screen. There are some typical clichés, but that can be expected with series like these. The cast is very well chosen, and their acting work is suprisingly good for a German production. Also is the ambiance is very nice.

A must see.

Harmless entertainment with little much to offer
jussit-289588 February 2023
There's not much that really annoys me about this TV-series. It looks just as good as the histocial British TV-series of today that are generally well-liked. Acting is possibly a notch better than what I expected. It's decent in my opinion. All in all it's just harmless entertainment that one forgets quickly afterwards.

As far as the story and plot goes, there's nothing new here. As said in a review by Dlochner, it's your average story of a young woman between two men. The same story has been made so many times before that it's a cliché for sure. It's like watching an Agatha Christie's TV adaption where a young and rich heiress falls in love with a poor but good-hearted boy. You know the story already so you can just sit back and enjoy the visual aspect.

I just watched the TV-series but like I said before, I'm already starting to forget it. Nothing much about it is memoriable. It simply left me empty. I didn't mind watching it when there was nothing better on TV, but I could've stopped watching it at any time.

I hope that there will never be a season 2 for this because I dread to think of a situation where I would feel that watching the season 2 is better investment for my time than watching anything else.

Some Uncomfortable Viewing
crumpytv27 September 2022
I feel that this drama is a couple of episodes too long. It was going along nicely but the last couple really dragged.

No woke here. There is a lot of rather uncomfortable racist viewing and a severe amount of racist language.

As the story unfolded towards the end I was getting very frustrated and angry towards a lot of the characters. It seems everyone had something to hide and would go to whatever ends required to keep it that way. I pacified myself that just desserts would be handed out in the end, but they were not. The characters who had committed the worst offences did not get their comeuppance, or at least there is no evidence to suggest they did.

The last episode reminded me of Roots (1977).

The ending is totally implausible and unconvincing.

The first 15 minutes are tough to come by.

It starts off with a Brit and a German woman trying to sound American. Reomy D Mpeoh's American accent eventually gets better but never quite believable and makes his casting choice questionable.

I gotta disagree with another reviewer's opinion saying the cast is great. It feels like the cast is the weak link in this project. Elisa Schlott isn't doing her best work either. She mostly sounds monotonous.

The beautiful cinematography and a refreshing musical score by Martin Stock are highlights of "Ein Hauch von Amerika".

There are some good, some great and some not so great scenes in this mini series. Overall it feels like there's a lot of unfullfilled potential.
