Virtual Tours of Italy
Having viewed this short "Trieste, Summer, 1939" at the virtual 39th Pordenone Silent Film Festival's "The Urge to Travel" program and as the eighth travelogue therein, the spectator seeing it from whatever part of the world their connected through the internet from, finally gets to do some "armchair traveling" to Italy twice over with this one. It's basically nothing more than pretty black-and-white photography of landscapes, a phantom ride through a tunnel, a panorama shot and some view of people playing in the water. There are some well composed shots foregrounded by foliage, though, which creates a silhouettes backlighting effect. And José María Serralde Ruiz's score is excellent throughout the festival's program, and it works especially well with a film such as this one that is uninterrupted by intertitles. Now, onto London.
