Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for David Fincher's upcoming series Mindhunter. The series is set in 1979 and it follows two FBI agents, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), who are trying to understand the mindset of serial killers.
In this teaser, right before Holden goes to meet with a serial killer, Bill scares the shit out of him when telling him what will happen if he brings a gun into the room with him when meeting with the killer. He tells him that the killer will take the gun, kill him, and then have sex with his face. It's a very dark kind of humor, which is something that Fincher is great at.
The series is an adaptation of the 1996 nonfiction novel by Mark Olshaker and John Douglas‘ called "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit." I've provided a description of that book below the teaser.

"Are criminals born or are they formed?"
It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that David Fincher is still mining this territory. I mean, the man did bring us Se7en, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, Gone Girl and "House of Cards," a roster chalk-full of bonafide psychopaths in one way or another.

Late last year, we learned that David Fincher and Charlize Theron were teaming up for a Netflix series called Mindhunter. Fincher has cast Holt McCallany (Lights Out) in the lead role; the actor previously worked with Fincher on films such as Alien 3 and Fight Club.
Mindhunter is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. It offers the behind the scenes story of some of Douglas’ highest-profile cases, which includes the man who hunted prostitutes in Alaska, a child murderer in Atlanta, and Seattle’s Green River killer.
According to Deadline, the series will be set in 1979, and that “centers on the inquisitive and skilled FBI Agent Bill Tench (McCallany). Along with fellow serial killer investigator in the behavioral science unit, FBI agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), Tench interviews serial killers to help them solve current murders.

It is sometimes impossible not to wonder who could look at the television landscape of today and decide that we really need more police procedural dramas. But, decide they do, and Netflix is no exception. For that reason, Mindhunter is on its way, and the streaming platform has moved closer to bringing that project to fruition, having begun casting for the series.

Netflix might add another drama to its slate of original series. The streaming video-on-demand platform has reportedly picked up the serial killer-themed show Mindhunter, developed by House of Cards director and executive producer David Fincher alongside actress Charlize Theron.
The Mindhunter series is based off the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker and former special agent John Douglas. The book tells the backstory of Douglas’ methods for profiling and catching some of the most notorious serial killers, like the Atlanta child murderer and the Seattle Green River Killer Gary Ridgway. Douglas is already a familiar name in the film industry, as various TV and movie characters have been based off him (like Jack Crawford in Silence of the Lambs and Will Graham from Hannibal).
According a report from Deadline, producer Jennifer Orme Erwin originally brought the Mind Hunter book to Theron six years ago.

David Fincher and Charlize Theron are joining forces to produce a new Netflix series Mindhunter. It's based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshanker, about Douglas's 25-year career tracking down serial killers. Fincher also has a history of tracking down serial killers, or at least directing actors who are playing characters who are tracking down serial killers. (We're talking about SE7EN. Oh, and Zodiac. And a few others.) And Charlize has had her brush with serial killers by playing one in Monster, so we can be sure the duo is well-suited to their new series. Mindhunter launches as Netflix continues in its aggressive goal to launch a new series every week. God help us, there's too much TV, and we love it.
