Leaving you wanting more from the writer
nfowler3515 February 2009
I didn't know what to expect when the film began, but the narration was great, following the life of a hit man that was definitely not professional, but got the job done was refreshing and entertaining. Hit-man movies with all the unrealistic drama is boring. There was comedy and twists. The characters were creative and realistic - every day common people make the film more believable and interesting. It may be low budget, but King's idea to make this sort of a film shows his creativity for a more unique kind of movie experience. Looking through the eyes of a common thug, or maybe not? I can't wait to see what he has in store for us viewers in his next film!

A Coen-esquire take on a hit-man movie
moviesnguns4511 February 2009
When I first started watching this movie it reminded me of Goodfellas with the way its narrated. Then as the movie went on I realized that this is very much like a Coen brothers type of movie. It really reminded me of The Big Lebowski. Unlike those other hit-man movies where the guy does karate and stuff this guy can't fight for beans. He repeatedly gets beat up and makes tons of mistakes while trying to do his job. You definitely can tell its a low budget independent film but the story was good and a lot more entertaining than a lot of movies I've seen. I really liked how the Colt 1911 was highlighted and the praise for the great weapon that Sam Colt invented. Overall I found it to be a really entertaining movie regardless of the low budget.

The Bourne Identity it is not!
surfriderart13 February 2009
This is an all together different kind of movie than the current assassin movies like The Bourne Identity. With movies like Bourne you have a super fast paced action film with a million quick cuts and shaky cam for that reality TV feel. Just a Job is something more like you would have seen made in the 70's. I think if they could combine the two types it would be so much better for the film world. This film has no stars and no budget but tells a nice simple story of an ordinary man who ends up doing extraordinary things. Bourne has everything from huge box office talent to a 100 million dollar budget, yet it could take a step back and look at little independents like this one and remember the most important thing is story.

After watching this movie I just wonder what the makers could have done with a budget and some real acting talent. Just a Job is a very entertaining independent film with a great score that makes it reminiscent of the movies made in the 70's.

A film like they used to make em'!
beezle-64 February 2009
It was an absolute pleasure to work on this film. Great director, cast and crew and from start to finish, just a really fun film to watch. Shot on location in just about every corner of Southern California, Just a Job rolls right along with a 1970s vibe and has a perfectly-crafted soundtrack and engaging score. The characters are gritty, real and memorable. From the bumbling lead character to the Russian Mafia bosses to the whores; on the wild streets of skid row to the gorgeous shores of Laguna Beach, director KC King tells an intense (yet hilarious at times) story that twists and turns and barely lets you up for air.

If you are a fan of solid independent film-making you will thoroughly enjoy ... Just a Job!

Honest look at life in the other lane...
expoair4 February 2009
It's not the fast lane, it's not the slow lane and it is surely not the uneventful lane. The life of a regular guy turned hired hit-man is believably portrayed here in King's "JUST A JOB". Narrated by an honest, bored with life lead man, Phredd -played by Brian "Phreddy" Phillips, the film gives a quite brutal and unique perspective of a guy who seeks more excitement out of life and becomes entwined in the cold world of paid killers. The thing is, Phredd still seems somewhat bored even though he goes through several "close calls" and excruciating situations.( Much of what lends the complete realism to the film. ) He has almost become complacent in his descent into what he hoped to be an interesting career change. The movie has a refreshingly different flavor than your typical Hollywood hired, gunman flik. The narration and dialog teeter-totters between hilariousness and straight faced, chilling reality. It is never what you expect and none of the characters are predictable. We have been chomping at the bit for a follow up or even a sequel to this fine reel. Bravo !

A must see film
dmrotts16 February 2009
This is what Indie Film is about! This film was shot over time as money would allow, from a Writer, director, cameraman, editor, actor, etc.(you get my point) using friends, family and acquaintances on a minimal budget. It shows what can be done when someone like King has Vision and unrelenting drive. I can only imagine what he could do with a real budget and equipment. Just a job blows away much of what is currently given unbelievable funding and resources. This film flows with superb cinematography, editing and musical score. Just a job hooks you from the beginning, and never lets you go, no catch and release here. I am sure this is not the last time we will hear from King and his crew.

Who knew killing could be so much fun?
specialladyfriend3430 January 2009
A friend of mine took me to the premiere of this movie and I had a blast. I've been to a few premieres and a number of film festivals but this was the first one with an open bar. After mingling with all the people involved we went and watched the film. With independent films you never know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by what a really good movie it was. it reminded me of movies like Pulp Fiction, where there is a serious angle to it but also some good humor. I really liked that the hero is a big beefy guy who had no qualms taking his shirt off through the whole movie. I found myself laughing at how comfortable he walked around half naked. The story really held me and I just had a good time watching it.

Great Fun!

This movie was a blast! I enjoyed the irony of Freds' lukewarm attitude toward his dangerous occupation. Kings' take on the not so glamorous side of being a "professional" hit-man is a laugh and a half. The film is a reflection of Fred. It doesn't take itself too seriously. I get a real Tarantino feeling from the story, love and crime all mixed up together making the crime seem, well, forgivable. Fred humanity including all of his flaws is laid out. He's not dapper or slick. His ducks are not in a row. Through his lack of planning things have a tendency to go awry, quickly. It reminds me of "True Romance" in the end. I hope that KC King will continue this story as a series. It definitely has sequel potential!

This will be an up and coming directors "classic, must have" films!
jerryjmorris22 January 2009
This film was well written and well directed. Although, this film had no major funding, it was a great motion picture. Good character building, good plot and the film really moved along. It featured some great elements that is usually found in multi-million dollar films. I could really appreciate the directors vision and classic story telling. This isn't "Reservoir Dogs", but it is gritty and well done. This story of a man wanting to do something different with his life and turns toward the dark side of life is something we can all relate with. That is key, almost everyone can relate to being bored with work and trying something new. When Mr. King makes it big, everyone will have to have this in their collection. Good job K.C., keep up the classic Hollywood story telling.
