Director Till Kleinert worked as an Assistant Director on the short film The Boy Who Wouldn't Kill (2009) by Linus de Paoli. Linus de Paoli worked as an Assistant Director on this film. The suitcase gag at the end was suggested by him as part of his obligation to make sure that there are at least three funny moments in the film. Linus and Till are in the same year at their film school in Berlin.
The big scene in the field at the end of the film was shot over the course of three days only at dusk and dawn, using locals as extras. The real-life owner of the field, who runs an organic agricultural company in the area, can be seen in close-up near the beginning of the scene - the camera focuses in on his blue eyes.
As an effort to make the film look and feel not too polished, the filmmakers neglected digital color correction in favor of old school lab processing and color timing. The film was blown up at Schwarzfilm in Switzerland from grainy 16mm negative to 35mm without using a digital intermediate.
