This is what this series needed

I had said on another review how much I hated the Darlene/Ben storylines and this two set of episodes are no exception. I said that their storylines makes me think of Darlene/David storylines and how they'd drag the original "Roseanne" down. They just had better storylines to make up for the endless Darlene/David saga playing out. And I said that this series didn't really have that going for them. A lot of "The Conners" episodes are forgettable, none really stand out or stick with you. This episode is an exception.

It was nice seeing Molly again. Unfortunately it looks like we won't be seeing her character again since the series just killed her character off due to brain cancer. I'm disappointed they didn't bring back Molly's dad and sister. But again, we might be dealing with two people that no longer act or just weren't interested in coming back.

Becky falling off the wagon is an amazing storyline and it's a damn strong storyline. Lecy's doing a great job with it. This is the strong type of storylines needed to cover up any weak areas in the show. And again, this makes me think of the original "Roseanne" series where they did a lot of storylines where I feel like people could relate to them--whether it be financial problems, being in an abusive relationship, etc. And it was also nice seeing scenes where Jackie acted like she had sense. I might've said this on other reviews but I truly miss seeing Jackie acting like she has her stuff together versus acting like there's something wrong with her.

Here's hoping Darlene decides to dump Ben and goes to Hawaii anyway. I know I can relate to a storyline where you just need to get away from it all. Yeah, I realize everything bringing you down and stressing you out will be there when you come back. But everybody needs a break and lot's of people will never be able to get one. Doesn't matter if it's being able to take a vacation* or just being able to go through a spell in life where things are actually running smoothly.

*I realize something like this would probably be a dividing point between people that watch this series and "Roseanne". It really seems like the characters didn't have very much fun. The Conners rarely took trips and it seems like a couple of vacations included piggybacking on other peoples vacations. Dan and Roseanne got to go to Vegas because of Nancy and Arnie. The Conners took a vacation with the Tildens in their RV. And the family got to go to Disney World for a storyline that only occurred because ABC was having a lot of their shows promote Disney. Halloween was the only time they ever really got to have fun so that's why I can look the other way instead of saying "Struggling people shouldn't ever have any fun. They need to be working on bettering their lives."

Back to the episode, Ben never should've moved into the Conners house to start with. This isn't the original "Roseanne". And at least David had a legitimate reason for the family taking him in. Roseanne truly felt sympathetic towards David for living with an abusive mom. It's just cringeworthy to have a boyfriend moving into your dad's already overcrowded house. Idk why Darlene keeps wanting to drag him back to the house since they had that little blow up and he's living at his hardware store at the moment.

Anyway, I truly hope the series can keep up with telling strong stories like Becky's storyline. If they go that route, I can see the series lasting for a few more seasons. If the Darlene/Ben nonsense continues and you have weak storylines that can't make up for it, yeah, I can't see the show going past a 4th season.

Not sure why they felt the need to kill Molly off after one episode back, but it did add some drama to the show. Still not one of the better episodes the show has had though.
