- Homes are being burgled in Ystad and three neighbours form their own vigilante group. Soon Wallander is convinced the group have committed a double murder, although no bodies have been found.
- Disgruntled residents on an estate which is frequently burgled form their own posse and nab a burglar, Polish immigrant Jarek Kozyra, who one of them,Olle,beats up and leaves for dead in the woods, torching his car. When Jarek's wife reports him missing she gives Wallander his mobile phone, on which he finds a picture of a dead woman, taken in a house Jarek robbed. Is she perhaps Olle's wife, supposedly staying with her mother but actually missing herself. As Wallander bonds with Katarina's son over a game of football, soccer holds the answer to the case.—don @ minifie-1
- A wave of residential burglaies is raging in Ystad. A group of neighbours in the affected area, decide to take matters into their own hands and form a vigilante group to guard the streets at night. During a Nattvandring, they identify a suspect and subject him to a severe beating.
The day after, both the man and his car have disappeared. The police receive a complaint from a desperate Polish woman who says that her husband is missing. The details are is taken but the case is given low priority. Wallander decides to dig deeper, and soon sees a possible solution where the evidence leads to a close-knit group of residential neighbours. The missing man's body is still missing with no clues, however Wallander discovers horrific images of a dead woman on his phone.
