- The Doctor tells Karvanista that it hasn't won. She and Yaz are hanging upside down from a gravity bar, over a sea of acid. Karvanista points out that the bar will release them in 79 seconds, and they'll fall into the acid. In four minutes time the entire planet will be engulfed by a nearby red star, and if they try to escape than the Kill Disk drones will kill them if they try to escape. Meanwhile, Karvanista is traveling to what in the future will be known as the final hours of planet death.
Karvanista's hologram disappears, and Yaz complains that the Doctor accidentally broke up Karvanista's drone guards when they were trying to break into its operation, and everything else that went wrong. As the cuffs on their ankle cut out, the Doctor spins up and grabs the gravity bar, and has Yaz do the same. The Kill Disks open fire, and the Doctor activates the grav bar and they fly off with the Disks in pursuit. The cuffs are from the Doctor's pockets, but the voice activation to open them doesn't work.
A geyser of acid shoots up, destroying the Disks, and the bar breaks in half. They spot the TARDIS on an outcropping below, and they both slide off the bars and fall into the TARDIS and land on a cushion. The Doctor finally triggers the voice release on the cuffs, and pilots the TARDIS to Earth to stop Karvanista.
In 1820 Liverpool, Williamson and Wilder are inspecting a dig site where tunnels are excavated.
When Stonehouse, the owner, arrives, Williamson talks to him and says that he's employing men who wouldn't have jobs. When Stonehouse says that the tunnels make no sense, Williamson says that the tunnels are for what lies ahead. He tells Stonehouse that the cataclysmic and impossible lie ahead.
Two hundred and one years later, Dan is Lewis giving a tour of the Liverpool Museum. Museum curator Diane comes in and talks to Dan privately, and tells him he has to stop pretending to be a guide. She warns that Dan will be banned if he does it again, and makes sure they're still on for Halloween drinks. Diane insists that it's not a date date, and goes back inside.
On the TARDIS, the Doctor tries to navigate the vessel to Earth but can't. She's hit with a psychic connection, and Swarm tells her to watch. Two guards from Division, En Sentac and K-Toscs teleport onto a planet, and confirm that the prisoner Swarm's incarceration system is active, and they're on the remnants of the Battle Rage battleground. They approach the imprisoned Swarm and confirm that the prison is still secure. Swarm taunts En Sentac, saying that he's training a rookie when he's been training to take his place, but En Sentac insists that it's not true.
The incarceration system shuts down and Swam paralyzes the two guards with its mental powers. It breaks fear and psychically shatters En Sentac, and absorbs the body parts into itself. Swarm. Swarm says that it's renewed at last, and says that it waited and planned, and now it's going to execute. It easily destroys K-Tosc's gun, disintegrates her, absorbs the particles, and taunts the Doctor, well aware that they are psychically connected.
On the TARDIS, Yaz points out a black goo on the floor of the TARDIS. The Doctor sonics it and then says the TARDIS is fine and everything is fine, and she'll be on Earth in a few moments. She checks the sensors and tells Yaz that they'll be arriving on October 31.
Dan is giving out food from the Food Bank. He goes inside and his co-worker Wilma tells him to take some food. Dan says that there are people who need it more than him. Wilma sees something outside but Dan looks out and doesn't see anything. As he and Wilma lock up, someone watches them.
As night falls, Dan goes home. Trick-or-treaters come by and Dan hands out the last candy. Once the children leave, Dan closes the door. A man arrives, drinking beer, and Dan refuses to give him candy. Dan points out that the man isn't even wearing a costume, and tells him to go off. Dan then checks the refrigerator and cupboards and finds them empty.
Karvanista hacks his way through the front door and tells Dan to kneel, and submit or die. The alien tries to hypnotize Dan to obey him, but Dan casually shrugs off the influence and tells Karvanista to leave. Karvanista wonders what's wrong with Dan, who says that Karvanista's dog-like face is "cute". The alien fires its weapons, putting Dan in a stun cube.
The TARDIS lands on the street nearby, and the Doctor realizes where they are. She picks up alien weapon traces nearby, and she and Yaz find the front door of the flat open. They go inside and find the place torn up, and traces of the stun cube on the floor. The Doctor figures Karvanista was there, grabs Dan's laptop, and finds traces of Karvanista's ship cloaked ship having left orbit. She gets multiple traces, zooms out, and confirms that there are seven billion Lupari ships-- Karvanista's fleet--heading there. The Doctor and Yaz realize the laptop isn't Dan's, and they drop it and get out as the flat shrinks to the size of a matchbox due to the booby trap on the laptop.
The next day, the Arctic Circle, a couple are in their house bantering when an alarm goes off. They go to the garage and find a drone hovering there. The couple says that they were told it would never happen except in the gravest of emergencies. The woman smashes it and they go back to eating.
Dan wakes up in an electrified cage, and Karvanista tells the "animal" to be silent. Karvanista says that he's taking Dan off-world, and shows Dan the view of space outside. Dan asks why, and Karvanista says that Dan is ultimately meaningless, and Dan figures that Karvanista won't kill him because he already could have. Irritated that Dan has sussed out his intentions, Karvanista storms out.
The Doctor confirms that Karvanista left a compression bomb behind, and is deliberately leaving them traces. Claire runs up and says that she's met the Doctor in her past, and didn't know they would be there. The woman doesn't seem sure about what happened or why she's there. The sonic warns that the Lupari fleet is closer, and the Doctor and Yaz go into the TARDIs. They realize that the door has moved.
Outside, Claire stares at the TARDIS exterior and tells herself that she has to go home.
The Doctor and Yaz scan for Karvanista's ship and set a course. Ducking under the console, the Doctor claims she's checking the earlier malfunction. Yaz figures that the Doctor is hiding something about Karvanista and why she tracking him.
The sensors reveal that Karvanista's ship is covered in temporal residue, and the TARDIS is pushing through it. The Doctor figures that something is wrong.
Claire walks home down the street, and a Weeping Angel appears ahead of her. She tries to move around it and fumbles for her keys. When she looks away for a moment, the Angel moves toward her but freezes when Claire looks back. Claire knows that she mustn't blink, drops her keys on the ground, and fumbles for them without taking her eyes off the Angel. She gets the keys and tries to put them in the lock without looking. When she looks away for a moment, the Angel moves right toward her. Claire blinks, and the Angel kills her.
On Space Observation Post Rose, Observation Officer Vinder makes a status report that there's no change in status. He thanks his superior for letting him see the nebula outside. Once Vinder signs off, he detects something from the Thoribus Trifecta. The computer detects an anomaly, just as an energy wave sweeps through the system, disintegrating Thoribus Minor. The wave sweeps toward Rose, and Vinder sends out a distress signal.
On an isolated house next to the ocean, Swarm looks in on a couple's bedroom. It comes in and scans the bed. The man, Jan wakes up, tells his wife Anna not to touch anything, and then disintegrates. Www backs out the bed horrified, then tells Swam "Thank you", and her skin dissolves revealing an alien similar to Swarm, but female. Swarm tells Azure that he's missed his sister.
The TARDIS materializes on Karvanista's ship, and the Doctor and Yaz emerge. The Doctor disables the ship's security system, and sends Yaz to find Dan while she confronts Karvanista. The Doctor goes to the bridge and finds Karvanista, who says that he doesn't have time for her. The Doctor sonics the ship and Karvanista's weapon, immobilizing them, then tells him the Lupari invasion is off. Karvanista has no idea what the Doctor means, and then tells Karvanista to tell her everything he knows about the Division.
Yaz finds Dan, introduces herself, and works to free Dan. She explains that her traveling companion has a ship and they can take Dan back to Earth, and releases Dan.
Karvanista tells the Doctor that he can't say anything about the Division. The Doctor points out that Karvanista is the only Division operative she's found alive. A call sign for a Species Recall is going off, and Karvanista explains that the Lupari are species-bonded to humans, one-on-one. The Doctor realizes that Karvanista is saving Dan, because Dan is bonded to him. Karvanista doesn't like Dan, but he has to save him. The Doctor realizes that the seven billion Lupari are coming to save the seven billion humans populating Earth.
When the Doctor wonders what the Lupari are saving the humans from, Karvanista says that the Flux is coming. Karvanista explains that it's a hurricane ripping through the structure of the universe, disrupting every particle. They don't know for sure how it started, but it's already underway.
Vinder confirms that three more planets have been destroyed, and the Flux approaches Rose. Vinder sends out a signal that he's leaving his post, and ejects just before the Flux destroys Rose.
Karvanista says that it doesn't know where the Flux came from. The Doctor frees up the engines, and Karvanista explains that his ship hit a time flux and he came to Earth a few hours before the rest of the Lupari fleet. The fleet plans to rescue the humans, and was designed to create a long-term survival structure. Dan and Yaz arrive and Dan says that humanity doesn't want the Luparis' protection.
The security systems come back on-line, and the Doctor tells Karvanista that they're not done and then tells the others to run. She joins them as Karvanista fires his weapon at them, and they get to the TARDIS and go inside. The door has moved again, and the Doctor dematerializes the ship and gives Dan his miniaturized ship. The Doctor tries to locate the Flux, and wonders why she doesn't know about it... and wonders who else does.
Thirty trillion light years away, the Sontaran Psychic Surveyor Kragar concludes his assessment and reports to his superior Kev. Kragar admits that his mission has withered him, and reports that the Flux is imminent. He forecast vast bloodshed and says that they have to be ready to take advantage of it. Kev admits that he finds himself excited.
The TARDIS materializes in deep space at the edge of the solar system, after the Doctor had the TARDIS track the events. She opens the door, and admits that there's an impressive view outside. The Cloister Bell rings, and the Doctor tell Yaz and Dan that it's tolling because the TARDIS is worried. The Flux is sweeping in through space, destroying every particle it comes in contact with. The Doctor has a psychic vision of the Flux destroying planets, wiping out billions.
Recovering, the Doctor tells her companions that she can feel the universe breaking. She finds herself in another mindscape, and Swam appears and says that they were "efficient" and the Doctor has no memory of their encounters. Swarm talks about how they fought multiple times, and now they will fight their final fight .
The Doctor comes out of her vision, and the Flux heads toward them. Going back inside the TARDIS, the Doctor confirms that the Flux is heading toward them. The Flux destroys everything in its path chasing the TARDIS. The Doctor contacts Karvanista and tells him that the Flux is right behind them, and they're heading to Earth. Karvanista says that the fleet is only on the edge of the planet and doesn't have enough time to evacuate the seven billion humans.
Diane waits for her date with Dan. She hears a woman's voice tell her to come inside of a nearby house. Diane is compelled to walk inside, and the door opens. At light shines out, and Diane goes inside and finds Azure waiting for her... and says that they're going to have fun with Diane.
The Doctor sends Karvanista a formation plan for the fleet ships, and realizes the TARDIS is being swept into the flux. Karvanista has the fleet undertake the Doctor's pattern, encasing Earth. The Doctor tries to pilot the TARDIS behind the shield, but she can't overrun the Flux. The Flux breaks in, and the Doctor breaks the console open and unleashes the Vortex energy into the Flux. The Vortex energy has no effect.
Kev orders an attack.
