“I mean, there’s just nothing that can prepare you for the experience of Drag Race, because it is an experience of its own,” Season 16 queen Q said during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders TV: Documentary + Unscripted awards-season event.
After 16 seasons, MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race still manages to keep contestants and viewers on their toes — even when they’ve been vying for a spot for years, like Season 16 queen Sapphira Cristál.
“I auditioned for RuPaul’s Drag Race 11 times, and so I had a lot of time to prepare,” she said, explaining that each rejection only made her want it more. She used every year that passed as an opportunity to improve her craft in some way — whether it be her looks, her dance moves, her sewing even her mental health.

Nick Taylor and Cláudio Alves watch and recap RuPaul’s Drag Race season sixteen. This week, it’s time for the grand finale…
Look at those ponytails! Sasha Colby's impact is immeasurable.
CLÁUDIO: Better late than never, amirite? Well, even if I’m not, please pretend.
Many days have passed since season sixteen drew to a close, with Taiwan goddess Nymphia Wind crowned America’s next drag superstar. It was a conclusion I wished for but wasn’t expecting, thinking Philly had the win secured up until those final minutes. After all, nothing in the season’s edit positioned the Banana Buddha as a threat, mostly ignoring her to the point she was invisible for a couple of episodes in the middle. On the other hand, Sapphira had winner energy from the go, a notion bolstered by the judges’ unvarying praise and four wins to her name. It’s easy...

Up until Season 10, the award was voted on by the audience, but has since been selected by the cast members themselves, and is buttressed by a cash prize that has ranged from $1,500 to $10,000. Due to a historic tie in Season 16 between Sapphira Cristal and Xunami Muse, there have now been 17 total contestants awarded the title, many of whom have returned to compete at least one more time on various “All Stars” cycles. Which “fan favorite” queen is Your all-time fave? Read on for the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Miss Congeniality winners. Gallery originally published April 2023.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is more than just your typical reality TV competition series; it has evolved into a cultural phenomenon. The show has crowned numerous superstar drag queens who have stomped through the Werk Room, with over 100 queens competing for the highest honor in the world of drag.
Hosted by RuPaul Charles, it celebrates the artistic prowess of drag queens from diverse backgrounds and offers a glimpse into the lives of contestants who courageously share their tales of resilience in the face of discrimination and prejudice.
Since its debut in 2009, the show has consistently delivered iconic television moments, with episodes challenging contestants to showcase their ‘charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.’ Even if one doesn’t snatch the crown as the season’s winner, there’s still the opportunity to secure a coveted place in the ‘Drag Race Hall of Fame’ through RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

Long live the new queen! Season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race reached its dramatic conclusion on Friday, culminating with a lip sync smackdown for the crown.
This time around, it really was any queen’s game. A recent TVLine poll was split almost completely evenly between the final trio — Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane and Sapphira Cristál — with Sapphira edging out her tied competitors by only a single percent. Even the queens’ track records are remarkably similar; Plane and Sapphira each have four wins under their belts, while Nymphia has three.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” just crowned America’s latest drag superstar.
The sickening Season 16 finale followed as all of this year’s competing queens returned to watch Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane and Sapphira Cristál compete for the coveted title — with Wind coming out as the winner following a dazzling lip-synch for the crown to Kylie Minogue’s hit single “Padam.” This win marks the second time an Asian drag queen has won the competition series.
Wind walked away with a one-year supply of Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmetics and cash prize of $200,000. The runner-up did not leave the floor empty-handed, walking away with a $25,000 cash tip. Jane, a polarizing competitor who was both loved and labeled a villain this season, landed in third place and left with another $25,000 prize.

When it comes to making money, Vinny Guadagnino revealed he’s doing quite well with Jersey Shore and its related spin-offs.
The 36-year-old has been an Og cast member since the original show debuted on MTV in 2009.
He’s currently part of the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Season 7 cast, where he often makes inappropriate jokes to castmates or brings out his humor during awkward moments.
He’s appeared on several shows besides the Jersey Shore variety, including competing one season as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
However, he recently revealed that being on the dance competition show, as long as he did, wasn’t worth it, at least in terms of the money.
He even said that he “couldn’t wait to f***ing go” from the DWTS grind so he could make fun of a castmate.

Each week on “Whatcha Packin’,” Michelle Visage interviews the recently eliminated queen, but for the three finalists of season 16 she’s sitting down to chat ahead of the April 19 “Grand Finale.” Sapphira Cristál and Michelle bond over being foodies, mothers, and Sapphira’s embrace of being slew footed. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In her interview with Michelle, Sapphira tells the story of how she started singing opera at the age of 13 by attending a performing and visual arts high school, but she was first inspired when she saw “La Boheme” at the age of four and was enthralled. She goes on to say that drag and opera happened simultaneously for her because she came to drag by way of opera. There is a lot of drag content circling on your device in 2024, but one thing you can’t ignore is any opportunity to watch Derrick Barry on television. Perhaps the most well-known Britney Spears impersonator in the world, Barry has been television gold on multiple “RuPaul’s Drag Race” seasons including the shortlived 2020 reality series, “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Vegas Revue.” Now, Barry and a number of their co-stars from the “Drag Race Live” show in Las Vegas are back with a new spin on that concept, “RuPaul’s Drag Race Live: Untucked.” And, no, surprise, Barry is so entertaining, they genuinely deserve some sort of producer credit.

With a new BBC radio series now launched, Courtney Love is once again proving the power of the adage “go large or go home.”
In a wide ranging interview with the UK’s Standard today, the former Hole front woman puts forth her take on some of the biggest names in the music industry. Let’s just say, Love bites in deep in the newspaper, to quote from her 1998 tune “Celebrity Skin,” to get her pound of flesh from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Madonna and recent Coachella headliner Lana Del Rey.
“Taylor is not important,” the People vs. Larry Flint star says of the superstar.
“She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist,” Love added.
The contrarian opinion on Swift is a big shift from where Love was on the Folklore singer just over two years ago.

Nick Taylor and Cláudio Alves are watching and recapping RuPaul’s Drag Race season sixteen. This week, it’s time for episode fourteen…
Ronan Farrow has that All Stars glow-up.
CLÁUDIO: Just when we were starting to think the season had turned into a two-way race for the crown between Sapphira and Plane, here comes a new episode to shake things up. After years of top fours and a one-time fiver, RuPaul’s Drag Race has returned to a triadic finale, using this fourteenth chapter to boot its fourth-placer, fragilize one of the frontrunners’ bid, and bolster another contender’s narrative. A well-produced piece of television, this game-changer hour felt like a gift to Nymphia Wind fans everywhere, making it look like she might stand a chance after all. Considering her strange edit, I’m skeptical, but this episode gave me some much-needed hope. Were you similarly enthused, or is this season...

Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Trixie Mattel recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s fourteenth episode, two time competitor and veteran “Pit Stop” guest Mo Heart rejoins Trixie for another chatty recap. Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their conversation, Mo shares that they were in love with Xunami Muse this season and expected her to make the final four. Mo also knows Q personally and agrees with Trixie that her looks are “ridiculous” because “the boy can sew,” thinks Morphine Love Dion was sickening “from the moment she walked in,” and that the Sapphira Cristál “stumble” last episode gives the other girls a chance to win.
When it came to this episode, Mo likes the concept of the memoir challenge because it shows who is the good storyteller and sets...

“The People’s Joker,” a scandalous IP-on-acid coming-out comic-book psychodrama, is a movie that has all the earmarks of an underground/ midnight/guerrilla-cinema sensation. Vera Drew, who directed and co-wrote it, plays the title character, a mentally fractured aspiring stand-up comedian who bills herself as Joker the Harlequin. She wears a green wig parted down the middle, white makeup with big jagged dark blotches around the eyes, a razory red lipstick grin, along with a purple jacket and fishnets that make her, in every way possible, a transgressive presence. Onstage, when she puts an inhaler up to her mouth and draws in a breath of Smylex, the feel-happy drug prescribed to her as a child, she’ll let out a cackle of laughter so derisive it sounds like she’s going to fracture her own rib. She’s the maniacal Joker of DC legend, as well as an outlaw parody of...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on April 5 with episode 14 on MTV. Airing concurrently with the main show is its tea-spilling, backstage-focused sister series “Untucked,” now in its 15th season. For this week’s challenge, the final four, referred to as the semi-finalists, developed concepts for a memoir, wrote stories about their lives and then presented those ideas to Matt Rogers in a live podcast interview.
After critiques from the judges, Sapphira Cristál, Plane Jane, Q and Nymphia Wind made their way to the “Untucked Lounge” where Jane and Q were convinced that they were the bottom two. Both girls could not look beyond the negative comments they received from the judges on stage. Jane knew that she didn’t show enough vulnerability in her podcast and Q was disappointed that she didn’t deliver a better look for her book cover photo shoot. On the flip side, Sapphira and Nymphia...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 16 continued on April 5 with the fourteenth episode in RuPaul’s quest to find “America’s next drag superstar.” Previously in episode 13, Sapphira Cristál found herself vulnerable to elimination for the first time in the competition after serving up the judges’ least favorite “family resemblance” in the drag makeover challenge. In the Lip Sync for Your Life, her track record proved too impressive for Morphine Love Dion, lip syncing for the fourth time, to overcome.
Seated at the judges’ dais this week for episode 14 titled “Booked & Blessed” was Emmy winning host RuPaul Charles, longtime bestie Michelle Visage, recurring judge Ts Madison, and journalist Ronan Farrow as the special guest judge.
The queens still vying for the crown are: Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane, Q, and Sapphira Cristál.
Check out our full recap of episode 14 below:
Morphine’s elimination narrowed the competition down to a final four of girls...

You haven’t seen the last of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 16’s eliminated queens.
From fan-favorite art queen Dawn to queen of flips Mhi’ya Iman Le’Paige to our dearly departed Q — who was eliminated on Friday to place fourth behind our three finalists, Nymphia Wind, Plane Jane and Sapphira Cristál — the Season 16 reunion, airing Friday, April 12, is officially an extension of the competition. The 11 eliminated queens of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 16 will compete in a lip sync smackdown for a cash prize of $50,000, TheWrap can reveal exclusively. Who said losing couldn’t be a good thing?
While the move echoes of “Drag Race All Stars” all-winners seventh season, producer Tom Campbell touts the lip sync smackdown as the first of its kind on a regular season of the MTV reality competition series.
“The idea of doing a traditional reunion where people sit and go over the different things that happen during the season,...
