Jerry Trainor is the main reason to watch
Eggoreluckadman17 June 2021
Jerry trainor is as funny as before, Miranda cosgrove and Nathan kress return to their roles with ease. The new additions to the cast will take some time to resonate but so far they seem to fit right in with the rest of the cast. Some jokes land, but some don't, the laugh track is definetely more annoying than the previous iteration.

Pretty Good but with some flaws
thomaspaullindsey17 June 2021
I was a fan of the original iCarly when I was a kid and have good memories of watching it back then. I watched the first 3 episodes of this season and I must say it's good but could be a lot better. Jerry Trainor is great and he really does carry the comedy on the show so far. Miranda Cosgrove and Nathan Kress both naturally fit into their roles pretty well. I'm indifferent towards the other two characters. Harper is funny but she is going to have to settle into her role more. At first I didn't like Milicent at all but she grew on me over time. My main problem with the show so far is some of the dialogue and internet references try too hard sometimes. Also, I don't like that Freddie is still living with his mother. And shouldn't he have a better camera? I know phones have taken over the world but knowing Freddie he should have the most hi-def amazing camera since he's a huge nerd. Also I would think they would be live-streaming on a platform like YouTube or Twitch instead of Instagram since it's a lot better for that sort of thing and much easier to make money. I liked their decision with Sam and having her join a biker gang it makes sense for her character. I'm excited to see more of the show but I really hope there's more to the show then just internet/social media references.

Pretty good, needs time to develop.

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the first two episodes. 3rd was kinda meh. I can tell this show is gonna get alot of negative reviews from people from the right if you know what I mean. I liked Carly and Spencer alot. From what I've seen online people aren't liking freddy cause he isn't nerdy enough but honestly I like this new freddy other than his daughter. Millicent is the character who needs the most work, she's just so unlikable like they are trying to make her the villain. Harper was pretty good and had some banger lines. I like that they are clowning on cancel culture, but also feel they are trying really hard with some of the internet references. But overall the stories are great, just a bit rushed. Definitely needs time to flush itself out.

Has great potential!
kayleewillis-859204 July 2021
So far the show has the same feel of the original but more mature and more open with its dialogue, characters, & storylines! Pretty funny so far as well! I really love the new character Harper! Will always miss and prefer Sam but Harper is definitely an awesome addition/replacement! The show overall is pretty good, of course has room for improvement, but if the given the chance and effort this show could be amazing!

Acting is good, script needs work

I like the chemistry between the characters, but plot often seem inconsequential. Jokes are hit or miss. I like the addition of the adult humor.

Enjoying the revival immensely, except for the kid

Please, PLEASE either get rid of the kid or change her personality! She is way too obnoxious and her delivery is not funny.

There is potential!
aristidispi17 June 2021
As a huge fan of the original show I wasn't disappointed with the first three episodes. I really didn't want this reboot to happen because I though it would destroy ICarly. It may still happen but the first three episodes weren't bad. The second episode was by far the best. The first one was good but the third one was.. Meh. I really like how Carly hasn't changed a lot and that Freddie is still the old Freddie we know and love. Yes.. He isn't as nerdy as he used to be but we will eventually see him more I'm sure. I LOVED Jerry's performance as Spencer. This man hasn't changed a bit. I didn't really like Freddie's daughter.. I hope she changes her attitude because she is like a villain but I'm sure we will see some character development there as well. As for Carlys roommate... She is... Interesting... I really liked some of her lines and I'm sure we will explore her character as we go. I can't wait for this series to continue and I think that it won't disappoint us ICarly fans!

Good. Not great. But good.
shwirth17 June 2021
This was definitely a decent start. The jokes landed for the most part(at least for me) and the original actors seemed to slip right back into their rolls. I enjoyed Harper's character. I think she'll be a lot of fun. Millicent, I could do without. I really hope they don't have her character remain so annoying and bratty. I found myself rolling my eyes every time she was onscreen. Otherwise, a very solid first couple of episodes.

Great for old fans
planet_peletier19 June 2021
If you watched the original show religiously as a tween like me, then this show is honestly great fun. When I heard that Sam wasn't going to be in the show I didn't plan on watching it, since she was always my favourite, but I ended up giving it a go anyway and I'm pleasently surprised. After such a long time since the original ended I didn't think it would have the same feel, but they've managed to replicate it quite well, though it is very modernized (which I personally like). I've only seen the first 2 episodes so far but it seems to be on the right track and hopefully it'll improve further as it goes along.

Exact same show as before trouble is they are now older
kiwigirlnz-0986425 August 2022
It is the exact same show as before the problem is that the actors are older but still have the same situations as before so it comes across as them not acting grownups. The show is stuck as the old show which makes it uninteresting and inmature the adopted daughter to Freddy is just awful it is a horrible imature show that has not grown up with the times.

I feel like we grew up together
Puppyperson18514 July 2021
It's weird I wasn't expecting to like it so much without Sam. It's like bringing me back to a happy place before life got complicated. I love seeing everyone grown up and being able to relate to them as adults. I watched the last episode 3 times. Freddie saying let's get drunk it's pretty cool how we're all adults now.

Where's the tone?
annacoleman15 February 2022
The original show circled around a tone of absurdism that made it timeless and funny for anyone watching. This reboot stripped the heart and quirkiness out of the original show and replaced it with poorly written woke culture. Don't get me wrong, there's a place for representation and being PC but it felt like the entire show is walking on eggshells. Not to mention their one main POC character is an amalgamation of minorities rolled into one. Like a backboard to check all other characters to make sure their jokes aren't problematic. Carly plays like a clueless boy-crazed millennial even though she was once an internet cornerstone. Freddie has an unrealistic life of a 35 year old at a mere 26 years old getting 2 divorces, 2 failed start-ups and an adopted 12 year old who has the same plot relevance as Lucas's little sister in stranger things S3. Jerry Trainor is the only semblance of the original absurdist tone that made the show so lovable to begin with. Writers and director really missed the mark on what made the show work to begin with. Carly and Freddie would have understood internet culture at an insane level starting off so young and with so many amazing opportunities. To take those characters and twist them into lost souls who don't understand internet culture just doesn't hold up in my opinion.

Room for Improvement
teddyburkebryan18 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As with most people, I enjoy the nostalgia reboots bring, and the iCarly reboot is no exception. I loved that much of the decor and props pay homage to the shows Nickelodeon days. I also like how the show has adapted, I think that iCarly live streaming on Instagram keeps the show fresh in a digital era.

Carly comes off as a disjointed one-note character. I feel like her character has no motive for her actions; why did she want to restart the webshow with her boyfriend? Why does she care what one online cyberbully thinks so badly? Carly seems to present herself in an awkward fashion, I'm not sure if this was a deliberate character choice of if Cosgrove hasn't fully found the direction for her character yet.

Spencer's eccentricity remains true to his core character, I felt that the writers did not change his personality at all. Spencer's slapstick humor needs to be toned down a bit more, as it feels quite off-putting when the reboot is striving for a more mature tone.

Freddie comes off as a struggling entrepreneur and a misguided parent. I feel that there are many options the writers could explore with Freddie's character, as he seems to have a very unique set of circumstances living with his mother and raising his adopted daughter. I'm excited to find out what his character arch will be.

Harper is Carly's sassy roomate whose family lost all of their wealth in an unmentioned incident. She comes across as a bit nieve and judgemental, but she definetly seems like Carly's lifeline for moral support. I've really enjoyed her character so far.

Freddie's daughter Millicent needs to be rewritten or removed from the show entirely. Her character brings down the quality of the show overall. I feel that there are better ways to write a manipulate, tech-savvy child without coming across as a spoiled brat. There is nothing redeeming about her personality; she seems to actively enjoy doxing people and humiliating them on social media. I couldn't imagine Millicent would have performed well with test audiences, which makes me doubt any were used during the reboot's production.

I enjoyed seeing recurring characters reappear such as Mrs. Benson and Nora, the psychotic fan that had previously kidnapped Carly and the gang. Nora's character did not mature all all however, which made me question if the writers are serious about making the reboot more refined for an older audience. Nora seemed like a charicature stuck in time from the Nickelodeon sitcom.

Overall, I see a lot of potential with this reboot, I'm really excited to see the direction it goes in. I feel that the first three episodes are decent, but the show is definitely expierecing growing pains. I like the show so far, but I can't say I love it. I think it's worth a watch if you're on the verge of streaming it.

iGrew Up!
spongebobcheer17 June 2021
Carly, Freddy, and Spencer return to the small screen bringing with them laughs, gags, and nostalgia.

Let me start by saying I grew up watching the original series and was excited for the reboot. But mere minutes into the new pilot, I experienced cringe worthy dialogue and even acting that felt off and forced. I waited it out though, hoping things would change.

They did.

ICarly is still a corny, goofball of a show that exists to entertain but comes along with a dose of nostalgia as well. It's fun and idiotic, the characters melt back into their caricatures quite well after some time. New additions Harper and Millicent also mix in well, though personally I feel Harper does as Carly's BFF more so than Millicent does as Freddy's stepdaughter. I have no doubt though that things will develop and smooth out more with time.

It's enjoyable, and I hope it is given time to grow!

This is honestly a role model for any reunion show ever. So well-produced & nostalgic. Even though Sam is not part of the plot, I genuinely enjoy these episodes. Care-free & beautiful!

It was going so well......
rayq-4702918 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like most people here, I grew up with this show and watched every episode numerous times, so it's safe to say that I was excited for the reboot. However, I was also pretty nervous about whether the reboot would overly rely on nostalgia or social media, or if it just wouldn't work like the original did. Watching the first two episodes, I was really surprised at how much fun I was having, and I found myself laughing out loud many times. They had just the right amount of nostalgia, there wasn't as much references to social media as I expected, and most of the jokes landed perfectly. I do have to say, even though it's technically an adult show, it relied on the childish and goofy humor from the original, which I'm not sure is a good or bad thing. It was also kind of off putting seeing the show structured so differently from the original, but I got used to it by the end of the second episode. The characters were mostly good, especially Spencer and Freddie, who were as funny as ever and seemed like themselves from the original show. I'm not sure what they did with Carly's characterization; I found her to be really one-dimensional and she behaved like an angsty teen girl, craving a boyfriend and likes on the internet. This is ironic since she was more mature in the original, when she was actually a teen. Harper was okay, and I didn't really have any issues with her. I found Millicent to be really annoying (no disrespect to the actress), but it was okay since she didn't take up too much screen time. The reboot was going so well and I felt that it had good potential, until the third episode. This episode completely shifted its focus to social media, with a constant barrage of jokes about memes, influencers, cancel culture, and Instagram. I wouldn't have had such a big issue with this, but the jokes were so awful, and barely any of them landed. Also, Millicent had way too much screen time for my liking, and there was some satire and commentary added in this episode that just didn't work at all. Carly saying a curse word and recreating her "interesting" meme unfortunately doesn't save this episode. I obviously know this was just three out of thirteen episodes, but I really hope that future episodes have better writing and aren't like the third one. I just don't want to see one of my favorite shows get ruined! The first episode gets a 7, the second episode gets an 8, and the third gets a 4.

Kind of funny but also cringey

Spencer is carrying this whole show. New characters are terrible and annoying, and even though they're capitalizing on nostalgia they're trying too hard to modernize the show.

This show is way better than I ever expected.
The original is literally my childhood, it was my favorite sitcom ever growing up. I was excited but hesitant on the reboot when it was announced. I'm glad it turned out better than I thought. The new showrunners really know what they are doing and really kept that feeling of the original while being more mature. Also remember, it's been 9 years, these characters are not the same ones we last seen in 2012, they grew up and changed some. I think it's realistic and really interesting to learn these characters again. 10/10.

Spencer is an all star
codybarber-8285726 June 2021
I have enjoyed the first 3 episodes. And just like the originals, spencer makes the show so great! The humor has gotten a tad bit darker as they're targeting adults who watched it back in 2008.

I'm A Parody of What I Used to Be
liammarklh16 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Excuse the cheesy title for this review, I tried to emulate the title cards of each episode in the iCarly vein, and I hope it works. Anyway on with the review.

For starters, as with most people who grew up watching iCarly in the late oughts' and early 2010's, this shows alongside other Nick live action classics helped develop my sense of humor and was a fun and enjoyable watch that shaped me as a person. Even if my sense of comedy and tv tastes have changed, I will always have a place in my heart for the original series and how it revolutionized the cultural landscape of kids' media.

I wish I could say the same for the reboot/remake/sequel or whatever it's trying to be, but I can't in good faith give this show a good review after watching all of season 1 and most of season 2.

To start with, the show's comedy and jokes are very hit or miss and fall flat most of the time. The original show was known for its wacky and random bursts of comedy and even its heartfelt serious moments that made you empathize with and relate to the cast, even if the characters made questionable decisions, you could understand their motivations as they were young kids/teenagers and realized their lesson at the end of each episode, always trying to teach a good moral while telling a funny story.

To put it succinctly, this sequel's comedy is very corporate, derivative and juvenile. It's like a parody of the original show from the 2000's but add in a ton of sexual innuendos and swearing to make it seem as if it's for a more mature audience, which if anything it's not. This can't be for kids because of the reasons I mentioned prior, and it can't be for the adults who grew up with the show because the jokes feel like something out of a bad SNL skit or something an edgy teen would think is cool or hip and it comes off very "howdy doo fellow kids." It tries too hard to seem relevant and up with the times, when in reality it's lame and cringey.

When I mean corporate, it references a lot of other shows from modern pop culture and namedrops a few celebrities here and there as if that somehow makes up for the lack of original skits or comedy. This doesn't have the same creative spark as the original and feels soulless as a result, like old people going through midlife crises trying to get in with the younger crowd, it doesn't mesh well.

The only character worth seeing the show for is Spencer and him alone. Jerry Trainor is the only one who is actually funny on this show and he's still the same wacky older brother eccentric artist he was in the original, but even then, even he can't save this show from the terrible writing.

Carly's problems seem to be that she can never find a cute boy to date or when she does, she manages to mess things up, misunderstands the situation or her friends get in the way of her love life and frankly that dynamic gets old pretty fast. Miranda Cosgrove does her best, but Carly doesn't have much to do in this show other than simp for cute boys or be a girl boss or whatever. I don't get how she's supposed to be a struggling influencer when she has a rich brother and a military father who love her. Is rooming with her new best friend, and for some reason she doesn't appear to have a job outside of iCarly livestreams. How does she make money outside of being an influencer? Does she get paid sponsorships? Her character was alright, but I wish she focused on other things that didn't focus on dating or relationships.

Freddy is the same as always and Nathan Kress does a good job with his character, but much like Carly, his character is not that good either. You mean to tell me that AV tech nerd Freddy who graduated college and went to a top tech school is somehow still living with his mom, broke, had two failed business ventures, two divorces and still manages to raise his stepdaughter on his own? That seems like a slap in the face to his character. Also, why is he working in tech support when he can get any other tech related job in Seattle that probably pays better than his crummy current job, it just makes no sense.

With Harper and Millicent, I have nothing against the actresses, but to me they feel as if they were put in the show just to fill a diversity quota and to replace Sam, which doesn't work at all. Even though Jennette McCurdy quit acting altogether, no one could ever take Sam's place as the comedic foil to Carly's antics and these two can't hold a candle to her at all.

For a show that tries to have diverse messaging and touts itself as progressive, they turned Harper into a sassy, bisexual, aggressively confident black female character. That's not very original given that her character is pretty much a stereotype from the get-go, so yeah...

She feels more like the token black friend to service her white female friend in any rom com, and it shows. The OG show did have romance in it, but those were few and far between and whenever Harper is on screen, all she does is talk about fashion, complain about her exes and how many people she can screw around with and acts wild and crazy whenever wacky stuff goes down (because bi people totally love to sleep around and cheat, totally not another stereotype sigh...)

I also don't like how she seems to antagonize straight people, including Spencer, even if they don't like each other. Imagine if someone said, "those pesky gays" or "those freaky trans people," everyone would be up in arms against that person, but I guess hypocrisy is okay against the straight white male I suppose. Harper is a walking diversity checkbox and that's a shame because she does have her good moments and funny lines, but instead she's poorly written and if you take out those facets of her character, you'd be left with nothing else.

Millicent is the stereotypical bratty, annoying and in your face Gen Z kid character you will see on any kids show, and yes they do mention she is Gen Z as well. She's one of those "mature for her age" kid characters who actively treats the cast like crap half the time and manipulates people into getting what she wants, including Freddy her stepdad. She did grow on me a little, but depending on who you ask, you'll either like her or want to punt her into the sun immediately.

What also kills this show is the forced political/social talking points that seem to crawl into every piece of media these days. Just in the first season one alone they mention "disintegrating democracy", "my body my choice," "feminism and all girl spaces," "non-binary lawyers," "a squirrel who's anti-vax?" and "threesomes." Again, how are we supposed to enjoy this show when every line out of these characters mouths sounds like it came straight from the mouth of a political activist's Tumblr soapbox ranting session.

The OG show never once delved into political topics nor did it ever reference current modern-day celebrities. The original show is timeless for a reason and this new show will become dated almost immediately with how many liberal/progressives talking points they can cram into one episode. Heck they even made two boys that Carly liked into incels just because she didn't want to lead them on and broke up with them, I can't make this up.

Not to mention these characters will do selfish things to each other, but when it doesn't go their way, they try to outdo the other in how selfish they can be just to get what they want. Carly has a date she wants to impress but the others barge in on her date because I guess no one can do their stuff in a different room and Harper has a fashion job interview but has to appease Carly or Spencer and give up her career so they can enact some wacky scheme. These characters make dumb choices and feel out of character half the time with how self-absorbed they can and that's not good writing at all, especially with established characters like these.

As for the cameo characters, if you blink, you'll miss them, that's how important they are to this show's episodic plots. Crazy Nora shows up for a few short scenes and never contributes to that episode's plot at all, Nevel's cameo is decent and it's nice to see other cameos in later episodes, but like I said they're just there to pander to nostalgia and it doesn't work well. These characters only work if they're the central focus of the episode/s narrative and diminishing them to split second scenes does them a huge disservice.

To summarize my rant review, this show has no overarching narrative, the comedy is juvenile at best and terribly executed or tone deaf at worst, the characters aside from a few feel-like shells of their former selves, the social justice messages are ham fisted and immersion breaking, the romantic drama is overdone and boring and the worst part is that this show lacks heart and passion. It feels like it was created because Paramount plus wanted to cash in on our nostalgia and the actors were in desperate need of work since they've not been in anything noteworthy since the original show's conclusion.

If you want to watch these characters again and relive the joy of your childhood, just rewatch the original show on Netflix or Paramount plus, you'd have a much better time than with this lackluster parody.

Its alright
babymanperson20 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Its ok its about Carly after she is all grown up. Carly has a new roomate and Freddie has a step daughter and still lives with his mom. Spencer is rich now and his sculptures are a sucess. Its basically the same show but slightly more mature and slighlty less silly. Expect to see a little bit less Random Dancing. The humor is a bit more dead pan. The way the internet is potrayed is updated for 2021. The original was timeless in a way but they always uploaded stuff to their website. People don't really have their own websites anymore. As we know mature= not silly now if you excuse me I'll be watching American Dad. The show with the disguise wearing alien and an olymipic skier in a goldfishes body. Nothing silly about that. I don't mind that its slighly less silly I'm just joking a bit.

Jerry Trainor's shoulders must hurt
crazyk-6026116 July 2021
This reboot is not nearly as bad as others I have seen. I love all the adult humor they have added, as well as a more diverse cast. The theme song is still good and I don't think I could ever get tired of it.

The cast does a fairly solid job around the board, but the stand out is still Spencer. He is wacky and horny as ever, and this show is worth watching just to see his antics in 2021.

I really hope they continue the series and explore new horizons for these characters not held back by creepy executives with feet fetishes!
