HOLY HECK! Nerdy Prudes Must Slay!
elitricky15 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
/SPOILERS INCOMING FOR NPMD/ So, StarKid released their new musical Nerdy Prudes Must Die on Friday/Saturday (Im Australian for reference). AND IT WAS ICON STATUS. All the songs are eerily catchy and beautifully composed, with a Heathers meets Nightmare on Elm St feel with that indie feel SK is known for. Standouts in the cast were Jon Matteson as Richie/Wiggly (I loved the weeb choice in the script making Richie a unique character when in the trio of nerds) His death scene during the titular song Nerdy Prudes Must Die was done so well, using Max Jagerman's presence and ferocity to command the screen. Will Branner is the absolute MVP of this cast, playing the bully Max Jagerman perfectly. Branner plays to his strengths (fun fact he's the cover for Biff in the OBC of BTTF!!) he commands the stage and is captivating in his performance. Another standout is Angela Giarratana as Grace Chasitity, she was incredibly funny and strong in the acting, dancing and singing components while also hitting the comedic timing perfectly, she was a commanding ingenue/supporting lead character. When I first saw Lauren Lopez's primary track in this show (Beth), I thought "They cast her as a dude AGAIN?!" but it was beautiful subversion! I was incredibly impressed by the talents of the cast and the band. Special shout out to the costume designer, June Saito, the vibrancy and uniqueness of each design was out of this world. 10/10 Would recommend!

OMG WHAT A SHOW

As someone who has only seen clips of the rest of the Starkid shows this was the best piece of theatre i've seen in ages! The energy, comedy, and VOCALS where just top tier.

Grace/Angela and Max/Will were just unbelievably hilarious. I cant wait to sit and watch every other show because i feel like ive stepped into the weirdest cinematic universe out there, and i loved every second of it.

This was like Rocky Horror meets Glee meets a nightmare on elm street and every song, scene, and piece of dialogue just made the whole thing better and better.

Truly couldnt pick out a moment i didnt like.

Fantastic addition to the Hatchetfield Universe
eric_walker27 October 2023
StarKid started strong in 2009 with A Very Potter Musical and has remained consistently great for 15 years while getting even more polished.

This show stands on its own and is constantly enjoyable, but the more of StarKid's prior Hatchetfield content you've watched, the better this show is. There are running gags, recurring characters, in-jokes, and an entire lore surrounding all the weird stuff that happens in Hatchetfield.

And all their stuff is freely available on their YT channel.

If you are considering checking out this movie, you might want to consider watching The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals first.
