This three-reel drama seems to have for its object a true-to-life portrayal of New York's underworld and as such, with one or two slight inaccuracies, it will pass muster; but there is no drama inherent in mere descriptions of the comings and goings, the fortunes and misfortunes of crooks and their sweethearts. Something seems to be lacking in this picture, otherwise of exceptional merit. Perhaps it is the absence of a genuine struggle between the good and the bad. - The Moving Picture World, December 6, 1913
