Sex & Nudity

  • A naked man was being checked that if any zombie has bite him, no private parts were shown.
  • Young ladies are seen in various states of undress: pulling on long stockings, tightening each other's corsets, and sheathing knives in their upper-thigh holsters in a way that exposes their thighs, with only a short lacy undergarment covering their genitals.
  • Nudity is depicted in art and statues, but it's always in the background and could easily be missed.
  • Elizabeth and her sisters perform martial arts in their low-cut dresses. As the gentlemen watch, there are sexual undertones as they comment on their performance and technique.
  • A couple passionately kiss each other for a few seconds.
  • A man and a woman tear each others' clothes [see Violence & Gore].
  • Women wear low-cut dresses typical of the time period throughout, frequently displaying cleavage. The main character, Elizabeth, in particular, heaves her bosom prominently on occasion. In one scene, her mother actually encourages her to stick her chest out further in order to put her chest even more on display for the gentlemen who are present.

Violence & Gore

  • The film contains frequent depictions of action violence involving zombies throughout the film, where the main characters can be seen fighting, with brief shots of the zombies being shot or slashed at.
  • Some of the stronger scenes include one of a woman whose head gets shot off; one of a woman slashing off a man's hand with the bloody stump visible; a scene where a man stabs another man in the chest with a sword where the blade of the sword can be seen protruding from the victim's back; etc.
  • While these scenes are usually accompanied by details such as severed limbs or heads and some bloodletting, they are brief and the acts are usually implied, thereby mitigating the impact of the violence.
  • There is a large-scale battle scene where soldiers fend off attacking zombies. One of them swings and hits zombies with a large club.
  • Several zombies' heads explode with minimal bloodletting throughout the film.
  • The zombies in this film have decomposing flesh and a rather grotesque appearance that reveals teeth, bones, and muscle. One zombie in particular has a chunk of her nose missing and mucus/pus pours out of it.
  • The film is very violent for a PG-13 film, including brief shots of blood and gore.

Profanity

  • 1 muttered use of "prick" and 1 use of "bastard"

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main protagonists are seen drinking alcohol [wine] often. One of them is depicted drunk.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Two men and two women fight off zombies with bombs, swords, and an axe towards the finale. There is minimal gore and some bloodletting as they eliminate them all.
  • Other milder depictions of violence include, but are not limited to, a man killing a zombie with a piece of broken glass and then proceeding to cut its head off with a knife before stomping on its decapitated head, with its entirety being depicted from the blurred perspective of the zombie; A group of women fending off a horde of zombies with knives, swords, and blunt objects with minimal violence in the form of slashing; a woman's gun exploding in her own hand before she begins to fight a zombie and kill it by stomping on its head; a zombified woman with an undead baby; a man getting knocked unconscious after falling down a series of stairs; a man slashing and killing zombies in a dimly-lit room; a brief depiction of a woman with a missing eye, who later wears an eye patch; a man and a woman fighting in a room with their hands, a knife, and a fire poker where their clothes tear eventually (played comically); a woman fighting a large man (she gets choked violently as she slashes at his face with her nails before breaking his arm, then kicking him, where a piece of the ceiling above them falls on him); a scene depicting dead soldiers with holes in their heads and people discussing how their brains have been removed; etc.
  • Zombies feast on a lot of brain matter in one scene, but it is brief and not detailed.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One intense scene where a woman is believed to be bitten by a zombie and a man prepares to kill her. He doesn't.
  • One emotional scene in which a main character is believed to be dead and another character weeps over his body.
