Julia mentions in her monologue that there were "originally five Hussars," but we see only one. A total of five tin soldiers were ordered from a craftsman in St Petersburg, Russia, however only one made it into the final cut of the film. The other four will be featured in small, subtle ways in future Sage and Pitts Films.
Film was shot in two days, all in and around Long Beach, California. Outside scenes were shot guerrilla-style.
In the scene where a collectibles shop owner, played by Sokun Lee Thach, shows Arno a toy soldier which she believes to be the one he is looking for, the second soldier is improvised. Sokun thought it would add an extra comedic beat to bring out a second soldier, and was told by the director that "we'll put it in if you can find us a second soldier," after which she searched high and low around the collectibles shop to find one.
