Bad moon rising

I enjoyed this episode immensely.

A corpse found with the throat ripped out, in best Gothic horror style, followed by more of the same, and a witness whose drunken report suggests that the killer is both a man and a Wolf. It doesn't take Crabtree long to say that they are dealing with a werewolf.

Murdoch is not so quick to rush to judgment. Besides, he is preoccupied. The full moon that oversaw the killing is also shining down on the troubled love life of Detective Murdoch. As the story unfolds, one of the women in his life gives him an ultimatum, while the other seems to be seeking the friendship of a different gentleman.

A native American tracker helps chase down the killer, but Murdoch is left to sort out matters of the heart for himself.

Surprisingly, Inspector Brackenreid seems to have a soft spot for the native Americans, certainly when compared to the things he says about the French, Jews, Papists and so on. When he acknowledges that there are no prospects for him within the Police, he does so with a wistful "we can't change the world," which is, of course, the first step along the journey to doing just that.
