VIEWS ON FILM review of Obsessed with the Babysitter
burlesonjesse517 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"You're practically inviting creeps to barge in". No kidding. The creep in Obsessed with the Babysitter (my latest review) is really something else. He's voyeuristic and well, sadistic. He looks like a simp but don't let that fool you, he fights like Van Damme. The creep-o I'm talking about is Adrian Cartwright and he is played by Canadian Simon Haycock. Haycock looks a lot like Cary Elwes did in the 1990s (again, creep-o alert).

Anyway, Obsessed with the Babysitter is just what it says it is (rich man preys on his hired babysitter who is a Step Up-type dancer). However, the way the film goes about itself you'd think it could've benefited from a more sophisticated title. "Obsessed" with its sterile look and evil eye elegance, takes itself real seriously. It's still trashy though and still a bit camp. The Lifetime Movie Network wouldn't want it any other way.

Now is "Obsessed" better than most Lifetime endeavors? Somewhat. Does it belong in the upper echelon of the Lifetime canon? Uh no. There's a bit of logic missing here with some of the characters. For instance, how are two of the main ones able to fall from a 2 story house without breaking any bones or sustaining any type of injury? And why is the boyfriend of the babysitter persona not an accomplished dancer himself? I mean he's just as good if not better than her. Finally, how does the babysitter (Elaine played by Kristen Vaganos) not know that the antagonist has installed spying cameras in her apartment? I mean you could see the darn things from a mile away (pure bullocks).

Bottom line: Obsessed with the Babysitter has a plot that unfolds effectively like a blanket. And the script involving psychology and child repression crackles a little more than with most Lifetime outings. Still, I'm going with a mixed review. Minus the suck-you-in factor, it's nothing to "obsess" over.

How STUPID can these stupid LMN movies GET?!
deedrala5 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
SHE WENT BACK TO THE PSYCHO KILLER'S HOUSE AFTER FINDING HER BOYFRIEND MURDERED (or so she thought) BY HIM??!

The psycho murderer lost his monogrammed cufflink next to the seemingly dead boyfriend, which Elaine immediately found upon discovering his 'body', AND YET SHE GOES STRAIGHT TO THE PSYCHO'S HOUSE AS IF NOTHING'S WRONG AND IT'S A NORMAL DAY!?!?

WHAT?!

And then, she's actually moronic enough to CONFRONT HIM WITH IT - ? ? ? ? ? - in his own house with only the two daughters in the other room and no weapons of any kind on her person.... INSTEAD of waiting until the police get to her apartment to give them the cufflink AND the DVD that proves he murdered his wife so that they will then go arrest him and separate him from the helpless step-daughters??

How DESPERATE is Lifetime?? To shamelessly milk these idiotic movies for all they're worth with this kind of blatant unrealistic absurdity?!

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME WITH THIS NONSENSE??

The ONLY two things about this garbage worth a nod of approval was the acting talent of the psycho psychiatrist (how did LMN miss out on using the typical over-the-top LMN-type title for this movie - "Psycho Psychiatrist"?) and the acting/dancing talent of the boyfriend (who, by the way, would not have survived the crowbar beating, but hey it's Lifetime so it doesn't have to be anything remotely related to actual real life on this planet).

COMPLETE AND TOTAL IDIOCY: Grade F- / 1 out of 10.

Classic Garbage, but not Classic Enough to be Good

Warning: Spoilers
This movie had the potential at gaining a shot at the "So bad it's great" genre, but they failed at doing so (it's a Lifetime movie, what can I say?). The acting was okay, but it was the script that really fell flat. Seriously? The psychiatrist in the movie, who is presumed to be extremely clever, makes the most stupidest decisions in this movie that question if he's even an actual psychiatrist. Like this man has the audacity to try and kill the main girl's boyfriend (and beat him up) WITHOUT a mask, even though there is a camera that HE PUT in her room that he didn't bother taking down, so the cops would be able to see. What an IDIOT. And he doesn't even bother to make sure the boyfriend is dead, like who does he think he is? Sorry for spoiling, but honestly, don't waste your time and watch this movie. There's much more better classic "so bad it's good" movies on Lifetime. Thanks.

If you're in to really stupid plot lines generally well-acted with an attractive lead, this is the movie for you! Cheesy but not fatally cheesy, just good old Lifetime fare. The Doc is about as creepy as it gets on Lifetime, and that's really really creepy.

Dance to Noir

Some of the psychiatrical mumbo-jumbo in the movie hurled around by the villain may confuse the freak out of the simple people LOL but the new line of descent into madness & almost a big pile of dead bodies we love so much in Lifetime TV movies is definitely there keeping you entertained spiced up with sexy teenage dance moves - the watching is a pleasant cocktail of mixing hot and cold showers.
