This episode was a nod to The Hidden Fortress (1958) which gave much inspiration to George Lucas to write Star Wars (1977)
Takes place in "Legends" continuity, not bound to any of the existing Star Wars films or TV series.
Akakiri means "red haze" in Japanese.
At the start of the story, Tsubaki makes a crash landing in a B-Wing starfighter, a vehicle normally associated with the Rebellion rather than the Jedi.
Tsubaki is named after Sanjûrô Tsubaki, Toshirô Mifune's character in Sanjuro (1962). Princess Misa is named after Misa Uehara, who played Princess Yuki in The Hidden Fortress (1958). Senshuu is modeled after Tahei, the peasant from The Hidden Fortress who inspired C-3PO, and Kamahachi is a bled of Matashichi, the peasant from the same film who inspired R2-D2, as well as by the character of Gasim from Lawrence of Arabia (1962).
