Schoolboy Noah Halsey enthusiastically sends his gay mate pictures of the Kenyan national park safari his stepmother Lauren finally got his doting but workaholic and domineering father Jack to book. His rebellious brat sister adds to the tension deliberately, also by bringing along her freeloader 'hippie' boyfriend Billy Mason, the very inverse of an ideal son in law. Lauren now finds out Jack risks loosing his fat oil company executive job, being suspended 'routinely' over a leaking pipeline. Short on cash, he didn't book the actual excursion, decides against paying for a guide and just drives a rental jeep without any backup. Coming too close to a mother rhino, it attacks and smashes the jeep, leaving them stranded, diabetic mother wounded and her medicine stash broken as well as the water bottles. After pointless waiting, the boys decide to try getting cellphone coverage up a hill, but while Noah sees a settlement they may be able to reach on foot, Billy is attacked by a leopard, who drags him into a tree as food stash. Billy reports him dead and sets the family on the way, unaware Billy actually survived, escapes and is found by another safari party. Alas that's in league with poachers, who realize the family is likely to report them, so must be neutralized.
