5 stars because of science fiction
Kutalpm31 December 2021
I never saw any scifi from turkey. For their courageous attempt I'll give them 5 stars.

However they violated every rule of making a sci-fi tv show. Making a scifi is very difficult. If there is not enough budget, even a tv show like Boba Fett will struggle.

Rules: 1. Your budget decides how far to the future you should go.

2. People have to have immersed in your world. True for every movie. That's why, if something looks animated don't put it in the film.

3. Limit the number shots with cgi but let them be awesome.

4. hire some scifi nerds & engineers. Everything from the future should make sense. Suits with cables in a fight? Big guns in a close combat? If you can't do it, just use normal gadgets. People will assume it's not developed yet.

5. Dont forget: to hook up people, build your story around someone. Love/vengence like in Braveheart. World war topics are secondary; don't focus on them; people don't care.

For this show: 6. Make dialogs so that everyone can understand and care. Most of the time I've no clue what they are talking about or they are giving some advice like a parent. Show your teachings through action and not words.

7. Focus. You spent your budget showing a battle that no one cared about it. You're trying to use complex sentence structure in language that you just learned. Ground your ideas.

Assumption (could be completely wrong): There making a movie like a philosopher. They have ideals. They write a story about it and putting some action in it, thinking people will care and feel emotions.

If you're making a movie , the order should be the opposite. First you have to think how to emotionally move people. What actions create this emotion? Can I create an interesting story around it and finally can I put my ideals in it.

Don't give up.

I hope the series will be better.
mustafaozalangs1 February 2022
We had never seen action and sci-fi genre productions in Turkey before. The actors could have been chosen better. The script could have been written much better. And of course there are some logic errors. But considering this is a first, that's nice. I hope it will be a very good production with a little more support..

Not Good But It Gives Hope, And That's The Only Thing Matters.
abinizjoe12 July 2022
It's obvious that Börü 2039 made professionally, but mentally it's amateur. Of course this fact comes with pros and cons.

First of all, director is giving his best...Actually, "best" isn't the correct word. More like he is giving all of his life experience.

Because of this watching Börü 2039 is extremely intense. You are always in a dialogue with the director between the lines. In one scene he says "Read that book, you will see it's benefits" and on another "Do you see how she talks? A president should be like that.". In short, it's not an entertainment product (And this is a big problem.).

This "dialogue intensity" continues for 1 hour.

You will use pause button a lot.

/////

This mentality is obviously wrong for filmmaking, but ironically it's also exactly what Turkish industry needs. Almost all the dramas using a certain formula in Turkey. Most of the times I'm able to tell scenario just looking by a short scene. They are reminding me mainstream AAA video games, looking big and fancy, but empty inside.

Börü 2039 is vice versa. It's %100 a text-based game with good story.

It needs a better teaser, catchy soundtracks and more screentime to explain what is going on... I'm saying Börü 2039 is strong at the core; if you spend your time for it, it's rewarding you. You begin to see real life gunfight tactics, Asimov books and Dune references (director says "begin from the classics, Turkish youth!"), notrino particles to explain time machines etc.

Lastly: Some scenes are superb, some scenes are not. Because the staff is just trying to do their best, there is no standard. You can see this as a plus ("Amateur spirit, boy!") or a minus (Not professional, dude.") , it's up to you.

A suggestion: Find a Turkish sci-fi nerd, watch this with the nerd or ask him questions after watching alone. Probably he will tell interesting facts.

7/10

You might want to follow Alper Çaglar. He is the first Turkish director trying to do a sci-fi. Imagine what we'll be watching 10 years from now if the world's second largest TV country learns to do sci-fi. (;

A little worse than I expected. Let me explain why.
Beyyle29 December 2021
Cheesy special effects welcome you in the first minutes. Thus, it creates a prejudice from the very beginning. But then some of the special effects look confusingly mature. In one of his videos, he talked about a vfx company that he would work with on this project, which had worked on some of the biggest projects in the business. At first i thought, they probably said, "Let the Goodbye Kansas make the difficult vfx effects, we can handle the easy ones here." because some effects stands out. But it seems like they realized that they bite off more than they can chew once they started it. I didn't see the name Goodbye Kansas in the closing credits btw. So I'm confused.

I have been following Alper Çaglar's projects for years. Dag 2 was a 7/10, then he had lowered my expectations with the Börü series 6/10 and Börü movie 4/10.

In 2039, you will notice the "inspirations" from some very famous movies. Maybe it would be more accurate to say it was more than inspirations. He dipped Hollywood's favorite recipes in a little Turkish sauce. But he can't quite do that either. It seems that just making the names in Turkish and shooting the series in Istanbul wasn't enough. Especially he can't handle the dialogues. I even suspect that he wrote the dialogues in English and translated them into Turkish. Because you constantly hear sentences that a Turk will set up different but you are used to hearing in American movies. Dubbing artists try to convey the difference in English language with these strange sentence structures. It's like '' Sonun geldi lanet olasi! '' . But the people in this series are Turkish and their language is Turkish... I don't know if Alper Çaglar is trying to create a unique language and a cinematic universe of his own where Turks speak like an American movie's Turkish dubbing.

Why would you film the same scene where Nick Fury is attacked in Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Why try to replicate a recipe made by the Americans without adding anything different to it? Americans are already doing the best at this stuff. So If I want to watch something like this, I'll go and watch them. At least I wouldn't have watched a cheap replica.

"Now the whole world knows that we have a very secret organization." Uh! Oh! What are we going to do now? The world found out we got a Turkish Avengers and a low poly fake Iron Man.

Jarvis?! Heh! Lame... We have our Kam. His voice is better too (lol it's gruesome).

Those who make science fiction films in Turkey usually add parody and comedy to it. I think it's because they know that if they make a movie that takes itself seriously, they won't be able to achieve it and they will be a laughing stock.

Now we have Börü 2039. It takes itself seriously. But not good enough for that. Even Twitch streamers don't get a white frame when using a green screen, you are making a series... I will take an optimistic view and say Alper Çaglar is really a nationalist and he is not just someone who exploits the feelings of nationalist people. Even after this raw "thing". I will believe he just wants to do something nice, but he can't. But my credit ran out. I can't take more than that. My expectations about the Göktürk project also sank to the bottom.

It's just bad and I am disappointed. I'd like to praise you, but it turned out worse than I expected.

At least, a decent vfx would make this series 5/10. Okay, the script is a hollywood cliché. But what happens if you skip the vfx while getting the cliché script? Börü 2039.

Excellent Show!!
cagdas-21-31507313 February 2022
This show is so good on so many levels. The thing I like the most is the well-established connection with the former BORU team. Visual Effects are also very very impressive. Looking forward to every episode to follow!!

Bad
omerkskn29 December 2021
According to Turkish conditions, it is one of the productions that we can call mediocre in order to keep it well and globally. It is not clear what happens in the first episode, what is the story, who is doing what and why. It was taken to show how we made an effect. There is no pattern acting in the actors, it was a forced series.

Amazing Sci-Fi series
f-m-ozcelik25 April 2022
You have to understand that when the world is watching American productions they usually have unlimited resources, that doesn't imply to Turkish productions so people nagging about this series please keep this in mind. It is an amazing production! Definitely worth your time!

Awful Acting
PathofSigun7 January 2022
At this review I will not give a rating for anything else except acting. Reason is Börü 2039 trying something never done before in Turkey. CGI and VFX could be low against what we used to watch (Hollywood generally) and in my opinion its a pretty acceptable situation in this case. I do not even care about costume design since its part of the many things tried first time. However, acting was the only part that Börü 2039 should accomplish and clearly poor choosing of actors like pretty face instagram models couldn't help at all.

Very good

You should definitely give it a chance and watch it. This is the first time such things are being tried in Turkey, but despite this, it has been very successful.

"Calm down, trust the plan."

If you can't do it, don't do it Warning: Spoilers
Apart from bad sci-fi tricks, even the dialogs and the actors are cheesy. I struggled a lot to watch it. Meaningless dialogs, doing very stupid things in the middle of a combat, awful acting, todays vehicles, some odd cables in suits in every scene. It is a complete fail. I think tried to get some influence from sci-fi films (such as Netflix original, Spectral) but failed epicly.

Well, frankly I was expecting good stuff but it is C (-) grade sci-fi stuff.

Sorry guys....

beautiful..
emre-vural30 December 2021
The visual effects are owned by Dreamlife Studios. It is a completely Turkish Company. Despite the fact that there is a lack of time to develop the series before the New Year, they have done good work. I wish you continued success in Dreamlife...

The only missing dubbing and dialogs I saw in the series were. I think that in other seasons these shortcomings will be corrected.

Just BAD
sametpulat6 January 2022
This is just a waste of time. If you love the genre, skip this for you will hate sci-fi for a while after seeing this. People are giving this high scores because it was made in Turkey. Well it's not such a qualified criteria, is it?

Great action-sci fi combo
tcguvenn5 April 2022
If you are looking for an action packed sci-fi involving AI, this is the right show.

Most of the criticisms on this page is due to the budgetary constraints. The actual show is amazing.

Acting is also great, most actors are young and talented.

Good Try, I hope Second Season Will Be Much Better
nostaljikkaptan25 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First 3 episodes are bad. Just bad. In the first chapters, everything seemed very incomplete. The story was incomprehensible. It was full of logic errors. The acting was terrible in the first episodes.

But after the 4th episode the whole story fits in his way. It is much understandable after that. After the 4th episode, the story pulled me in and I watched it easily.

I hope next season comes. And I hope they do the first episode of Season 1 again. I almost left the show in that episode.

There is something about the story of the show that I just don't understand. If Tomris is all kinds of bad, why would his future version say join me? That's the pointless part of the story.

Long awaited and so good
bonjourbookstore6 January 2023
Visual effects added a new dimension - definitely brought WOLF into the sci fi age. Robotic characters never a fan but accept them as a necessary evil for 2039. Thrilled to see Kemal again -real flesh and blood which robots cannot portray.

I see other comments about US visual affects vs Boru 2039.

When I watch a drama series, I am not there for the special effects they are just the takeaway "do u want fries with that?" The real emotion that has you holding your breath, on the edge of your seat and the connection btw the actors and the audience is the Holy Grail.

Boru 2039 continues Wolf values of loyalty, honor, strength and respect. Well done!

great work

I love it! You may recognize sometimes visual effects are not perfect but this series have a brilliant and so attractive scenario Acting is very good The script of the television series is so good that I even watch it, if it is shot in black and white in low quality We've been watching for years American movies The science fiction stories in Hollywood movies we've watched for years are so ridiculous compared to this series The utopian Istanbul created in the movie is really impressive It's a movie that can give you an idea of what's really going to happen after the movie Back to the Future. I loveee this project.
