In 1993, in New Zealand, a simple man called David Dougherty is accused by his eleven year-old next door neighbor Kate Coburn of abduction and rape. Despite the evidences, he is found guilty and imprisoned. Three years later, the snoopy and rookie Sunday Star Times journalist Donna Chisholm meets Dougherty's lawyer Murray Gibson in a party and convinces him to interview his client. Then she teams up with the scientist Arie Geursen that provides evidences for her. Soon Donna is convinced of David's innocence and obsessed by his case. Donna, Murray and Arie do not spare efforts to get a second trial for David and after three and a half years, he is free at last.
