Captain Eberhart is wearing the Shoulder strap of a SS-Hauptsturmführer (Captain) but the collar badge is that of a SS-Untersturmführer (Lieutenant)
In the opening credit scenes, a Los Angeles Times headline reading, "Germany Invades Poland." The paper's date has been changed to read, "Thursday, September 1, 1938." The Invasion of Poland began in the early morning hours of Friday, September 1, 1939. The LA Times front page used was from 25th December 1942, the day after French Admiral Darlan was assassinated in Algiers.
The SS officer Colonel Von Weschler's uniform is the Pre-1939 black SS uniform. These were discontinued at the start of the war in 1939. SS uniforms were changed to the same colors used by the Wehrmacht. The only black uniforms after 1939 were worn by Waffen SS and Wehrmacht Panzer (tank) crews. Throughout the movie he is addressed as a colonel, but his rank collar tab and shoulder boards are that of a Sturmführer (second lieutenant). Also, he is wearing the Iron Cross medal on the left side of his uniform, but it should be on the right side.
