Sex & Nudity

  • A couple sneak into a truck and start to joyfully undress each other. They are interrupted by an earthquake, and are fully dressed then.
  • Two naked men are seen squatting and mourning, we only see their butts.
  • As a door is opened, a man finds his daughter in the room with another man, both of whom are sweaty and fully-dressed. It is implied that they may have had sex, although the matter isn't brought up. It is later found however, the daughter is pregnant with the same man's child.

Violence & Gore

  • The earthquake scenes in the first third of the film are very graphic and depict people being killed in various ways as they get crushed underneath buildings.
  • There are two post-earthquake sequences, both of which depict a vast number of dead bodies and wounded people. A lot of blood in these scenes.
  • A woman whose child's leg is trapped under a slab demands that the leg be sawed off. We see medics take positions. Later we see the child carried on a stretcher, her amputated leg bloody.
  • Two instances of slapping, for emotional reasons.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • We see casual drinking amongst adults at various points in the film. A character profusely apologises for having drunk too much, although he isn't really that drunk.
  • A man is seen smoking.
  • An old man has his granddaughter lift a cup of wine to a photograph of her dead grandmother. As a way of paying respect to her.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is an extremely intense film about the far-reaching consequences of earthquakes. The earthquake and aftermatch sequences are especially difficult to watch and may be distressing for those who have experienced the same.
  • A woman is required to make a difficult choice between saving either her son or her daughter, both of whom are twins. She is clearly emotionally crushed, and her guilt is visible throughout the film.
  • A good deal of the film is about disturbance left behind by loss and death in family relationships, and can be a very depressing film for some.
