Best Dutch movie in years
daanenjan24 September 2009
The local theater was almost empty while showing the film. Two strangers left the theater after 20 minutes so I had the privilege to consume the 'Last Conversation' on my own. It's one of these movies you like, or you don't.

Director Noud Heerkens shoot the movie with 25 camera's on a Jaguar in which Anna (Johanna ter Steege) is filmed during a one side, one take phone conversation with the married lover who has just jilted her.

The camera-work and editing is excellent. Showing abstract and sometimes hallucinating images of asphalt moving beneath the car and the roadside reflected in it's windows and paint. where the focus is on Anna's face and particularly her red painted mouth, During her conversation, it takes the whole length of the movie, you can see the struggle it takes to hold up the image of the self one has, to protect vulnerability.

I enjoyed this movie from A to Z, the acting (Johanna Ter Steege as Anna) is lifelike realistic. It's the best I've seen for years. If you are 'in' for a different way of storytelling go and see the 'Lat Conversation".
