GIVING ROBBIE THE ONCE OVER... AND OVER!
tcchelsey12 January 2024
Legendary tv director and producer Fred De Cordova took over as director for MY THREE SONS, and turned out some memorable episodes, such as this. At the time, Fred was also producing the TONIGHT SHOW, starring Johnny Carson, which moved to Burbank from New York City.

This is the famous episode all of us kids watched, and felt soooo sorry for Robbie. Katie introduces him to her family, particularly her stern, by the book aunt (well played by Katherine Givney). It's an awkard moment to say the least, but he has no choice! Grin and bear it all. Popular character actress Joan Tompkins plays Katie's mom, Lorraine.

I agree with the last reviewer, people don't change and the family reactions are realistic. Fortunately, with a great brother like Robbie, you know it's all going to work out, and you have admit, he and Katie DO make a handsome couple , about to be married! This was a big ratings grab on tv at the time, part comedy and soap opera.

Katherine Givney was a veteran actress, having appeared in some classic films, such as THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN. She guested in four episodes, also appearing several times on PERRY MASON.

Dedicated to all of us fans from the very, very beginning.

SEASON 8 EPISODE 3.

Much Better than the Previous Episode

This is more like it. Reminds me of the way I met my wife. We were considerably older, but we got engaged after about two weeks, and in less than two years we'll be celebrating our 20th anniversary. And the family and friend reactions are very realistic. Much better.
