Nifty retrospective documentary

Warning: Spoilers
This enjoyable and informative 76 minute retrospective documentary covers a lot of ground on the making of the 1978 Italian war action cult classic "The Inglorious Bastards." Star Fred Williamson notes that in Europe he's considered an action star instead of a black actor and reveals that director Enzo Castellari gave him complete freedom to come up with all kinds of different reactions to various scenes. Among the other topics discussed are working with actor Ian Bannen, who had to work the day after he arrived in Italy (Castellari helped Bannen out by putting his dialogue on paper scattered throughout the location so he wouldn't have trouble remembering his lines), Williamson and fellow thespian Bo Svenson did their own stunts, the dialogue was completely looped in post-production (Svenson and Williamson both admit that they had problems with this particular aspect of Italian filmmaking), the use of matte shots and miniatures to make the movie look bigger than it really was, fake guns had to be made to replace real ones that were confiscated by the Italian government early in the shoot, special effects expert Gino De Rossi got a little carried away with all the explosions he did for the picture, and how most of the cassette tape that the soundtrack was recorded on wound up being accidentally erased. Recommended viewing for fans of the film.
