Canzonissima's tenth and final contestant was singer Ron Davis. Between the second and the third broadcast, he got into a car accident and ended up in a coma due to a double skull fracture. He would never wake up from this: the young artist died on January 22, 1971, at the age of barely 24. Davis was not replaced by another artist, so only nine candidates competed against each other from the third heat.
