The recording engineer/mixer, Malcolm Addey, spent many years working as a recording engineer at Abbey Road Studios, London, where the artists he recorded included Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Helen Shapiro, Adam Faith and John Barry. He also engineered all sessions with American artists recording at Abbey Road. Malcolm moved to New York City in the late sixties to work as a freelance engineer. Bruce Lundvall, President of Elektra Records, recommended Malcolm for this project. He brought his own microphones and 16 or 24 track mixing board to the various Manhattan locations for "Music in Monk Time".
Co-writers Jon Hendricks and Stephen Rice created a text for all the narrative sections of the movie. Then Jon put the text to rhyme for each narration.
Jon Hendricks was the only vocalist to ever record with Thelonious Monk. He wrote the lyrics for and performed "In Walked Bud" on the Underground Monk album in 1968. This was a spontaneous occurrence, as Jon was at Columbia Records 30th Street studios on another project and Monk called him in. He wrote the lyrics on the spot and then recorded the vocals.
The Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter was a member of the Rothschild family and Thelonious Monk's friend and patron. She often brought Monk to his New York engagements in her Rolls Royce. She declined to be in the documentary, however she provided the producers with a shoe box full of never seen photos. These photos were carefully filmed and then returned to the Baroness.
